When I set the appointment up for my dog, April, the receptionist, told me what they would probably be doing and what the cost would be. One item besides the fee for the visit and meds was a fecal test for worms. I specifically told her I did not want that because he was up on his worm medication which I have kept up with since he was tested and found to have them during a previous visit and I know that's not what is going on now. I know my dog. I know he finds things to eat, gets sick, and this was what was going on. I just wanted the medicine with a few extra pills so that I can give him those when he needs them, and I've done that in the past with them.
She said, okay and I set the appointment for 4:00.
They were a half an hour late getting to me. A girl took my dog to the back and said, "I'm going to get his weight and temperature wait in here". She didn't mention the fecal test.
A while later, the vet came in the room. I told him my dog was starting to do better after setting the appointment, but I still wanted the medicine for the future like they had given me before. After a few minutes of talking, he said, "Let me go get your pills".
I went out to the receptionist to pay and they had added the fecal test which I had specifically told them I did not want done. When I told her that very fact, (I think the woman's name was Sandy) she started talking over me with a condescending attitude and continued reading the items on the bill. She also told me that they test for worms anytime a dog has diarrhea. I never said he he had that, he was VOMITING and had used the bathroom a couple of times with solid stool over a 12 hour period. THEY kept using the word diarrhea. Then she had Sumner (the vet) to come to the front and I told him that I specifically said I didn't want the fecal test done. April spoke up and said she didn't put it in the chart.
Sumner interrupted her and started talking about how he's a vet and I'm not. And I didn't know if my dog had worms. Did I go somewhere else to have him checked? Sarcastically justifying adding the extra charge to my bill. If he felt it was so necessary, he should have consulted me first instead of charging me more money for unwanted services against my instructions. I might not be a vet, but I have had several dogs and know them, their habits and problems by the way they act and had a lot of experiences with this one eating things that made him sick.
Sumner then told me I could give the pills back and leave without paying anything and walked away. I'm not going to do that to anybody. I'm not that kind of person.
Weird thing is, Sumner has treated several of my dogs over the years and even euthanized one of my older beagles when her time came. He always seemed liked a nice, soft spoken, ethical guy. I was more than surprised by the Jekyll and Hyde personalities that he switched to today.
I went ahead and paid them in full, but that was completely dishonest, greedy, and a sad, pathetic way for them to treat a long time customer.
Needless to say, I am going to find a new vet.
To repeat what some others reviewers have stated, if you have no choice but to use this place, make sure you get EVERYTHING discussed IN DETAIL before anyone even thinks about taking your dog to the back because they will do whatever they want, even things you tell them specifically not to do, just to pad the bill.
A shame they've become greedy like that for a one-time visit and then lose all of my future business. It was either intentional or an inter-office breakdown in communication. Either way, they should have corrected it and been decent towards the customer.
Sad place they've turned it into.

Everyone there is really nice but they’re is one older gentleman that is really inconsiderate and a bit rude. I have a puppy with some behavioral issues (from his past) and the vet was really inconsiderate of his situation and made side remarks about what he’d do to him if it was his dog. Not in a good way, if you know what i mean. Everyone else there though is really great and nice to my dog. Will continue to come here but ask for a different vet.

The best of any clinic I've had the pleasure to comment on. Dr Hutchins I've known for year's he saved a couple of my horses when I had Smith Mountain Lake Arabians and I had my cat Wren operated on by Dr Sumner and I couldn't be happier, he did an excellent hip relocation on her and she's doing great. He's a great person too, took the time to explain what he did and how I was to do with her when I got her home. I highly recommend Pell Animal.

They started out well. Then, when my blue heeler needed surgery, to remove an object from the GI track, they sent him home without pain meds.

When our 11 year old fur baby Lemmy hurt his neck and became paralyzed this office went above and beyond to help me and my fur baby. They did all they could to help him and when it was time to say goodbye they were right by my side. Words cannot express how much they mean to me for the love and support they showed Lemmy and myself during his event. Thank you so much. We will forever be grateful!!!

Love love love this vet!! My husband and I travel a ton so we've seen a few different vets along the way. This 1 by far is my favorite!! Not only is the price on point but they don't charge you for anything extra like others have done. Both my dogs have had surgery here and it cost a fraction of what my vet back gome wanted to charge me. I highly recommend this place!! Staff is so friendly and they really make you feel like they love and care about your pets. I will forever be grateful for this place

Ugh! I could never recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone. In August, 2023 I made an appointment to have my dog's teeth cleaned at Pell Animal Clinic for Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 8am. I had just moved to Virginia, and did a survey of veterinary clinics, and pick this one. The lady I spoke with indicated that the doctor wanted to see the dog prior to the teeth cleaning. I explained to her that I was driving a long distance, and his teeth had been cleaned every six months by a veterinarian, and most recently on July 12, 2023. She booked an appointment for me for 8 o'clock on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 for the exam and the teeth cleaning. To that end, on August 18, 2023, I emailed or texted all of the dogs vaccination records to the Pell Clinic. On the afternoon of December 26, I called to re-confirm the appointment, and was told they had no record of me. I was annoyed because I had made the appointment four months prior. I asked to speak to the practice manager and was told that she was out of the office, but they would contact her and she would call me shortly. I never heard from the clinic again. I should've looked at the yelp reviews prior to booking my appointment because had I done that, I never would've considered trusting this clinic to care for my dog. If you look at the other reviews, it's completely understandable why I was treated the way I was treated. In my opinion, you should not waste your time with this Veterinary company. If I could give them zero stars that's what they would get.
