I enjoy coming to the YMCA Express because it has such a friendly and homey atmosphere. I have been a member for over eight years. The staff are always very helpful. The instructors make the classes enjoyable

Went to join. Staff doesn't answer handicap doorbell. Not accommodating. Spoke to manager about outdated lacking handicap entrance. They say they are "sorry" after the incident. They truly are and have no plans to update. Obviously there ADA violations. Insensitive staff.

This post is coming from a concerned citizen I was made aware that this particular YMCA opens the gym it's with only one person the 2nd person does not come in until 830 this is unacceptable what about the Safety of the staff and the safety of the safety of the members who visit the gym anything could happen to them!! This is not safe at all.. Y please do better! Safety over all should come 1st .. I want to feel safe there.. this Y is in my community .. I will not renew my membership until this is resolved.. I know that I am only one person and my membership is not gonna make or break this particular Y... My Community need to be made aware

I would like to see this Y have exercise programs for older individuals and those who are not very mobile.Different times should be offered.Add a few more cooking programs although I do appreciate that other Y's are now using the kitchen.

I am a silver sneakers member. I called to get info to register. All your are supposed to do is give your membership card and then they give you a card or pass to use facilities. I called and was told that I needed to call and get an authorization number. They couldn't tell me if I call the insurance directly or the program itself. I called both and was told that there is no such this as an authorization number and to give them my membership number. I called back and told the receptionist and was told that they required the authorization number because they didn't have time to call the insurance company to get personal information and that the member is supposed to do it before coming in. I explained that both the insurance and program said they don't give one and the lady at the Y said I could come in and speak to a managing director but that they can't spend 15-30 minutes to get the information and that this is their policy. I explained that i can show my active membership on the website and she said they didn't have time to do that. She told me it wasn't the same as my membership number and they couldn't scan the barcode on my card itself. The authorization number proves my membership is active. I never even had a chance to use the facilities and would not go even if they paid me. It shouldn't be that difficult to join. I'm a member at a dozen locations and have NEVER come across anyone as unhelpful and condescending in any of the gyms I've been to. Their policy doesn't coincide with what the program or any other YMCA locations require and this lady couldn't tel me where I was supposed to call... only to call the number on the back of my card. I have a membership card and an insurance card. Both told me there is no such thing as an authorization number unless it's for a procedure or something of that sort and a gym membership absolutely does not require one. I don't even want to call the managing director at this point. What's the point when the receptionist made it clear they weren't interested in helping me join or calling the program/insurance to settle the matter. Is it my job to do it? I was told multiple times that they don't have the time to, so I won't waste any more of mine trying to be a member at a place that left a negative first impression. By the way, they do NOT have a pool so the heading in this forum is incorrect. No swimming lessons, etc.

The YMCA Express at Gainsboro is a wonderful place to workout. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is a small gym that has a wonderful atmosphere and is never too crowded. The Zumba class is great there.
