My partner and I stayed in the Lavista suite for our anniversary and were greeted with amazing hospitality. The suite was as described, and the service was very top notch and recognizable. The whole experience made my partner and I anniversary very special. There was another couple that was staying there, and they unfortunately decided to invite their whole family there to hang out after the owners had politely reminded them they were not allowed to have other guests there per regulations and stipulations set by insurance. Unfortunately, these guests that were “not even supposed to be there in the first place” ended up, violating the premises and breaking the “no smoking weed rule”. Besides those guests, I would say that my partner and I agreed that we will be coming back to stay, and we highly enjoyed our visit while we were there despite the other guests, who, apparently in their reviews did not enjoy their stay even after breaking multiple rules. Thank you Jeff and Cheryl for a memorable experience. Sorry that the other guests that stayed can’t understand protocol. I don’t believe this place deserves a bad review on the account of someone who clearly doesn’t respect basic rules.

The owners are very strict. No friends can visit you, they claim insurance doesn't cover it but then invited their personal friends over to use the pool behind the inn. The husband is constantly watching you. Made comments to us about how late we were outside loading our car. Got upset when we had a box of cupcakes on the counter in their kitchen. They do serve breakfast but only from 8-9am which for being on a vacation who wants to wake up that early. Also the room on the bottom floor had 2 fold out couches, both were dirty, full of crumbs and extremely uncomfortable.

My husband and I chose a stay at this Bed and Breakfast based on numerous glowing online reviews. It was as wonderful as the reviews we had read! Beautiful, quiet location, spotlessly clean and very comfortable accommodations. We happened to arrive on a beautiful, warm spring day, and had the benefit of spending an afternoon in the warm, relaxing pool. After a restful evening, the delicious, plentiful breakfast was a perfect start to our day. The hosts, Cheryl and Jeff, are delightful, and have thought of everything to make their guests feel right at home. We are so glad we found Shirley's and will certainly be back!

We booked a trip to Roanoke to experience Illuminights. We arrived just after check in time (3pm) and Jeff welcomed us right away. He gave us a brief tour and a great recommendation for dinner. We stayed in the Lavista Suite and it was HUGE! The decor was so interesting and we could have spent an entire day admiring it all. The cleanliness of the entire house was very appreciated. We opted for a breakfast consisting of eggs, the best bacon I’ve ever tasted, fruit with yogurt and bread of choice. Cheryl and Jeff were wonderful hosts and we would definitely recommend this hidden gem to the best of the crowds.Nearby activities: 15 minute drive to Illuminights. 15 minutes to restaurants in town.Food & drinks: Wine, bottled water, coffee, hot chocolate and light snacks are offered.Noteworthy details: The local wildlife (deer) was on property and crossing the road at night, drive carefully.

Stayed at Shirley’s B&B the weekend of November 10-12, 2023 with a girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. We had such a wonderful weekend at the B&B. The owners were so kind, and had great recommendations for us to try in the area from hiking trails to restaurants gems downtown. The house is spotless and they’ve very thoughtfully provided everything you could possibly need for a mountain getaway trip. We really enjoyed the outdoor space downstairs around the pool. Lots of seating, an electric fireplace, and a glass of wine provided by the hosts. I could really go on and on about the excellent experience we had at Shirley’s but really what you NEED to know is that the location is 10/10, the pillows on the beds are 10/10, and the breakfast each morning was 10/10. We left Sunday morning feeling rejuvenated from the fresh mountain air and with VERY full bellies. If you’re passing through Roanoke, or looking for a weekend retreat in the mountains, this is your spot.Nearby activities: Plenty of hiking trails less than 10 minutes from the B&B.Food & drinks: The breakfast at Shirley’s is wonderful. The B&B is 15 minutes from Roanoke’s downtown restaurants. The owners keep a list of recommendations handy for guests who aren’t familiar with the area.

Our experience at Shirley’s was, in a word, stellar. The lodge is beautiful, artfully appointed (automotive chic!), and perfectly suited to guests’ comfort.Breakfast is a special scrumptious treat, excellent fuel for the day’s adventure. The owners are welcoming, witty and warm — they operate together like a finely-tuned engine!
