This review is specifically for the Kroger off of Brambleton, across from Goodwill. I moved back to Roanoke a year and a half ago. This Kroger became my go-to, even though there's a slightly nicer one further down on Brambleton. I've never had any complaints about this store, but SOMETHING has happened to the seafood department, and it's not good. I'm a pescatarian, so fish is the only protein I eat. I don't know about the fresh seafood because I don't really eat lobster or crab, so this isn't directed at the guys behind the seafood counter. These guys are always nice and ready to help out. I think it has more to do with their supplier. The frozen seafood, as well as the seafood in open commercial refrigerators, is inedible, not to mention it smells like sewage. I don't know where they get their seafood from these days, but it is DISGUSTING. I had some doubts when I bought some frozen shrimp from there a month ago. I thawed it out, and it smelled up my entire kitchen. I thought maybe it was a one-off event, but no... I bought two packs of sockeye salmon last week, along with some shrimp in the open fridge that comes with the pack of cocktail sauce. All I can say is, I won't be buying any seafood from Kroger again. The salmon, just like the shrimp before, stunk up my whole refrigerator and kitchen. It is an absolutely disgusting smell, again...like sewage. Possibly worse. I'm nauseated just typing this. I am going to explore buying fish/shrimp at Fresh Market or Earth Fare. It might be pricier, but it would be better than having to throw out fish that you can't eat because it's RANCID as soon as you get it home.

Kroger is one of the largest Food Store Chains in the States. I decided to go into the closest store to my neighborhood and review it. This Kroger is located in the lower level of the Towers Shopping Center in Roanoke, Virginia. It is not as large nor modern as many others built recently, but if we consider the amount of space it has in this location with the unique and fresh grocery items it carries, we see why it is almost always full of people shopping there. For this review I will be taking into account all the times that I've shopped there as well as how I found the store today, when I went shopping there for the purpose of this review. As I arrived to Kroger on this beautiful day, I was first impressed by the great looking design of the outside entrance to the store, with the gigantic Kroger sign contrasting with the blue sky, and underneath a great variety of pumpkins for sale which tend to highlight the Holiday Season that has started. The inside of the building doesn't seem as modern as the outside, but it's mostly clean and organized, and with a pretty good selection of items, focusing more in quality and uniqueness than in quantity. For example, they carry the Häagen-Dazs Creamy Mango Ice Cream, that not even Walmart stocks it among their humongous inventory of items. Even though the store is clean and organized there are many areas that seem too packed together and little room for movement among the ailes. An area where I noticed the store is particularly strong is in the variety of quality frozen dinners it carries. There are many items not found in other larger stores that make me come here to get them. One negative point however is that many times I've been here and they have been out of stock of these items and I have not seen any manager around that I can bring this to their attention. Overall however the employees who work there are very friendly and helpful and this I admire very much. On this particular day, a Pharmacist helped me with a question I had about an over the counter medicine, and I was able to observe many other employees there present with a genuine desire to assist the customers to have a pleasant shopping experience. For example the ones around the self checkout area where I usually check-out. As a matter of fact I am aware that one of the employees in this area was reasantly promoted. Something else I noticed was the freshness of the flowers, the fruits, and the meats, but the area of the seafood looked a bit lacking. To get a 5 Star review I would recommend the management to be more visible and have an interest on what it's customers want and wish to have, and then make it a point to have the shelves stocked with these items. Today I checked out in one of the checkout counters and the employee there was so helpful and kind that he personified Kroger's values: Safety, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Honesty and Integrity. I do recommend this store, and if Management would pay attention to my recommendations, it will also continue to be one of my favorite grocery stores to shop for quality items, in a relaxed atmosphere, with wonderful customer service.

As someone who picks up 1-2 prescriptions each month (and has for the last 7-8 years), I got to know the staff at this pharmacy well when I moved to Roanoke 3-4 years ago. A few months ago, I had my first bad experience with the pharmacy. I have ADD and take controlled substances to manage it...have for literal years. I've been coming to this Kroger to pick up for years as well, and everyone has been wonderful--except for this rude, judgemental pharmacist. A few months ago, I lost my grandfather (who raised me). The sudden upset required out-of-town travel and massive amounts of unexpected energy/focus. For one month, my Dr. upped my dosage to help manage the situation. As soon as he called in the upped dosage, the pharmacist called me, rude right off the bat, and treated me like I was trying to get extra medication. Immediately accusatory and aggressive, despite the fact that I'd been coming once or twice a month for ages. It left a horrible taste in my mouth and, even after she called me back "after confirming with my doctor" everything I had just told her, I knew I didn't want to interact with her ever again. Who treats people that way?! In the following months, after expressing to my GP that I wanted to switch pharmacies, "my doctor" was out of the country. In the interim, various GPs from the office approved my monthly medications, some sending them to the new pharmacy, some accidentally sending them to Kroger. I attempted to fill my FINAL prescription with Kroger on Wednesday--or rather I sent my order in the app, assuming I'd get a notification in a few days when it was ready (as per usual). After receiving a call from a tech who saw I filled the last prescription at another pharmacy, and explaining the situation, I confirmed it would be my last refill with the pharmacy--that I'd filled another medication in August, and that this would be my last refill of this medication. Yada, yada, yada. Like ten minutes later, I get a call from the same rude pharmacist from months back. Not only does she accuse me of pharmacy shopping and saying I'm trying to refill too early, but this woman lost all touch with reality. Actually, I don't think that's true... I think she was unwilling to admit that she was wrong, so instead of doing the right thing and hearing me out (regarding an issue I'd spoken to her about months in advance: switching pharmacies, Dr. out of the office, etc.) she decided to lie. She accused me of calling over and over again, hounding her staff, saying "I need my medication in the next few hours!" I never called. Not a single time. I tried to explain I just did the app order like I always do, thinking I get a text when it was ready, and that's it. I suggested that maybe she was confusing me with someone else...? Because I literally never called... That I did speak briefly with a tech who called me, but that was legitimately all that happened. Instead of admitting her mistake, this pharmacist said SHE HEARD THE CALLS THAT I NEVER MADE. And then she called my doctor's office and sent a letter about my concerning behavior. I immediately called the GM to explain the situation and dispute the issue. Same with my Dr's office. I've been waiting for a call from the pharmacy manager for two days, because apparently they handle things separately. I waited. Nothing. Called back today. Nothing. I was not only told that my message was never passed along, but the pharmacy manager I eventually spoke with said there is basically no recourse--that Big Box pharmacies like Kroger and CVS have "so many customer interactions" that basically no one will care. I was super nice, spoke to like 4-5 different managers, and the answer was, "Sorry. Sucks for you. Don't know you know we're a major corporation?" I highly recommend avoiding this location. And filing complaints with the Board of Pharmacy if you can't.

I am done with Krogers in general and this Towers location in particular. Staffing decisions, as in lack of staff, has a had huge impact on customer experience and the morale of the few dedicated staff members they have. Krogers was recently called out, by the Wall Street Journal, as one of the chains that was profiting the most from high inflation. As in price gouging. Profits were up 35% (more thaN $700 million) in 2022. They have also specialized in putting customers to work checking out and bagging their own groceries; often with only half the check out stations that are needed (because of lack of staff.) And they have mastered nickel and dimming customers with extra charges for everthing from charging for PAPER BAGS and for cash back for for an ATM card - when used in conjunction with a purchase. Staffing . There is always a wait at the deli and meat counters for someone show up to help you. The last straw was today. I bought a half gallon of grass fed organic milk with an expiration date in August. When I got home I discovered that it had turned. This is the second time this has happened in the last month. I went back for a refund but "Customer Care" was closed for the day. I asked a woman working a check out station why - and was very rudely told that there was no one else who could cover. It was clear that she was exasperated that I had even asked .

Horrible store....poorly managed. Store is located at Towers Shopping Center, an extremely busy and prime location within the Roanoke City limits. When asked why there was only one cash register open with a line of customers wrapping around the store, the manager ranted and rudely walked away screaming. This store has management problems and until they are resolved, I will head on over to Food Lion.

This location is near my home, but I would drive miles to shop at another. Of all the times that I've stopped by for just an item or two, the choices were slim, the store was filthy and not one employee made eye contact with a customer. But they certainly chat with each other about schedules and personal stuff. The self checkout areas are disgustingly dirty. Half the time, they close many of them even if there are lines of people waiting. The only reason I stopped there was to get my favorite ice cream... Which, as of three weeks ago, they don't even carry any more. And it's their brand! I'm done with this store.

It's hard to articulate how horrible this particular Kroger is. The store is usually filthy and the staff is often less than helpful, seemingly undertrained, and usually just plain rude. Tonight, one of their employees closed the door in my face as I was entering and said "we close at 11." It was only 10:40.

Kroger new $.55/gal. Credit card promotion is complex & hard to understand especially for someone my age (73). The percentage of "old" people in Roanoke's population is higher than average. so complex is difficult for Roanokers (in my opinion anyway. My understanding of this program was that you got points for ever dollars charged on your Kroger credit card - NOT TRUE - YOU GET ONLY $5 OFF FOR EVERY $1,000 YOU SPEND (.005%- about as good as banks paying you .2% on yo4 savings account. To get the $.55 you have to redeem at least 100 points from spending $100 for in store purchases. I actually got $.45/gal. after card was set up?? Customer service at Tanglewood store set my credit card up supposely. I gave the clerk a $20 gift card for helping mLLe - BUT GUESS WHAT ACCORDING TO KROGER IT WASN'T SET UP CORRECTLY. Therefore I got -0- discount on my gas purchase. I'm not computer savey (almost 74). Neither clerk at gas station nor Ms. Brown would correct the situation. She said she would have a Kroger rep call me - NEVER HAPPENED - Several days later the store manager after I called gave me the person I should talk to at KMA. After probably an hour on the phone with Phil. Supposely my credit card was fixed, however got $.45. not $.55. I am a retired CPA, CMA, MBA. If I have a difficult time understand a promotion, what about John P. Public? Kroger needs to do a better job educating their customers!! MAKE SURE YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND KROGER'S PROMOTION BEFORE YOU SIGN UP.

The Pharmacy is awful. My doctor actually had to call three times and was so frustrated that he called me back and said he wanted me to choose ANY other pharmacy to call my prescription in to. He also told me that he would tell any patient to avoid the Towers Kroger pharmacy at all cost. The employees in the pharmacy give incorrect information rather than taking the time to actually ask someone who knows. Very disappointing for a place people depend on for important medications and information. I will use CVS instead and pay more for my medicine just for peace of mind.

It's kind of inappropriate for your site to claim you all are open then when I get to the door I'm turned away by security stating that you all were closed when it was clearly only 10:30 when I got to the door when all I needed was milk for my one year old daughter and what makes it worst is I work with in the towers complex and came to the door in my time uniform after work because it was on my walk home which I had to turn around go the opposite way to cvs which is very inconvenient when you are walking so for future reference you guys should update the times on your site because this whole ordeal has cost me and extra 30 mins of walking time after a 11 hr shift not cool at all!

As far as I'm concerned this Kroger at Towers shopping Center in Roanoke does not even deserve a one star! In the few minutes I was inside the store to get a money order I saw eight people enter the store without masks and that was just within a few minutes and did not count the ones in the store not wearing masks. The poor employees are worried about it but they tell me that they are not allowed to say anything to these people. Why? Why are these people being allowed to put Kroger employees and Kroger customers who are following protocols at risk for injury? Let's play should be shut down! Don't shop there unless you want to flirt with contracting Covid-19.

Staff is unprofessional and rude. Overheard teenage employees picking-on and making-fun of shoppers.
