Not only have i trained for 40 years, have also been a full-time barbell coach/trainer for the last 20 years. Elite is not just the BEST gym in Roanoke, it is BY FAR the best i have ever used, as a member or a coach. We have great equipment, including specialty bars for powerlifters, specialty equipment for bodybuilding/fitness/bikini/fitness enthusiasts and competitors like a Glute Drive , V-Squat, True Squat, unilateral Leg extension, unilateral leg curl, Glute-Ham, Reverse Hyper and other pieces you won't find in a commercial gym. Elite is also TRUE 24-7.....it never closes. Want to train when you get off your second shift job at 11? Just open the door and go train. Want to train on Christmas Eve ? It's open. Want to train in a blizzard? Elite NEVER closes. But the best thing about Elite isn't the awesome equipment or convenience.....it's the atmosphere. Even though the owner Duane is a national level bodybuilder, he has created a gym that is hardcore and laid back at the same time. We have hardcore NPC bodybuilders training next to softball grandma's and everyone shares the space and gets along. Duane also caps the membership so that never gets too crowded. Try grabbing a bench on Monday night at the franchise gym.....you might wait an hour or more. Duane also encourages good gym etiquette, so people know to share equipment and use it properly. Elite is a wonderful place and am so thankful for it.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at Allen Ordonez’s review. My recollection is that he eventually slammed a dumbbell so hard that it broke. That is just a lack of disrespect whereas everyone I know who goes to Elite has the upmost respect for Duane. Duane is both very friendly and very engaging…he seems to always be around to answer questions about training and even offer tips. He doesn’t even hesitate to spot me or anyone else. As for the equipment after being a member of commercial gyms for years with their brand new shiny equipment, I now see how new isn’t always better. The older equipment was built better and the feel when you’re pushing it is totally different. As one reviewer said, it has the feel of an old school bodybuilding gym though the members are diverse in their backgrounds from bodybuilders to powerlifters to people who just want to stay in shape or improve their health. Ages range from high schoolers Duane has helped to people in their 80s! It’s a great gym. Once you’ve tried it out you will never want to step foot in a commercial gym again.

This is exactly the gym I like going to. A rugged gym where everybody's trying to put in as much work as possible within a certain time and leaving. Not too crowded. Just lift weights. Go home, nothing extra. I've never had an issue with the owner. I love it overall. Would love to come back whenever I'm in town

Owner has no sense of customer service. Duane (the owner) stormed across the gym to scream at me while the gym was packed. After politely asking him not to speak to me that way he berated me further for slamming a d*** bell. Maybe if the gym equipment wasn’t from the 80s it wouldn’t be falling apart?Good luck finding equipment with less than a decade worth of use in it.

Been going here for a while and overall it's great, but there are a few issues. The reasons why I like it are because it's location is convenient to me, never ever gets too crowded, 24 hour (big deal), and it's got an old school bodybuilder feel to it that I love, he also has a few chest, leg, back pieces that are amazingNow for the bad parts, while Dwayne does have some really awesome equipment, a lot of his equipment is just very disappointing compared to what I've used in commercial gyms, especially the condition. For example the leg extension machine is so torn up it will rip your skin off at medium weight. Upholstery is falling apart everywhere. The only other downside is there is only a one person "locker room" which is a shower a bathroom and some mirrors, and a counter. But I've very rarely had to wait to use it. If equipment was in better shape id give 5 stars all the way! Overall, this gym is great, and everyone here for the most part is serious about their training! Nice spot, great owner!

24 hour bodybuilding goodness. A perfect gym for meatheads and body builders, and a very good one for powerlifters. Lots of dumbells, multiple racks, hack squat, and some good machines, including some less common ones like a GHR station, a back hyper table, and some interesting calf machines. Everything looks well worn but maintained. The owner was very nice when I went for a trial. The only downsides I can see are that there's no space for some of the more "functional" style training, like throws or sprinting, and the strip mall its in seems a little sketchy.

Absolutely love this gym. It’s 24hrs so there’s always a way to get in. Although it’s a major powerlifting gym, everyone is welcoming and frequently willing to help beginners! Couldn’t ask for any other lifting equipment, Duane has everything imaginable!

Definitely one of the best gyms In the Roanoke valley. Place gives of an old school bodybuilding gym feel but has plenty of powerlifting/strongman goodies. Plenty of power bars, deadlift bar, squat bar, plenty of bands and chains, the best assortment of specialty barbells I’ve seen in the area. Deadlift platform with bands pegs, 2 power racks, one of the only gyms I’ve seen that has a belt squat machine, reverse hyper, and GHD. Plenty of machines and cables. Dumbbells up to 180 lbs. My only complaint is the lack of a decline bench and a monolift. Doesn’t matter what you’re into bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman, or general health. This is a awesome gym and you should check it out!

If you're looking for a real old school weightlifting gym with small crowds; Elite is the place to be in Roanoke. No waiting for equipment and a family like atmosphere.
