I brought in four male mice, having always heard that they needed to be neutered to be caged together because otherwise male mice can fight. They were still fairly small, and the doctor advised the following:
- He didn't recommend operating on them because they were still small and had not displayed any signs of aggression.
- He suggested bringing them back if and when they did become aggressive.
- He suggested switching from seed mix to pellets because it would be a better nutritional balance.
The doctor was right on EVERY count. That was over a year ago, and the boys have never fought. They are the sweetest together, playing and sleeping and cuddling together all the time. They love running on their wheels at the same time, which is hilarious to watch on the video feeds. They get along perfectly.
The switch to pellets was also a huge success. They love the pellets and no more concerns about picky eating in seed mixes.
To Dr. Stewart and staff: please know that those four boy mice are still peacefully living together and having a blast in their enclosure. Thank you for the sound advice!

Poor business tactics and communication skills ? It's their communication and their fav. The line for an extra charge on your bill. "The Dr. recommended it be done. Well, charge the Dr.then, Not me. Please take care of what I came for, nothing more, nothing less. Please and thank you because now you have lost another customer !!

I took my rats here many times while living in Roanoke both for routine and emergency services, and was always incredibly grateful to have such a good exotic pet to take my girls to. I always knew they were in good hands—Dr. Stewart is experienced and knowledgeable, and the staff at the Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic always had both my and my rats’ best interests at heart! I highly recommend this location to anyone with exotic pets.

They where very good with my little dog and not outrageous on price as every other one was. All though my baby didn't come back home it was a great place. They where all very kind and considerable. I would recommend them to everyone.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. We were fit into the schedule same day to see our gerbil. This seemed like a very well run veterinary office. Thank you!

They have been incredibly helpful in caring for our pet mouse. I recently received a call, well past closing hours, from Dr. Stewart about results that just came in and I was in stunned that he cared that much to update us that night. Wonderful veterinarian and wonderful nurses.

Dr. Stewart has been the vet for my exotics since before he opened his own clinic- he stays current and I fully trust his opinions. Also much appreciated is the compassionate nature of the care he and his staff have given my companion critters. Definitely recommended.

Absolutely amazing visit for my pet rats Jack and Ennis. Everyone was just awesome to talk to and made it a lot easier on me, a new pet owner, to understand what I need to do for medications for my babies. I really enjoyed talking with Dr. Stewart who was upfront about cost and the potential dangers. The technicians were also just incredible and the one gentleman who explained things to me when I first got there was so polite.

Dr. Stewart and his staff took amazing care of my ferret while I lived in Roanoke. I appreciated how they took my concerns seriously and did everything they could to diagnose and treat my ferret during every visit. I always felt like my pet was treated with the same importance as a member of the family. I have unfortunately moved away from the area and have not found an exotic animal practice with the same quality and skill. However, I will always be thankful of the care my pet received while I lived in Roanoke and how it undoubtedly contributed to my ferret living a long and happy life.

I can't say enough about Dr. Stewart and his team. He has taken my bunnies on multiple occasions for same day emergencies even though they were very busy. Dr. Stewart helped me as I said goodbye to our sweet 7 year old bunny and did everything he could with her during her last few hours of life and even stayed with her during the night and kept me updated so I could come and say goodbye. It is so hard to find an exotic vet that truly cares and understands especially during emergencies. Donna ( I think is her name) is always so sweet and caring at the front desk. If you have a bunny or any other pet, I can't recommend Avian and Exotic clinic enough.

They would not return my pet to me until my partner dropped everything at work and called them, even though I gave them the authorized payment when I dropped my pet off. They implied repeatedly that I was trying to pay with a stolen credit card. The slim chance that they might not get paid was their biggest concern. They care about money, not animals.Even after my partner called the vets office, they still claimed that I hadn't paid and they wouldn't give my pet back. This is after they told me that my pet might only have a couple months to live. The whole experience was terrifying and humiliating. They treated my sick pet like collateral.

Dr. Stewart and his team took wonderful care of my pets and has always been available to answer any questions I've had. A wonderful clinic and my pets thank them for all they've done.

Dr. Stewart & his team took wonderful care of my leopard gecko! I had taken my gecko to a different vet three separate times for shedding issues and they kept telling me that he was fine and the shedding issues were normal (which I knew wasn't the case). Immediately upon receiving my gecko Dr. Stewart knew what the underlying issue was. It had gotten to the point where there were several other complications and he had to stay the night, but when I picked him up the next day he looked like a brand new lizard. He not only looked better, but I could tell that he felt so much better too. It is obvious that Avian & Exotic really cares about the animals and educating owners. I was also shocked by how affordable the services were considering that my pet needed fairly extensive treatment. I'm so grateful for everything Dr. Stewart & his team did for my gecko!

A family member had an elderly cockatiel that needed surgery. Age related issues demanded certain extended care to make sure the bird could endure surgery. Tweety the bird passed away prior to her surgery, but I was very impressed with the effort Dr Stuart and his staff put forth to save a life. They go all out to care for your pet.

Some people just know right from the start how to bring joy to one another's heart. Some people just know how to love and to give and they do such nice things everyday that they live.
