My husband and I did the truffle hunt this past weekend. It was such a good time. Olivia, Vanessa, and their mom are very good hosts, and wonderfully knowledgeable all things truffle and their story is fascinating. If they started offering truffle 101 and 102 classes or a certificate program, I’d be their first student :) We met their truffle dog, Nadine who is the real super star of the experience. Our hunt yielded 3-4 truffles, we learned the basics of grading and truffle uses. I’d love to go more into the science and agriculture practices.

We had a fantastically pleasant experience hunting for truffles in the Virginia countryside. Hearing the family and their neighbors share their ingenuity and dedication to learn european techniques to plant English oak trees in Virginia to harvest truffles years later was inspiring. The grand dame of truffle sniffing dogs was entertaining and fantastic at her job. The hot cider and snacks infused with truffle hit the spot. If you like 4-H or FFA, you may feel inspired at the enterprise. I highly recommend going on a truffle hunt and buying a truffle to take home!

Drove up from Richmond to participate in a truffle hunt and had a great time. The staff is very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about how they cultivate truffles, how they train their truffle hunting dogs, the landscape of the truffle industry, the science behind it all, and more. The snacks they provided were delicious. I'm excited to see this business grow so we can have more locally grown truffles available.

Looking for an unusual, informative and fun outing? Virginia Truffles will not disappoint !! This 26 acre family owned farm nestled in the rural town of Rixeysviile Va , about twenty minutes drive from Culpepper is more than a home to the usual sheep, ducks, chickens, roosters and dogs but to the elusive and treasured truffle. You don’t have to be an agriculturist or even a grower of these elite edibles to enjoy a visit to this happy place. We were greeted by the owners who had the fire pit already lit and a tray of coffee, cider and cookies also warmed and ready. We knew next to nothing about truffles and the owners patiently answered all our questions and more. We came for our visit a good two to three weeks ahead of harvesting time but Olivia and her truffle sniffing dog Nadine, patiently demonstrated to us exactly the process needed to unearth these treasures. You could sense the excitement and joy this duo felt working as a team and what joy each would feel if a truffle was found. Myself and guests felt like pioneers searching for gold but our hosts treated us as if we were the treasures. Definitely worth the trip.
