The YWCA RICHMOND is an amazing organization with extremely motivated workers dedicated to making a real change in Richmond Virginia. I enjoy showing up each and every day. From the YWCA Hotline, to the Illustrious Sprout School to our amazing Social Workers, we are here to make a difference in the lives of women, children, and people of color!

I toured the daycare at the bainbridge location because it was recommended by childcare aware as a facility that toke children with disabilities on a case by case bases. I also saw the facility on a flier as a mixed delivery site and decided to contact the center. Ms Burrell contacted me back promptly and brought me in for a tour. After the tour I gave her all my paperwork to copy and as soon as I told her my son was autistic she stopped in her tracks gave me all my paperwork back and said maybe maymont will suite him better but if I do decided to proceed with enrollment just email her. I emailed her probably the next Tuesday about continuing enrollment . No response. The next week I called . No response. The next time I emailed her and the mixed delivery team about her ignoring me and then magically she finally responded that same day ! And responded she was so swamped she couldn't respond to my email nor calls for 2 weeks ! But then asked for me to bring my son in to see if it would be appropriate to have him there.Im not an idiot and I knew as soon as I told her my son had autism her whole demeanor changed honestly she couldn't get me out that office fast enough how much she was rushing me out . What makes it worse is that she was a center recommended for a child with disabilities. I brought him in at ms Sykes request. We went on another tour while waiting on Ms Burrell to be ready to "meet with us." Ms. Sykes observed my 3 year old child in a 4 year old classroom for some reason I don't know why he was put in a classroom with children not his age. Then when Ms Sykes finally toke us to Ms Burrell office after stalling she said ms Burrell couldn't meet anymore and had an emergency after this visit was suggested by ms. Sykes and already planned. So to save any other families from dealing from discrimination just from their child's diagnosis please stay far and clear from this daycare if your child is not "normal and perfect !" I would have rather her been honest and said yea I don't enroll autistic kids but she rather beat around the bush because she knows Thats discrimination. It's sad to see how kids are turned away before people even get to know their abilities, but it's probably for the best because if she would lie about why she was not responding and having a emergency during a planned meeting I'm sure she would be quick to lie if anything would have happened to my child . I hope the director Ms Burrell gets a better understanding about children with disabilities And Ms Sykes learns to become a actual advocate because the way they handled this situation was unethical and very unprofessional. This situation left me very upset and disappointed in this childcare center !

This place only helps domestic women if you’re homeless but if you’re a man forget it

Asked me 100 personal questions. Then just told me to call the police. Well I did that and now my life is still in danger. He’s out there knowing I called them again, and I can’t go back there or to anyones home he knows I go to. They didn’t seem interested in actually helping me. I have no idea why they asked me so many personal questions only to simply say “call the cops”. These ppl are going to get me killed. Please pray for me. I did what they said and they haven’t even followed up to see if I’m still breathing. There’s really no help For women like me here. Oh well. At least when they find my body on the side of the highway they’ll know who did it.Oh and someone said they helpU if ur homeless. No they don’t. The woman I spoke with said in order to get help from them I CANNOT be homeless.

My daughter originally went to the Sprout school at their CMoR location. She now attends this downtown location for after school care and vacation care. They really take a great interest in your children. If you're looking for a great after-school program or even a pre-k program I would suggest here.

Some good programs for abuse survivors. Like SCAN's release of the film, Resilience, knowledge & safety come from learning. Where do we find that? Where do we find that in the absence of good parents or solid role models? It would be a huge community service if police stations offered awareness programs once a month lead by VWAP, SCAN, The Y, and the police. Sometimes a crime victim prevention seminar is provided by Richmond or Chesterfield. As with the Catholic Church, great distrust is felt by people for their own police force. How a child or adult is treated determines greatly their ability to trust where to turn to. We are educated by family, school, peers, print & TV media, & by EXPERIENCES. PBS goes a long way in teaching kids what to do if they feel scared or unsafe or bullied. "Tell Someone". How many of us do this? How many adults really KNOW where to turn to? Do they know what a crime is? Nope. I didn't until attending a seminar given by F.S. from the Y. She said, "If an adult or child doesn't recognize what to call something, how can you stop it or get help?".
