THREE times in the past 8 days the Tuckahoe YMCA kept the pools open despite thunder and lightning in the area (including the VERY dangerous storms last Thursday). Twice swim lessons were going on and dozens of children were in the pool WHILE it was thundering and lightning outside! In addition, the decision to eliminate the Lap Swim Reservation System has degraded the lap swimming member's experience significantly. Before the system was eliminated, any member could sign up for and get a guaranteed space to swim at any given time. Now you have to drive all the way to the Y and HOPE there is a lane available for you. I have already wasted two round trips to Tuckahoe only to find I could not get a lap lane to myself.

The staff here are really nice and friendly. The only complaint I have is that the gym can feel really small especially during busy hours, but I understand that they're doing renovations. The swimming pool can get crowded sometimes too, and I'm not the biggest fan to going through the pools to get to the gym, but I don't mind it. Definitely recommend the rock wall.

Went back after YEARS and to be honest the gym part was disappointing to me. The rest of it is great.. I just feel like the workout room was an afterthought. It’s really packed with stuff but not enough space for it all. They need to expand.

Came in to lift, got kicked out for my crocs. They’re close toed so it’s never been an issue at any other YMCA I’ve been to. This is anti-croc discrimination.

I participate in water aerobics and then have an hour of personal training. I feel very accomplished with a cardio workout and then strength training in my personal training session. The instructors are excellent. They all have their own way to present exercises in water aerobics and there is benefit to everyone of them.

Usually a 5 star, but the facility is being expanded and the construction creates some inconveniences for customers.

Even under construction, I love this Y. I love the people, I love the classes, and I fit right in. Zumba with Kayla & Christine are my favs and Margie's class HIIT is like a big happy family while I struggle to do burpees.

I love this place. All of the instructors are excellent and I’ve done aqua fitness and Zumba and body sculpt. Everyone is super friendly and it’s easy to reserve a swim lane. All the members are welcoming too.

Variety of activities for all ages. Friendly staff. Friendly participants. I’ve made lasting friendships here. Exercising here is fun. Great operating times. Reasonable membership fees. Convenient that fees can be automatically deducted from your bank account.

The pools are way too cold. Kids shivering during their classes and even the “warmer” pool is freezing. I swam in the cleaner pool (extremely cold) and had goosebumps and purple skin when I got out after a few minutes. The other pool is really nasty, opaque water and it’s very cold also. Definitely not the 70+ degrees they advertise and I don’t know how cold the other one is supposed to be, but they shouldn’t have kids in there it’s so bad.

Wildly disappointed in every part of the kids swimming lesson experience.-The student teacher ratio is 5:1 but they proceed even when it's more.-The younger teacher doesn't know how to deal with kids that are nervous, she just ignores them and proceeds with the others.-The old woman teacher doesn't even notice when kids fall off the edge into the water right next to her, she calls my kid the wrong name every time, and gets frustrated, literally throwing her hands up on the air and complaining to other employees, when the child is nervous to get in. Sara has been the only engaging and capable teacher.-I specified in the entry form that my child would do better if I'm not there at all, but I have had to be in the water to help my own child during the classes because she couldn't trust the teachers.-With the way the kids take turns and have only one teacher sometimes, one child is only in the water for a total of FIVE minutes (if that) during the whole 30 min time slot. And with a different teacher at every class, the curriculum isn't even consistent; none of them are on the same page.-Also, the water is SO freaking cold. All the kids in the class are shivering half way through and have purple lips by the end. I've brought it up with several employees with zero action and the last one even told me today, "Well, I think it feels nice. Your child will feel better when she gets some meat on her bones." She's three.0 stars for the swimming classes. Would never recommend.

This location provides a great neighborhood gym experience. The staff are polite, and the facilities are kept clean.

Renovations making it extremely crowded and only a “family” locker room, no adult locker rooms. The pool is always crowded and even if you have a reservation, have to share a lane, which is fine. The gym is very crowded too. Hopefully it will be better once renovations are finished. The staff are always helpful and friendly.
