I really love this store! I sometimes would come here with my mom and brother back when I was young. It's been a decade since I've been to the Tokyo Market but was really blessed to have a chance to come back here today with my mom and brother. They have a lot of nice goodies, drinks, and lots of fancy plates. The cashier was very friendly and made me laugh today. I truly enjoyed my experience especially today and hope to have many more chances to come back to this store! :)

I just returned from vacation in Japan a few weeks ago and was already having some hard cravings for certain Japanese foods and goodies. I did a search and to my surprise there is a Japanese market in Richmond. I made immediate plans to visit and see what they had. It's a small market, however, she has a lot of packed into this little store. I found what I needed I had two bags full!-They have a selection of cookware, utensils, and dishes, stuffed animals and facial/body care.-Small selection of souvenirs and lucky charms, small bento boxes,-Nice selection of rice including high quality Koshihikari.-They carry Mizkan brand Rice vinegar and other products which I was excited to find!-They also have a few smaller Oke/Hangiri but I didn't check what kind of wood as I already have one.-Frozen and refrigerated foods.-Huge selection of RamenVery nice, helpful owner and staff. ❤️*One suggestion I would like to make is put price tags on the shelf or packaging as most items do not have a price. Some of your customers might be on a budget and want to compare prices. Arigato gozaimasu!Tip: if you can't read Japanese use Google lens and point it at the label and it will translate it for you. ☺️

We absolutely love this little spot to grab fun new things to try. We bought some amazing tea mugs there that were cheaper than amazon. I have two kiddos that like to move around a lot so I try to not bring them due to the narrow aisles and their love of sweets. I feel like maneuvering a stroller can’t happen in the shop itself. That being said it’s a great place and we have enjoyed a lot of great ingredients thanks to Tokyo market

Thoroughly engaging fun shopping stop! This store is SO big inside and is packed with a ton of products. Most of the foods are new to me, so I always really enjoy prowling the aisles and learning about the products. The dishes and fun food prep accessories were my favorites, but so were the snacks, and the frozen goods and...everything! Really nice staff always ready with warm welcomes and help to find what you're looking for. Great stop!

I have been here a couple times. Prior to coming I did see some of the reviews of the staff being rude and terrible customer service, but my kids were eager to come her for the Asian snacks. When we got there, the guy behind the counter greeted us. My daughter was looking at the stickers they had, she selected one and walked toward my direction to show me. The guy immediately said, “you need to put that on the counter.” I said, “excuse me?” He said, “store policy, there’s a sign.” Indeed there was a sign that said ‘stickers must be placed on counter for purchase.’ But my daughter just wanted to show me what she found and we were 2 feet away from the dang counter, so that automatically put a bad taste in my mouth. Then the second time I visited them, I brought my daughter, son and my baby since they wanted to come back for more treats. We gathers the snacks and placed them on the counter, the woman behind the counter (who seems like the owner) made an odd comment to my son (which I will not state here). On our very last visit there, I brought my kids and my family that came from out of town to the store. When we entered, my kids, as well as, my niece and nephew were told to put everything they touched back and to lower their voices. Now, I’m sure they were a bit loud as they were all excited about the snacks and little trinkets they found but my son walked out of the store and said that he would not want to come back because they were rude for a third time. Mind you, my son is 7.There is a polite way of saying things to your customers, rather than being abrupt and rude. I will not be returning here, I would rather pay extra online or travel further for a different store that carries similar products.

Overpriced Asian market - much cheaper online or at places like New Grand Mart. I would have still bought here despite the prices but the older lady was extremely rude telling us to close the freezer and hushing us away while my husband and kids were picking out items to buy. We definitely won’t be back. I can get items elsewhere a lot cheaper and with much better customer service.

It was our 1st time there and will never be going back because the female elderly lady was rude as heck to my daughter when we were walking around looking for stuff.

I just returned from Japan and stumbled on this ship while strolling through Carytown. I found the staff very rude. They greeted everyone except my family and I. They didn’t even speak as they checked me out. Not sure if it was racially motivated but I will not give them business again.

Adorable shop that makes it feel like you've travelled out of the country. They have such a huge selection of Asian foods, but also cute ceramic dishes, novelties, and even toiletries. Staff here is friendly and super fast with checking out your items. Only thing that would make this better is if the sign was easier to see and the aisle are very narrow so expect to bump into others or have to maneuver around when it is busy.
