I visited this gallery during NCECA earlier this year and it was the coolest place! Loved the atmosphere and variety of work. Everyone working there was lovely, and I enjoyed chatting with one of the artists, Jane Martin. I hope to find myself in Richmond again someday so I can go back.

Absolutely wonderful experience poking around the studio. Mark and his wife couldn’t have been more welcoming!! Truly eclectic artwork with wide variety of crafts/uses. They even allowed me to freely poke around and see how everything is made. Everyone was so nice and made me feel at home. True southern hospitality ❤️... read full comment

Amazing handmade ceramics. A Richmond treasure, must see!
Shockoe Bottom Clay is a ‘makers gallery’. There are 11 working studios and a ceramic art gallery featuring over 30 local and regional ceramic artists. The gallery is located in the heart of historic Shockoe Bottom and is housed in a 100-year-old hardware building that stood vacant for more than two decades. After two years of renovation, the gallery and studios are now in its 9th year of operation. We encourage stopping by and exploring the unique sculptural and functional handcrafted ceramics and seeing how they are created. There is a wide range of pottery from national and internationally know artists as well as emerging artists. The gallery is operated by the studio artists so we are all excited to share our creative process.
