This store is a gem!! We came across it today and were wowed immediately. Great atmosphere, adorable gifts and just awesomely fun things sprinkled throughout and the owner was icing on the cake. Her style and fashion definitely came through in her selection of merchandise and we can't wait to stop back in next season.

Love this store. Came in for a hostess gift because I know someone who said this was an easy place to grab and go. The owner was super helpful, she asked what i wanted to spend and, voila, gave me three options to choose from. My friend loved the candle and matches I bought. Highly recommend.

Love a lot of the items in the store. Prices are a bit high I would admit though. I've had several times when i've gone to purchase something and when it comes to checking out my bill is incredibly high only to find out that the $35 on the sticker was not for the entire piece but just for a portion even though it looked like one item. So, many times i've had to say, 'never mind 'and walk away embarrassed. Even worse though, i've once to go in there and even get a 'hello' or 'can i help you all with something?' or even an acknowledgement, not even a glance. The woman i've encountered several times is rude and unfriendly. I've given up going there.

I'm still not starry eyed about this shop. I reluctantly came in here the other day because my friend wanted to purchase something inside. I chuckled at the ridiculously high mark up on their items. The "cocktail mixology jars" cracked me up! Some sugar cubes, a cinnamon stick and a couple pieces of dried fruit in a jar for $25! Do they come with your very own personal bartender? I guess the people who buy these things are the same folks who bought "pet rocks and mood rings in the '70's" as my Yelp pal Jim C. mused. They also had a glass dome of colored matchsticks for $28! You do realize these are wooden sticks you throw away? If you need an aesthetically pleasing way to display your matches, then by all means, spend your hard earned money at this frivolous store. I did see a set of three Chinese paper lanterns that caught my eye... they were originally $40! Similar items with the same design and sizes sell on-line and at Party City for $8-10. Even on sale at $20, they are overpriced. Look, I have no problem paying good money for cool, unique, quality gifts or jewelry... I LOVE to shop... but much of the inventory here makes a laughing"stock", well, of their stock! If you're strapped for c"ash", this extravagant shop isn't worth a glance. Ditch the preposterous vendors and stick to the classic, useful pieces like your jewelry, purses, bar ware and soaps, and be thoughtful about pricing. It just goes to show you, all that shimmers isn't "gild". Although perhaps "gilty" of price gouging, if you're a spendthrift, you've found your "gilty" pleasure.

This shop is so aesthetically-pleasing, it is unfortunate the customer service is lacking and the inventory is very high brow. I visited here after wanting to come here for months, because it in the Patterson Avenue area, one that is known (or becoming known) for its design, home goods, and gifting focus. Stores in the area range from economically-sound to splurgeworthy, and Gild and Ash definitely falls into the spendy category. Side comment - Is it Gild and Ash or Gilt and Ash? It bugs me to no end that the outdoor sign on the building does not match the business's name elsewhere. Anyway, I walked in one afternoon and was met with many colorful items for personal use - think bath items and jewelry. The fragrance was strong, and when I spent some time smelling individual items, I was not impressed with the candles or creams. Given the candle brands are well-known among the rich, I was disappointed in the aromas. Then the jewelry display - Yikes! The pieces were beautiful, but I would find one pair of earrings at $70 and the one placed next to it is $200+. These pieces weren't even that innovative or original to warrant spending that, so not sure if that fault goes to Gild and Ash or the designer. As I continued to walk through the store, the woman working there acknowledged me once and allowed me to browse. I did like that she wasn't overly pushy about me making a purchase, but at the same time, it felt a little cold and like she assumed I wouldn't buy anything. I happened to find a winter hat that I really liked, and at $38, it was quite reasonable (and probably the cheapest thing in the store besides a key chain at the register). I asked her if she had a non-display model, and with an attitude, she said "I can check, but probably not. I will check anyway." She sighed and went to the back room for less than 30 seconds to no avail. I bought the store model, and as I was checking out, a friend of hers walked in. She forgot about me and instead started chatting with this other woman. She didn't smile as she handed me my bag, and even when I said "Have a nice day!" she glanced my way and said "Thanks" in the most disinterested way to only quickly return to talking to her friend. It was rude. Bottom line: I won't be back. While the shop is obviously better curated than some others in the area, the customer service is unfriendly and absent-minded unless you are a frequent customer or know the personnel.
