I loved this quaint and cozy book store - it had so many creative touches that the employees had added. Lovely collection of books, with personal reviews attached to the shelves from the employees. The girl at the register was super nice and helpful. We just happened to stumble across this shop when we lost our way to some place else, and it feels like we were meant to find it. Loved it, would visit again.

I wanted to love this store but being ignored several times by the staff left a bad impression. It was a lovely morning and I had just left my yoga class down the street when I popped into Fountain Books. They have a lovely selection, fun Richmond stickers, and a box of free books out front. However, the customer service leaves much to be desired. A staff member was standing next to me and said nothing, ok, they may have been busy, they passed me again and there was no greeting, then they proceeded to greet subsequent customers around me. I must have had on my invisibility cloak . . . I’ve never been inclined to spend money in an establishment that ignores its customers. C’est la vie.

There’s a bookstore in Richmond that has stood the test of time, a place where the walls are lined with the fruits of human thought and imagination. For over forty years, this store has faced down giants and weathered storms of digital transformation, yet it remains steadfast and unyielding. It’s a small haven in a fast-paced world, a place where each book holds a promise of adventure, knowledge, or escape. This bookstore began with a focus on technical texts, but as the years passed, it embraced the changing tides, from the digital whispers of audiobooks to the surge of young adult fantasy that captured hearts worldwide. Despite these changes, the store’s essence remains unchanged. It’s a community cornerstone, a place where book lovers gather, where discussions flow freely, and where the love of reading binds strangers together. As a patron, the evolution of the store is evident not just in the titles that line the shelves but in the very atmosphere that greets you as you step through the door. It’s in the thoughtful layout, the sections that seem tailored to every conceivable interest, and the events that transform shopping from a transaction to an experience. Here, authors and readers meet, share stories, and leave enriched. The resilience of this bookstore is not just a story of survival; it’s a testament to the power of community. In its most challenging times, it was the unwavering support of its patrons, the shared $20 bills, that kept the lights on and the doors open. This sense of community, belonging to something more splendid, makes shopping here a unique experience. It’s not just about buying a book; it’s about contributing to a story that spans decades, about being part of a family that grows with every visit. To walk into this bookstore is to step into a narrative woven from the countless stories it houses. It’s a place where history and innovation meet, where every visit leaves you with a sense of having shared in something special. This bookstore is more than a place to buy books; it’s a sanctuary for those who love them, a beacon for those who seek knowledge and entertainment, and a clear proof of the enduring value of independent bookstores in enriching the cultural fabric of a community.

I love unexpectedly stumbling upon a cute bookstore, and Fountain Bookstore has been one of the cutest ones I've come across yet. It's such a cozy space with so, so much product. The staff's friendly and helpful without making you feel pressured to make a purchase. They're really up to date with their stock, and I'm grateful that they were upfront with some of the book sleeves being messed up from a rough transport (frankly, they've got high expectations because the sleeves were barely imperfect). It's definitely a must-visit for whenever I'm back in town, especially given its picturesque location!

Tucked in on Cary St. is a neat bookstore. Friendly staff. Pretty good selection of books, gifts and other items. I found a newly released book I was looking for. I love walking in and finding what I need versus ordering online. Signed up for the rewards program so I have to go back. Great brick and mortar bookstore option for those of use in the East End, away from nearly everything.

An absolute pleasure and a must to visit regardless of if you live local or are just visiting Richmond. The staff was not only pleasant but extremely knowledgeable and I wish that I lived a lot closer!

Oh boy did this indie bookstore deliver! Nestled off of a cobblestone road, this quaint, charming and quite magical piece of history real estate is a must see! I met a fellow book lover while shopping and was invited to a virtual book club! Everyone was so sweet and you could tell that they ate, slept, and breathed all things books! I will definitely be back!

I order books online from Fountain Bookstore because they have sold signed copies from one of my favorite authors (Maggie Stiefvater). They have a great selection of books available (many are signed) and support local authors and small authors alike. I highly suggest that you check this place out if you are a lover of books, in person, or online!
