I stopped the shop with a lamp that needed repair, and Ken couldn’t have been more helpful. He’s knowledgeable about lamps and is also a great conversationalist. The showroom is also fascinating and has a great collection of vintage lamps and fixtures.

Katie and Ken were an absolute pleasure and so was their service! Let me start by saying the store itself is so unique and mesmerizing plus there was furry visitor to great us ?. We were in awe by the vintage lighting hanging around and the overall store was designed.Ken was able to fix my lamp socket within 30 minutes as a walk-in and even informed me that my socket was made for a certain kind of bulb; giving me the option of changing it out if I wanted. On top of excellent service, the price was totally reasonable plus I learned a thing or two about lighting. I’d come back here without a doubt!You can tell this is something they’re both passionate about and love doing. Not only do they perform light repairs, they also have a nice collection for sale and do installations!Never thought I’d need to visit a light store, but I’m glad I did. It was a cool experience and I highly recommend you check them out!!!

My wife and I recently visited the store my wife had purchased two lamps from another store one of them had concrete in the bottom and have come apart hi Google and found this I went in with the lamp and the owners were so so nice thinking I would drop it off and come back can one of the owners fixed it right on the spot he had to cut part of the cord put another attachment to he was very persistent but it got it done and did not charge us a dime I was stunned

This is the most amazing lamp shop I have ever been in. The antique lamps are so beautiful that they are absolutely mind boggling. I went in looking for someone to repair a very old lamp that was so loose at the neck, it was useless. Henry French, the owner was extremely kind and accommodating. He immediately started working on it. It was not an easy fix, but he found a way. His wife, Katie, was there also and made me feel welcome and comfortable. I will absolutely go back with some of my other lamps that need help. They are not open every day, so I do recommend looking up the hours before you go. And, I should add that they also have lovely contemporary lamps and also very modern ones if that is your thing. It was quite an experience.

I had very stubborn bulb that would not come out of my lamp, and Ken was persistently and patiently able to remove the bulb and give me a brand new one! Katie's customer service was so welcoming and enthusiastic! Their store offered so many beautiful vintage lamps, and I highly recommend stopping by to purchase or if you need repairs.

I reached out online to ask about having a chandelier reworked. Kate responded very quickly and gave me some basic information then took the chandelier into the shop and got started on the process with Ken. Working with Ken was a treat and reminded me how special it is to work with a true craftsman and directly with a small business owner. My project was not large or expensive but Ken treated me as if it was. I am so pleased with the decisions he helped me make and can't wait to have my revitalized chandelier hung. Thank you Benjamin French! I have told my friends about your amazing customer service and I will be back!

Benjamin French is an incredible store for unique and antique lighting fixtures. The owners, Katie and Ken, are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They are an absolute joy to work with! They helped us find the perfect lighting fixture that is functional and completes our space! We will definitely be back soon for more lighting fixtures and to catch up with Katie and Ken!

What I thought would be a boring errand to get a lamp cord fixed ended up being a delightful afternoon stop. Ken was able to assess and fix my lamp cord all while chatting along with me and his wife, Katie. The shop is beautiful with everything from chandeliers to sconces to cute little lamps for children’s rooms. This is a great local business that brings specialty expertise to downtown. Hoping to be back soon to look (and chat!) more.

I stopped by this shop with a couple broken lamps, and discovered this gem in Shockoe Bottom. The owner Ken fixed both of my lamps while we talked. His wife Katie and their dog were also friendly and helpful. This shop is truly a gem, and I can't wait to return for lamp repairs or lighting fixtures.

Stopped in my neighborhood lighting shop today to get a switch on an old lamp repaired. Wow, was I ever so surprised to find a gem on Main Street. Debating about taking my lamp to Shades of Light but wanted to shop local and I'm so glad I did. I met Ken, the owner, who was so personable and friendly and fixed my lamp while we talked. AMAZING! What a great find and just around the corner. Can't wait to return when I need light fixtures or any lamp or lighting repairs.
