Shenandoah Caverns is a beautiful, unique experience that is approximately 1.5 hours away from Chantilly, VA.
The closer you get to Shenandoah Caverns, the more signs you will see that will direct you to the right location. Upon arrival to the destination, you will see a parking lot that offers abundant, free parking.
Upon entry into the building, we were quickly greeted and offered the opportunity to take the next tour that was commencing in five minutes. Please note that the tours last for about an hour for a cost of $33, which I think is a adequate time period for a decent price.
To begin the tour, we had to walk down some stairs to gain entry into the cavern, which was absolutely beautiful. (As a heads up, there is also an elevator option to get down to the caverns.) Different areas of the cavern magnified so much beauty in different formation. For the most part, each stopping area depicted a varying aspect of the cavern's beauty.
The tour guide was engaging, knowledgeable, and patient as my friend and I took the opportunity to capture many, emphasis on many, moments.
At the end of the tour you have the option of seeing a free "exhibit" to the left of the staircase when exiting the cavern. There is also a souvenir area for one to shop for items of interest.
Overall, we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our first cavern!

This was a nice place to see on a day that you have nothing to do. The Luray Caverns are much bigger and better but I would rate this #2 for Caverns to see and Luray #1.
The Caverns were beautiful and lots of history behind them. It is worth coming to.

We visited Luray caverns two years ago, and this cavern last year… when my children had a choice of seeing another cavern or revisiting one this year, they chose here! I was nervous about a guided tour with young children but the tour guide kept my two children’s attention the whole time, allowed them to ask questions, and allowed time for us to have some fun exploring. My son especially liked the part when they turned off the lights for a brief moment and put a candle/lighter on to experience what the first young explorers saw upon first entering the cave. Their use of lights added brilliance while also being sustainable/stewards to the cave with their use.
Be sure to bring a sweatshirt because it was chilly! We were not prepared for that and ended up buying a sweatshirt at the shop - but it is currently my coziest sweatshirt that I now wear often.
We brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed outside, but there is also a cafe where we plan to eat today.

Fun experience! Worth the trip. Mckayla was awesome, she made the tour fun and interesting.
I recommended a phantom of the opera style tour

Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the Shenandoah Valley. 1 Hour long tour with several unique rock formations to see, and would be a great player to take your family. Tickets can be pretty pricey at $33 per adult at the time of writing. So be prepared to spend some money if you decide to go, but it will be a great experience to remember! You may also try Luray Caverns just south of here if that is closer!

Great stop on our roadtrip. Serenity was a fantastic guide answering all of our questions and keeping it fun for the kids. The formations and lighting were beautiful. We would recommend and suggest you take a jacket in.
It is a guided tour, but they are not timed. Staff said you would not wait more than 30 minutes to go though. Cute store and cafe on site.

It was a great experience I have never been to a cave before. We came on a Sunday the check in was quick in less than 5 minutes. We were lucky to arrive while a tour group about to start so we joined them.
The tour is approximately a 1 hour so be prepared to walk and it’s kind of chilly down there but it’s comfortable. The tour guide was knowledgeable and the place was very interesting. It’s worth visiting. Not to mention that staff are very kind !!
There is a cafe and a gift shop in the place where they have great stuff to keep as a memory.
Admission for adult was $33 per person.
Available parking

Came from Wisconsin and spent the week. Spent the day driving/hiking through the Shenandoah national Park. Umm..still out of shape. We cooled down in the caves... Smart move. We found a great deal on Groupon for 4 adults. The tour took 1 hour. The tour was good, and the guide was knowledgeable, but could have slowed down when speaking (my own pet peave.) They had a food area right on site. It's a beautiful cave system. It's not the Mammoth cave system, but great cave formations non-the-less. I would go back. The old-fashioned days exhibits were free, not to mention something I didn't expect to be there. Definitely unique.

We really enjoyed our tour of the caverns. The tour started about ten minutes after we arrived and the guide was really friendly and informative throughout the tour. The caverns are really impressive!
We did have a member of our party in a wheelchair and I will say that you need to take seriously what their website says that you need a strong person to push the wheelchair over the gravel paths. There is a gentle, but significant, slope to the path at the bottom of the stairs/elevator area. It wasn’t an issue to go down the slope as we entered the caverns, but I struggled with pulling the wheelchair back up the slope when we were leaving. I’m 6’4” and in good shape but still needed assistance from my wife in getting our family member in the wheelchair up the slope. If the person that is pushing the wheelchair is not in good shape, or if the person in the wheelchair is on the heavy side, I would not recommend trying to navigate the caverns in a wheelchair.
Overall it was a wonderful experience for us however, and I’m so glad we were able to visit Shenandoah Caverns!

A great location to visit. Friendly staff and knowledgeable tour guides. 70ish steps down into the cavern then about a mile and 70ish steps back up. They do have an elevator if you need it. The tour was a lot of fun. Lots to see. We also did the Main street walk thru (included) and the American Celebration tour($10). My 5yo was a bit scared but had a great time.

We were looking for something fun to do while visiting the area and escape the oppressive heatwave. We saw the caverns were only 15 minutes from our AB&B and decided to give it a go. Very nice facility and friendly staff. Our tour guide, Brandon did a good job and was very knowledgeable of the history and features of the cavern. The geology and formations are interesting and beautiful. After our tour we enjoyed lunch at the Caverns Cafe’ located in the main building. Definitely worth the price of admission.
