Went to get some fresh locally grown produce. As I was checking out I asked if it was organic produce. She said no, and none at the market is, and that they all buy their produce from the same truck. She said if someone says it is organic that they are lying. What is the point of going if I can run to the grocery store for the same? People want locally grown produce. Without chemicals.

Best wings I have had in 20 years. The hot are actually hot, not just tossed in Texas pete and butter. Flavor through out. Good size wings at a fair price. I found my new wing place in Portsmouth!

On a cool autumn morning, you'll want to enjoy this piece of hometown Americana. First, head for the coffee lady on the corner and grab a large cup of freshly perked coffee! A few stops away you can purchase a fresh breakfast bun and maybe a few more to take home. There are some wonderfully scented bath soaps and scrubs Treat yourself or buy some early Christmas gifts! I bought some scrumptious homemade jam and stocked up on some fresh veggies for the week. Also took home a few honey crisp apples. If possible, try to purchase the heavier fruits and veggies at the end of your visit so you don't have to carry around these heavier items while browsing. Enjoy a leisurely visit to this gem of a farmer's market!

If you want the best pick of produce, you actually have to get to the farmers market as soon as they set up. That's 9am sometimes, 10 others. It's located in front of the cultural arts center and extends around to Court Street where Still (the speakeasy tapas spot) is. All the vendors are friendly and most have samples of their baked goods. I was even able to sample a persimmon. Tastes like a hybrid, but I digress.

Olde Towne is totally different from the area thait greeted me when I was stationed here in 2013. The city has deep cleaned its downtown area and added a health food store, antique stores, five star eating establishments, breweries that serve IPAs, authentic Mexican restaurants, an elegant gardening center, super fancy apparel stores, sports bars, a renovated City art museum, Tidewater Community College has a campus building, paint nite locations, a pottery studio, upgraded the City Library, the historic churches are restored, and then there are Farmer's Markets filled with local farmers veggies, seafood and baked goods. I am afraid I am going to miss something that I want you to know about this little old city that has found it's place in modern times. The city has added many types of housing for young adults, seniors and elitists in the downtown area. Builders know that Portsmouth is the new little old city. They are building luxury apartments with parking included in the leases. Police are present yet friendly. I like the security as I walk from the bar to my car after hours. No else seemed to be concerned as they giggled and went from restaurant to sit on the waterfront. The changes in the city are mind-blowing. The city must have issued notices to everyone downtown that their Mayor wants to model Portsmouth after Norfolk. The streets in Olde Towne have no potholes (as of today). I am impressed and I looking forward to the upcoming Church tours this Spring. If you have not personally been to Portsmouth this year check it out, it has changed and you will enjoy the changes. I am impressed! Headed back to the 'burbs for now but I will be back.
