Staff is great to the pets but wwooowww is this place expensive and a total sales pitch. To the point they try to guilt you into all of the unnecessary extras. I will say if you don't mind blowing money you don't have to, this would be the place to go since they do treat the animals well.

I was blown away by the friendliness at this clinic! They could have been family!? There was no rushing or hurry to get you out, answering every question. I very much recommend this vet clinic!

We adopted two kittens in June, 2024. We live in Poquoson so we selected the Poquoson Veterinary Hospital over another veterinary hospital we used YEARS ago when we had other cats. Our first visits establishing our two kittens was handled very well. Things went smoothly from check in to procedures. We were given estimates of various procedure costs so we knew what to expect. The staff and vet techs were all very helpful and professional. I felt a lot of care from checking in until departure.
It is now October and we just had our kittens spayed. Again, check-in and check-out were flawless. Paperwork was all prepared in folders, ready for my approval and signature. The spay went without problems. I was informed when they were awake and given a time to pick them up.
3 days later: my kittens experienced some discomfort. The kittens were aimlessly wandering around, not eating, drinking and looking very uncomfortable. I called at 7am concerned and the cats were in the clinic by 7:30!! I thought it might be pain. Dr. Pirhonen detected one cat had BACK pain! (Incision and stitches looked fine from the spay.) She took an x-ray and discovered a bowel blockage which was causing both the cats discomfort!! I was so grateful they were able to see the kittens quickly and treat the cats appropriately. I felt like I had emergency care today for sure. I'm now awaiting to pick them up in a much better mood. Choosing Poquoson Veterinary Hospital was the right thing to do. The parking lot is always busy but once inside, things move quickly along. We sat and watched (waiting for results) as so many owners left their pets for various procedures. We all love and care for our pet as family so thank you staff and doctors for giving our '4-legged family members' so much care and concern and love.

I just had to put my dog of 14 years down today. Matt Williams and the technicians were so comforting and helpful in my decision.

Tried to tell me it is required my law to perform an exam on an animal before a fecal test. Then BLACKLISTED me when I confronted them because they couldn't provide the law, because it doesnt exist. What they were referring to was 150-13 of the Virginia code that requires a physical exam before dispensing "control substances" medications. You don't need meds if the fecal is negative. Don't get lied to.

My Bella sometimes can be a little Fiesta, and they were great with her even though she tried to run away!! She hates getting her toe nails clipped. Lol But they did a great job with her, she came out smiling and missing her Momma!!

I can’t say enough great things about Poquoson Veterinary Hospital. We are a military family that has moved around quite a bit since we got our dog, Sully, and this is by far the best Veterinary Hospital we have encountered. All the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. They keep us up to date via email reminders/texts regarding upcoming vaccination, exams, etc, which is very helpful. Dr Ashworth is absolutely amazing. She has such a calm and caring presence that just makes the whole vet experience for both the owner and the animal so much easier. You can tell that she really enjoys what she does and loves animals. Dr Williams performed our dog’s Gastropexy procedure, and he was very knowledgeable about this topic and addressed any questions/concerns we had. We had great results post-procedure. We have had several vet techs that were all great, but Shelby has definitely stood out. She is such a sweetheart. She goes above and beyond to take care of Sully and make him feel comfortable. Sully absolutely loves her. We are really going to miss her when we leave Virginia.

We chose Poquoson Vet to board our cats for a quick trip out of town. This is our regular vet and we had used them in the past. Nothing was wrong with the boarding, but some of the past considerations were gone. In years past, we had received a report card after the boarding to tell us how the cats had behaved. They also had previously invited us up to see where they would be boarded. Those extra touches go along way and it seems they’re no longer standard practice.
