Lovely old mansion with a lovely hostess. Delicious breakfast served buffet style. Rooms adorned with period furniture. Coffee, water, and soft drinks available throughout the mansion. Skip the chain motels and step back in Petersburg’s history. There’s even a photo of Mr Ragland with a lengthy historical obit. How cool is that?

What a wonderful experience! Staying at the Ragland Mansion was like a trip back in time. The house was so elegant, interesting, and fun. Claudia was the perfect innkeeper. Her hospitality was top notch. Breakfast was delicious and served in the circa 1857 dining room. We thoroughly enjoyed this historic gem. I highly recommend it to visitors who appreciate efforts to preserve our history.Rooms: Large, lovely, comfortable.Food & drinks: Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices. Complimentary wine in the drawing room as a very nice touch.

I arrived on a Friday morning for a weekend in Petersburg, to a large unassuming building where a petite woman was mowing the lawn. We smiled at each other and I preceded to the side door. Moments later the same woman greeted me with a warm smile and said she would go inside and open the door. Claudia is the owner, the chef, innkeeper, the grounds keeper, front desk manager and reservationist for this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. She simply pops up anytime she is needed and quickly disappears once she has sweetly shared a moment of her time with you, on to the next thing. The mansion is well kept, clean and takes you back in time all while feeling like staying with a great family member. Apparently I am not the only guest that feels this way as some weeks she is sold out months in advance! I will always return to the Ragland Mansion as long as there is a room to have me!

What a gem of a place! Claudia and her family have done an amazing job with the restoration, and she was an equally gracious, generous, and attentive host. We had a spacious and beautiful room with a great bathroom with clawfoot tub, breakfast included—a luxury hotel experience for a bargain price! The 19th century furnishings and appointments will transport you back in time, but with modern conveniences and a diverse, welcoming atmosphere. An oasis in downtown Petersburg, and very convenient if you're traveling through the Richmond area like we were. Why stay at a Holiday Inn or Best Western when you could stay here?

Fantastic place making a stop traveling South/North - what a nice little gem. And 1000x better than staying in the usual Marriott/Hilton etc. nice breakfast, free wine and beer, very cozy living room. And the town itself has a great brewery and a couple of excellent restaurants to discover. We walked into town, it’s a 3 min drive if you want to take the car. The brewery in town is fun. We will come back!

I came here recently for my trip for a weekend trip to do Richmond activities with my sister. We didn't like the choices of hotels and settled with a B&B.The house manager was very kind and personable. We arrived 5 minutes late for check in but I made a call once I saw the time and it was no problem ?When we arrived we were given a tour and told how breakfast went.Everything seemed clean in the room. The room was very large, we had our own bathroom and queen sized bed. There's also a chest with hangers if needed. We felt pretty safe there and comfy like home. There's unlimited drinks, a fridge and microwave you can use if needed. It was usually very quiet on the inside (you can hear some outside noise from time to time but it's not normally loud). You can control the air conditioning and there is wifi available. Smart TV as well. The other plus is privacy. You can requesto have your room clean otherwise your room will not be entered. Also dogs are allowed! (Ours stayed home).I can earnestly say I enjoyed my stay here and would return if I was in the area :]Rooms: Clean and largeWifi3 chairs and a deskA queen sized bedAir purifierSafety: Lock code and ring cameras outside the premisesFood & drinks: Breakfast served starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 8:30 a.m.Unlimited Tea and coffeeBeer and Wine

We were driving back from a whirlwind trip to N VA, and needed to stop overnight. I found this B&B on Tripadvisor and knew it was the right place. What a good call!! First off, Claudia, the owner/operator, could not be nicer, more gracious, or more laid back. She was completely refreshing. She made perfect recommendations for a local restaurant and a quick activity before we had to leave. She made us a lovely and delicious breakfast and we had a great chat about gardening. She apologized that the mansion is a "work in progress" but we found it absolutely amazing. It is so beautiful and full of character. Most historic places need some work, but it really is a gem. It was easy to find, easy to stay, the Ragland suite was huge and incredibly comfortable. It was one of the hottest days in a long time but the units in the suite cooled everything off quickly upon arrival. The king bed was perfect for us. It is firm but not hard. We both slept great and woke refreshed!I can't recommend The Ragland Mansion strongly enough. If you are one who appreciates character, charm and history, this is the place for you. If you prefer the mundane and predictable, stick with Hamptons or Courtyards. No thanks!

Have been to over 25 B&Bs. Ragland was the best for a photographer like me. The rooms magnificent...the faded glory of a house built in the mid 1800's was perfect - don't want it to look like a Hilton. Incredibly helpful and gracious host, Claudia.

I was in Petersburg to tour the Civil War sites and decided to stay a the Ragland.
I slept on the third floor in a nice large room. The breakfast was large and amazing. It was fun meeting the other guests and enjoying a glass of wine in the evening.
I repeat the previous customer's statement " And kudos to Claudia who made all of this a wonderful experience. Do not think twice about staying with her." I don't know how she does it!

Chose Ragland Mansion, strictly from the website and reviews, as a stopover on our way from Savannah to Pennsylvania. We were not disappointed! Claudia was a perfect host with a beautiful home. Many first floor sitting rooms each well stocked with beverages to enjoy. Our room was large and very comfortable. Claudia gave us dinning recommendations and we had a very good meal at Croaker's Spot. A good breakfast set us back on the road happy. Like all historic large homes, it's a work in progress, but that gives it charm, warmth, and history. We were very happy with our stay!

Incredible bed & breakfast! Was absolutely stunned about how gorgeous the property is – photographs don't do this place justice! Thanks again to Claudia for being so hospitable.
