I wish that I could rate them ZERO stars. Bad management, unprofessional front disk, carelessness about patient’s time and need, and finally random inaccurate appointments. They rescheduled my appointments 3 times due to their request, not mine, and the last appointment was booked at 5:00 pm I told her it didn’t work for me because I just finished work at that time and I needed a 30-minute drive from Sterling, then the front disk told me it is ok I will tell the doctor about your delay. Then I agreed to book it at that time. So, they knew in advance that my estimated time to arrive was 5:30 p.m. during our phone conversation. On that day when I was on my way, I got a call from them at 5:18 pm to confirm my appointment. I told her I was arriving in 2 minutes, and I was in their office at 5:20 pm. In a bad reception, she told me unfortunately you were late (1 minute) after our call, so you should reschedule it because you are not able to see the doctor in a careless bad way!!!!! I explained that it was not my mistake, it was all the front desk's responsibility to give me an early appointment that didn’t work for me and told me it was okay to arrive late. Unfortunately, they shocked me with their way of treating me without any respect for my time and effort to arrive ASAP. I asked her to see the person who booked the appointment for me, then she said she was here at the office but you could not see her!!! My first time to be treated like I am NOTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!I don’t recommend it at all. As a patient, I need a place that treats me respectfully and cares about my time, needs, and their patient's schedule.

This complaint is specifically about Michelle Tolson, the eyewear consultant who was working on Saturday (9/23/23) when I picked up my progressive eyeglasses. It is my first pair of progressive at the suggestion of Dr. Vu-jia. The optometrist who helped me pick the frame was very pleasant and professional. They both reminded me that it's different from single-focal glasses and takes time to adjust. So naturally when I picked up today, I asked Michelle what are things I need to know about wearing progressive. Michelle was like oh just look around. I told her I can see things afar clearly, but it didn't seem to help with reading small font, and I was using something I found in my purse to test. She then handed me a card with small fonts, and I was not able to read the top three lines with my glasses on. So I took the glasses off, held the card closer and could read easily the small fonts. Then I asked Michelle how I am supposed to know if the progressive (farsightedness correction) is working for me when I can read the small font much better with my naked eye. she immediately replied: Then you probably don't need progressive glasses. Can you imagine how shocked and appalled I was at hearing this comment?!!!! Progressive glasses are NOT reading glasses! Yes, I don't need reading glasses, but Dr. Vu-jia strongly recommended me to get progressive for my nearsightedness because at my age when I am wearing nearsighted glasses, it makes it difficult to read. Michelle doesn't even understand what progressive glasses are supposed to do? How can she provide helpful instructions and tips to customers then?!! When I brought up this point, she was like I don't know every customer's eye prescription. I said this is not the kind of professional advice I expected from an optometrist. she said oh well I am NOT an optometrist. Indeed, her business card is "Eyewear Consultant", but even for an eyewear consultant, this level of ignorance and absent-mindedness is NOT acceptable. I got so frustrated that I said Dr. Vu-Jia suggested me to get progressive glasses, and you said I don't need progressive because I can read small fonts with naked eye, is that the kind of advice I should expect from an eyewear consultant? - you are gonna love this - She said "Oh I was just being sarcastic at that moment since you said you can read without the glasses."I've been going to Dr. Vu-jia for eye appointments for almost nine years, today's experience with Michelle Tolson is just beyond horrendous. There is another horribly unprofessional service from Michelle today that I don't even have time to write about. I would give her a zero star if there is an option.

Although it was a bit pricey, I had a good experience with Associate in Eyecare at Oakton until MyEyeDr. Doctors were friendly and patient; and staff were helpful with the vision insurance and billing. No problem was encountered. However, since MyEyeDr bought this practice, things have changed. I was charged an insurance on the prescribed glasses in the bill without being asked, and I kept receiving a bill for a huge outstanding balance even I have paid whatever co-pay was during the visit. I contacted the billing department and was told that I did not provide the health insurance (I provided previously and my insurance has not changed in years). I called back the practice, explained, and provided insurance info again. Guess what? Several months later, I received the bill again. Very annoying. Seriously consider finding a new place to go. I don't have time to deal with such administration.

I have gone there for years and had a good experience. Never had problems with billing. However, since MyEyeDr bought this place, I received the unexpected bill because they didn't have my medical insurance information. After I provided the insurance information, a few months later I received the same bill again. Very frustrating. I probably will not go there again.

Never had a problem when this place was Associates in Eyecare. Fortunately, they have the same optometrists under new owner. Unfortunately, the glasses made for me were not properly centered in the frame. Staff were apologetic and said they would re-do the glasses. I'll upgrade this rating if they come out right. Also worth noting is that the new owner sends spam emails. I also got a robocall that my glasses were ready for pickup at a time when the place was not even open - but no email. It is difficult to calibrate the settings to get the emails and calls you want and not get the ones you don't. Store staff said they would stop the robocalls.

Dr. VuGia is amazing. He is kind, patient, professional, and caring. He has been our eye doctor for years and years and we have never had anything but praise for him.However...The practice sold out to My Eye Doctor and now the staff are NOT GOOD. They seem to not be trained in the field of eye care or medical care at all - they are retail staff. They consistently over-promise and waaaaaaaaaay under deliver. It may be a lack of training? It may be that they are not the right fit for the positions?? It may be that My Eye Doctor doesn't pay them a professional wage? I do not know WHY, but I do know that what used to be a competent, professional practice has turned into basically WalMart for glasses and contacts.

Kevin Humphrey the optician exceeded my expectations. He was extremely knowledgeable about my optical needs, as well as making glasses and the optical business. He gave me excellent customer service. Kevin Humphrey is the best optician that I have ever dealt with. In Northern Virginia.

My original post was taken down but that’s great because since then there’s more to add. I’ve been going to Associates in Eyecare for about ten years seeing Dr. Vu Gia who is wonderful, however, since My Ete Dr. took over, it has gone downhill. The staff is rude and most of all incompetent. One of the ladies that answers the phone always sounds like she’s annoyed. I called to speak to the Dr. and He was out to lunch so I said please ask him to call me; it’s important and I gave him the message. Well the Dr. Never received the message. Made my appointment and was given trial contacts and also ordered glasses. When I went to pick up glasses I told one of the staff that I needed another trial pair which they didn’t have in stock. I then asked if he could check with another my eye doctor store to see if they had any. Why did I ask that. I got pouting and eye rolling so I told him forget it and walked out. About a week later I called and ordered the new contacts which are a different prescription . The gentleman that ordered them was very polite, however, when the contacts arrived, they were the wrong prescription. Sob this just shows that this will be an ongoing stressful experience. One thing after another.

I have been going to Associates of Eyecare for years. I have always been impressed with their professionalism especially at check-in. They have changed to My Eye Doctor and I literally just left after the treatment I received from the receptionist there. I will find a new optometrist. I have been driving from Herndon to Oakton because I loved this practice but now I have a reason to go someplace closer to home. I doubt I will trust My Eye Dr after this.

I see they took down my review which accurately depicts the condescending nature of Dr Vu Gia and this highly unprofessional practice so I will repost what I experienced earlier this year. Note to their management that they also NEVER followed up or responded to any of my concerns of the experience, but chose instead to ignore a patient.Go to another practice. I was already feeling stressed and tired that day, and British front desk lady at the time in February of 2022 had been rude and totally unprofessional over the phone.I saw Dr Vu Gia who I do not recommend (Dr Sheema was much better and more professional), he was patronizing and condescending to me the whole visit and I was so confused because the reviews here spoke so highly of him. He made me feel that I didn’t know what I was doing with selecting the brand of contacts that over years I know fits me BEST, and due to my high prescription he basically indirectly accused me of making poor decisions and driving in traffic with contacts that didn’t match my prescription exactly. When I told him there is NOT another pair of contact lens brand that fits my eyes comfortably after trying this already for years, he said so you’re ok wearing these driving in traffic? I told him yes I can see the sign just fine and he looked surprised and said “wow ok, well you shouldn’t be.” I was shocked, especially given so many glowing reviews on Google and Yelp, that he was so unprofessional and how could a doctor be so critical of a patients decision and totally deny and not believe me when I say I CAN see with that brand of contacts and of course this was also after making me try a different brand that matched my prescription but of course it was so uncomfortable I had to take them off during my visit. He pressured me to try the other brand and of course after wearing it and almost leaving the office I had to go back and tell him what I was trying to the past hour that no other brands are comfortable for me. This obsession with making sure the patients contact lens prescription matches exactly the contact lens despite being uncomfortable and PAINFUL to wear is not only unprofessional, bad medical practice, but also silly. I’ve never had a negative optician or optometrist experience before and I’ve been wearing glasses for 19 years. Makes me really sad the reviews aren’t truly reflective of something darker at this practice which is non accountability. They do not take accountability for the way they treat customers. What made everything. WORSE was when I called them back and told them I was uncomfortable with the lens, which made me trust the doctor less naturally. I asked the phone receptionist after a question, which was to confirm the contacts prescription had the correct sizing for my eye since typically they measure you after you wear a pair but since I didn’t do that, I was naturally curious and wanted to ensure the sizing would be correct when I order more contacts. When I called the receptionist who had a British accent, she bluntly told me “so….you don’t trust the doctor?” And I wish I had recorded this because there is no record of this happening but I’m telling you guys it did happen and believe me I was shocked! Then when I told her no it’s not that I just want to confirm she abruptly hung up on me. This is not a professional way to conduct business to your patients!!I hope someone out here will see the truth of what is going on at this practice. Since I last posted about my experience I saw my review was deleted and never addressed or responded to, while others reviews were quickly answered. This whole experience was enough to stress me out and almost had a breakdown because of how condescending and distrustful they were of me, the patient. How can you say you care about your patients when you don’t care about all of them? It’s said because management cant be held accountable now that new management (MyEyeDr) has taken over.*Note that this is not a review of the quality of services at MyEyeDr since my experience was before they switched ownership.

RUN FOR THE HILLS! I'm so sorry to have to write this review since my family and I have been going to see Dr. Vu-Gia for YEARS (as in almost 10). Before they partnered with My Eye Dr the whole office was amazing. Always helpful, always responsive and always friendly. Boy have things changed. My daughter (who is 19) just starting do things on her own went for an ordinary check-up a couple of weeks ago, and to ask about frequent headaches that we just assumed were due to a change in prescription. She came home with a breakdown for prescription lenses (lenses only. She was using the same frames as she walked in with) for $685 after insurance deductions, which included a charge of $287 for "Misc. Fee". As soon as she got home and I saw the charges sheet, I called to ask if I could get a description of each of the items listed, especially such a high Misc. Fee charge. The person who answered the phone sounded like it was all a big imposition to her, and could only repeat things like "That's what the doctor ordered for her" "That's what's necessary" "The cost breakdown is on the invoice sheet" "That's what's required", etc. She could provide no additional info, nor did she offer to get clarity on anything else. Her attitude was "take it or leave it, I don't much care". When I asked if we could please put a hold on the charges until I spoke to Dr. Vu-Gia to better understand what we were paying for, she took an even rudder tone and told me that she didn't even know if the doctor would even call me back at all. Obviously, being the professional and great person that he is, Dr. Vu-Gia called me back and took the time to explain to me exactly what was going on and what the charges were for. Made PERFECT sense! Let's do it! So, I called the front desk again to ask if we could change the CC to a different one ( I figured for that amount might as well get some points!) and the same rude woman that I spoke with before attempted to tell me that she would have to issue a refund, which somehow was going to be about $170 LESS than what was already paid for. When I questioned this, she said it was because "services are not refundable". Huh? But the invoice I have says that A) chares for the eye exam were paid by insurance already and B) our portion paid was only $10. Once again, she could not explain any further and stuck to "charges are non-refundable". I started to get frustrated trying to get her to understand that what she was saying to me made absolutely no sense, and so she told me that I was getting loud with her and so she would have to ask the "billing" person to call me back. No call back was received that night. When I saw the incapability of the people handling the situation, I thought it better to forget about changing credit cards and just proceed with the order as it was. I called the next day late afternoon (still no call back from billing person) to tell them that. Fine. Glasses should be ready in a couple of days. Fast forward to two weeks later and we STILL DON'T HAVE THE GLASSES! When I called the last time and was transferred to their Lab Manager, he said there had been a problem with the first lenses they made, so they were re-doing them. Ok fine. This was last Wednesday. When I called back on Friday, the new ETA was mid week. Ready for the icing on the rudeness front? When I called today to see what the status was, the same woman at the front desk answered, and when I tried to ask if she could tell me why they were taking so long she had the nerve to say "Well, you put a hold on them the day they were ordered so ....;." Excuse me WHAT?! When I told her that I called the very next day to green light the order and asked if "one day delay on my part warranted more than a week delay on their part?" she didn't have much to say. When I asked if there was anything that could be done to expedite them ...... you guessed it: no can do with a side of "suck it u

I had a great experience overall with my visit for an eye checkup and getting a prescription. The entire office was friendly and helpful and I felt I had a good experience.Unfortunately, the end result was not good. While I had a great experience at the time with Dr. Vu-Gia, he recommended I increase my prescription so my eyesight could be even better and see at 30/20 vision vs 20/20. Sounds good right to see better? Well with that increased prescription within 5-10 min of putting the new glasses on I would have major eye strain and headache. I know sometimes there's an adjustment period but after a few weeks it still wouldn't go away. I ended up putting my old prescription in my new glasses by replacing the lenses and everything was fine again. So I can't give them a great review because in the end while my office experience was good, I'm paying for the end result to be correct. I believe Dr. Vu-Gia had good intentions, but the end result has to matter, especially considering I had to pay extra money to get my lenses replaced. I have gone to many eye doctors over the years as I have moved around a lot, and have dealt with increased prescriptions many times since my youth, but I have never encountered this before.
