I’m absolutely thrilled with my haircut! The stylist, Alice, was incredibly skilled and understood exactly what I was looking for. She took her time to ensure every detail was perfect, and the result is one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. The whole experience was fantastic, from the friendly atmosphere to the professional service. I can’t recommend this salon enough and will definitely be back for future appointments!

Original Review:
DO NOT LET MARY CUT YOUR CURLY HAIR. I made the mistake of letting Mary cut my hair and she cut off about 12” more than what we had discussed, and much more than what I showed her in my inspiration photos. I didn’t want the length changed, it just needed to be cut for style. I had just trimmed it before my appointment. My hair was long-ish before, and Mary brought it up higher than my chin.
Before she started cutting I asked if she knew how to cut curly hair and she said yes and assured me she did. I asked if she understood that curly hair will pop up and be shorter when it’s dry. She again assured me she understood. During the haircut I was very concerned at how short she was making it. So two more times I reminded her that curly hair is shorter when dry. She just kept cutting off my hair. 2 of the other stylists were casually watching and I could see them subtly cringing every time she made a cut, because they knew she was going way to short , and they could tell I was close to tears.
I had to push back my wedding by 3 years. It was cut so short in the back (like only 1 inch long) that I couldn’t even get extension if I were willing to.

At the appointment Mary said she had been cutting hair for 30 years. Sounds like the same Mary! She didn’t seem to have any appointments that day, but all of the other stylists were booked solid. Now I know why. And my name isn’t in their database because of course my last name isn’t really “Banana” ?♀️.

This a convenient friendly spot to get my cut and color by a true artist of a stylist, Marcie. Since I’m a senior still recovering from a major medical situation last year, she knew how to treat my hair and scalp as changed by continuing medications. She also knew how to make my most wanted wish come true - purple hair color - without damage to my hair, scalp, or ego. I get some many compliments on both color and cut from both residents and staff in my assisted living facility that I wish Marcie could hear. Marcie is a genius and a sweetheart all rolled into one.

I used to go to the Fairfax and Vienna Hair Cuttery locations before this, but after a series of botched hair cuts from those locations, I started coming to Deena from Oakton about 10 years ago, and I come in every 3 months. I struggle a lot with dandruff and frizz, but Deena works patiently to add the deep-conditioning treatment to my hair, and provides recommendations on hair care at home, including Miracle 10 and Cibu. Unlike some of my previous stylists who just wanted to get the job done, Deena really cares about the health of your hair, and has suggested types of cuts to address the damage in my hair, while maintaining my preferred aesthetic for keeping my hair long at the front. Unlike the other stylists I went to before this, my haircut has been to maintain its style for days, or even weeks, and my hair health has gotten a lot better since coming here. Just be sure to book an appointment in advance as Deena does get really busy due to her popularity.I've been coming here for 10 years now, so I definitely would refer Deena to anyone looking to get a haircut, especially if your hairy is like mine and a bit on the wavy side.

Had a fast and nice visit during my lunch break for a hair trim. From going into the door and out to my car took total about 40min? The usual sit and explain my wants, shampoo and conditioner, and the trim. She did exactly what I asked. It was shorter than I expected but I did have a lot of split ends/dead hair that she cut off so I'm actually glad she did- after the haircut I definitely felt the weight of my head much lighter haha and have gotten so many compliments on my hair! Thank you! Will return for trims and maybe a color soon! :)

I've tried many places through the years, and overjoyed to have found Mary! It's not only the fact that she has a genuine caring for each of her clients, it's the fact she takes the time to listen AND then follow-through w/what we want! She truly has met & exceeded my expectations each time I go there. With my visits being on the longer side, (due to deep conditioning treatments / color treatments), I can honestly report it isn't only Mary that exudes these positive traits. I have consistently witnessed the other stylists interacting in the same way w/their regular clients! Alternatively, when my head is back in the sink, it is then I'm only able to 'hear' dialogue. Even then, it's rather easy to pick up the positive tones in new clients' voices as they interact w/a stylist. I can hear the stylist repeating back to them what type of cut they want, etc. More often than not, once I'm back in the chair (located at the front), I'm able to see the final product, the client's satisfaction, and next appointments being made before the person leaves. Overall, a great place, attentive stylists, but not ridiculous prices!!
