My uncle was admitted through the ER on Monday. He had a bad accident due to blacking out from medication they prescribed him for cancer. They admitted him and left him in the ER from about 3 pm until later that day. He was not given a hospital gown and socks or anything .They finally put him in a decent room. Then lied and said they were moving him to another room and they put him in a hall way on the 6th floor with a curtain in front of the nurses station. It's fragrant of discrimination the way that he was treated. I wonder if that would have been done to an old white man? I doubt it. The medical field is full of racism and has disgusting history of it over time. I wish they still had Norfolk Community Hospital. At least when we had that hospital in our community we got better service. I called in a complaint to the patient services department and spoke to Shannon and got my Uncle moved to a suitable room. The charge nurse of was no help. Her name was Kaylee on 6th floor. Then by Wednesday they started badgering my uncle about who I was when I left a message on their vm. They never card me back. I called again and the person Jenna never returned my call. Then I had to call again and I finally spoke to her. Then she didn't want to own what happened. She made excuses for the staff that messed up.

Slower than Moses. Waited 6 hours. They ran about 4 test. All came back negative. Never told me anything but my levels were abnormal. Left with them telling me nothing seemed wrong. Complete waste of time

Jonathan R. Mann, M.D. 301 Riverview Ave #710 First and foremost I am very dissatisfied with the Front Dest, Doctor Man and his whole team. Two months ago my mother booked a first time patient appointment due to her primary doctor retired. Appointment was scheduled for today August 15, 2023. She went for her appointment the front Desk receptionist informed us her appointment is not scheduled until August 15, 2024. When we made the appointment, the young lady scheduled appointment for August 15, 2023 however, they said it was scheduled for 2024. While booking the appointment, they were aware of the retirement of the previous doctor, and they was aware of her medical history, Nevertheless they were informed that she was having Familia complications. Which made it an urgent matter, scheduling her 2 months out. NOT 1 YEAR AND 2 MONTHS!!!! Insane!!!!! Let's start by saying that my mother is a cancer survivor, which is currently having issues, and we are afraid that her cancer may have came back. There was only one person inside the clinic, and we asked can we be seeing the young lady said no we can see you next year This is totally unacceptable. My mom could be dead by 2024. There was no remorse no sympathy nothing. My mom was extremely upset, she couldn't do anything but walk away in tears. We are very devastated and my mother is extremely upset and sick. Now she has to deal with complications and back at square one trying to figure out how to get her a primary care doctor as soon as possible who will look at her history and go from there. This appointment was preplanned upon her primary care doctor, retiring. I do not recommend this doctor nor his establishment, and I will report this to every review channel From a broken daughter's heart pleading for help for her mother.

In the era of COVID, I've managed to somehow not catch it...but this is the second time in 16 months that I've gotten pneumonia. I came in thinking (and hoping) it was just an uncontrollable panic attack. But after checking my oxygen saturation at home, I knew it wasn't just a panic attack. I get to the ER around 4:00pm, and am immediately helped into a wheelchair because I can't even walk. I am then rushed to the front desk, where they confirm my oxygen is 70%... and then I am put into a bay so that they can put me on a non rebreather mask at 15 liters of oxygen. Despite the fear I was having, my ER team was efficient and soothing. Dr. Shaffer, the resident, had such a comforting bedside manner. Her communication with me the entire time I was in the ED was wonderful. My ER nurses were good, though I had so many of them it's hard to keep track of everyone's name. I didn't like where they placed my IVs, they were painful. And I'm not a "hard stick". Because I was so out of breath, I couldn't get up to urinate. So I was given a PureWick, which didn't work. I ended up sleeping the entire night in my own urine because of the amount of diuretics I was given. I finally got admitted and into a room nearly 24 hours after staying in the ED. Not acceptable! My back hurts so bad from staying in that stretcher. I was taken to step down on the 10th floor. My nurse Dee was easy to talk to and very caring. At this point, I was starving and unfortunately no one from downstairs mentioned that I don't eat meat. So when dinner came, I had to pick out the noodles from my soup just to eat a couple morsels. The next morning, the dietary supervisor was dropping off trays and took the time to take my order. Throughout my stay, I was bombarded with medication every few hours. This made it hard to rest. But again, my nurses were kind and considerate. Queeta was very sweet during the day, and I was so thankful for her. Alexis, my night nurse, was also kind and considerate enough to bring extra sheets for my son, who has spent every night with me. No one ever wants to get stuck in the hospital, but 10k is a good unit to get stuck in.

My brother had back surgery a few days ago. The staff were very professional, helpful and friendly. The surgery team was the best. Heidi the anesthesiologist explained the process from beginning to end - she is the best. Dr. Adkins and his P.A. Amber were awesome, their skill and bedside manner were second to none. The nurses in the River wing post op care were courteous and professional (with just a few exceptions). Emma, Dee, Trista, Althea, Azura, Peyton, Rebecca, Darius, and Kim were so caring and helpful throughout his stay. They took care of my brother J.J. so well - his recovery is going great. He keeps saying the staff still owes him money for his walk-abouts around the floor. Really we were treated well by all the staff from the time we checked in at the front desk, the SPAR registration desk, in the cafeteria, the coffee shop, even in the hallway when we would get lost- staff and/or doctors would ask - can I help you or do you need help? Our experience at Sentara was exceptional! However, the reviews have me worried about Wesley M's friend. I pray he is well, what is the update?

I ended up going here on a Tuesday for a TB test at the River Pavilion Lab. For me, the layouts of hospitals and their parking lots can be very confusing but this one was quiet intimidating. Instead of circling the buildings trying to find an empty parking space, there was a CHKD visitor parking garage that I just decided to park in. The ladies working at the front desk seemed to be a little bit irritable. Just as I was about to grab a paper copy of what looked like a map/layout of the hospital, the lady that was helping me interrupted me before I grabbed one and told me that she'd tell me the location in a second. My thoughts, "What if I was going to grab one for other reasons or to have a better mental layout of where everything is?" So I ended up leaving the paper on the counter and just repeated the directions she told me as I walked around (which were kind of incorrect) The ladies at the River Pavilion front desk were super nice and helpful. The lab had a bit of a wait but everyone was being helped efficiently. Looking around, you can see that the waiting room was clean and well maintained. When it was my turn, the gentleman working there checked me in for my test, I waited for maybe 10 mins, and then I was called to the registration area. I forgot her name but the woman plugging in all of my information was so sweet! After we were done with the registration, I signed all my forms, waited another 10 mins, and then I was called back for my test. Now to the test part. Maybe it was because I didn't drink as much water as I thought or maybe it was just really tough to find my vein but I was wondering why it was taking so long for my blood to fill up the tube. While the person was searching for their cotton pads to put over it and pull the needle out, the needle kept going further into my arm and it was a pretty long needle. As soon as I got home I went to check the spot she drew blood from because it hurt and there was a hematoma ): -- slight swelling on my arm, bruising around, and of course what's pictured --I'm used to getting blood drawn but never had that happen. It's been almost 2 weeks and my arm is still recovering from it. The whole process was fast and everyone was friendly at Sentara Norfolk General but for me, there's so much going on as far as buildings and parking goes. The whole facility inside and out is kept clean and they offer transportation around the centers in their little vehicles too.

I was very apprehensive when I was scheduled for testing that could only be done at the main building of Norfolk General. My late husband had been hospitalized there for about 3 weeks. So I knew of the parking horrors: full close lot & distant parking garage that's also used by CHKD & EVMS. The doctors office was "pretty sure" they had valet parking at the Kaufman entrance. But I had a doctor appointment to quickly follow at the Heart Hospital, which is in a different location in the complex. My dilemma was solved by having a friend drop me off at the Kaufman entrance then drive to the valet parking at the Heart Hospital where she could wait. They couldn't have been nicer at the check in desk. There was no line and plentiful seating. It wasn't as new and glitzy as Leigh but there was plenty of room to social distance. My technician also couldn't have been nicer. After performing the procedure she took me in a wheelchair all the way from the testing area to my doctor's office on the 6th floor of the Heart Hospital. It was service with a smile. I wouldn't hesitate to have further testing or Blood Work done at the main hospital This review is only for their testing. The rating isn't applicable to my late husband's hospitalization, their Palliative Care or Emergency Room. That was quite a different experience.

I went into the emergency room for muscle stiffness, cramps, and twitching, due to my anxiety. I also expressed that I have depression and have been having suicidal thoughts. It took them two hours to get me back for blood, then three more hours of waiting before I decided to walk out because they had no idea how much longer I could be waiting to speak with a counselor. I begged multiple times for help, was willing to voluntarily commit myself, and yet was not made a priority. Everytime I asked how much longer, I got shrugs and told "no idea." I asked the nurse twice for muscle relaxers to calm down my muscle stiffness, and was told she would ask the doctor, but I never heard anything back. I had to resort to pacing around the waiting room just to calm myself down. I am doing everything I can to push away these bad thoughts, but if something happens to me, this emergency room is a contributing factor to it. Stay far away! They won't help you.

oh boy, i never learn... first time my primary care doc sent me here for an x-ray i signed in, waited long enough to fall asleep, woke up 2 hours later to discover nobody had called, looked, and that nobody had even put my name in the system. 6 years later (with a few visits in between), i go for an x-ray. empty waiting room, somebody i can't see yells "fill out the form and leave it upside down on the desk!" i do. 2 hours later guess what? went somewhere else. don't even ask me about the time i thought i was having a heart attack (i'm 60+ so you know...it happens). alcove in a hall, 5 hours later dr. shows up. my advice: if you're bleeding from the eyes and this is the only choice- die in the street. its cheaper, faster and less painful.

This review is for the Gift Shop only. I live out of state but wanted to buy some flowers, balloons, stuffed animal and a care package for my family that was in the hospital. Brenda, in the gift shop was absolutely AMAZING! I told her what I wanted, and she would describe what they had on hand. She spent so much time helping me to get the perfect gifts for my loved ones. Everything was delivered 30 minutes later! And, I was told that everything was great. Brenda and the gift shop helped to make this an even nicer day for me and my family.

Hubby hadn't been feeling well for the past week. And waiting to get into seeing doctors was a nightmare. Hubby first went to UrgentCare and they told him it was possibly 2 things wrong. They treated him for the lesser of 2 evils, and it only gave temporary relief. But after a while the relief no longer worked. The other problem was what the doctor suggested. So hubby made an appointment with our doctor, and she sent him to the nearest specialist on duty that day and they were working at the Sentara General Hospital emergency room. It took us a while to get into seeing the doctor, unfortunately I had to leave to take care of our dog. He hadn't been outside to go to the bathroom all day long. And we had been to the doctors office since 7:45 until 12:30. I knew that he had to go, hubby and I both agreed for me to come home and take care of the dog. I stayed in touch with my husband until I couldn't get through. It turned out that they got cat scans done and was prepping him for minor surgery. He told me to stay home so that I would be there when the kid got home. He feels better now, but he has healing time to deal with. Thank you Sentara General for being there. When we first moved here, your hospital saved me from a detached retina, then years later you made my husbands life better because he needed minor surgery.
