Drove an hour and a half, only to get there and tell me that I could not see the dog. They do not answer phones, and the woman sitting at the front desk doing nothing could not answer any questions.

Wonderful shelter! We adopted a senior cat from here and the volunteers were so welcoming and helpful. They also sent us home with a small bag of food so we could help adjust him to another brand. I will definitely recommend this shelter to others.

A wonderful place to adopt a new pet. My wife and I have adopted numerous furry friends and will no doubt return. They care about their charges kindly. The adoption fees are very modest. My highest recommendation.

This place killed my friends cat and kittens. She took momma and babies there for help because she wasnt experienced with stray cat and newborns(5kittens). She trusted them with professional care. My friend called every week to check on them and would always get a positive statement. My friend went into the facility to check on them and was told that the cats were put down 3 DAYS AGO. She really cared and wanted to keep the kitties. Since then, Nobody called my friend to let her know or even to see if she wanted to see them before the execution. There a lot of questions and no answers that make any sense. We found out through a pamphlet from the desk clerk on the virus.they could have saved the momma and kittens. My friend IS ,devastated, hurt, heartbroken, you name it. To this day nobody has reached out to her. This place was unprofessional, had lack of compassion and just wreckers. I know this place has lost any respect from any of us.....never again. Lesson learned...

Wouldn’t adopt front them the animals are in horrible condition and are sick they lie to you about how their well-being is so you can adopt just for the animal to have serious problems.

We adopted our guinea pig here and the adoption center staff were all very helpful and kind! It is very clean and set up well and there are so many adorable animals who are all being well taken care of until they can find their furrever homes. Thank you for helping us find our new furbaby!

If I could give negative stars I would. These people are uncaring, heartless, condescending, and rude. Especially the people at the front desk. Their administration is a mess. They don't care about animals. They care about adoption fees. They abuse and take advantage of the volunteers and ghost anyone who has a question or a complaint. Adopt your pet from ANYWHERE ELSE!

I’m not this kind of person but I need to put this out . Me and my husband Zachary Marsteller went through a loss recently and decided to adopt a dog in remembrance of the loss. We found this sweet baby, Bentley / Zeke . We decided to adopt him , we were told he had kennel cough and that they knew nothing else other than that he came from GA. After 3 days of bringing him home he was running , playing with toys, and just adored us. He would follow you everywhere ; he would even sit in the bathroom with me while I showered. We did notice after giving him the medication they gave us for his kennel cough he still wasn’t eating as much as he should have been . So we called the adoption center we got him from and explained our concerns. Rudely they stated he needed to come in immediately because he might have pneumonia?!? With how our schedules were that week we couldn’t make it anytime. During that week he seemed to get stronger and actually started to eat more. After that week had pasted we had a way to take him to the vet . Surprisingly that morning he went to the vet he finished a whole bowl of food for the first time. After he went to the vet (mind you it was the adoption centers vet) they called back saying he needed to go to the emergency vet immediately but they said THEY would cover any cost for him to get better that they were sure he had pneumonia. So that’s what we did. They never mentioned he has ever had pneumonia but funny enough they posted that he was adopted on there Facebook page and it stated he had pneumonia when they received him?!? Weird? The emergency vet said they needed to keep him over night because he can not breath on his own? Weird. So the next day we get a call that he does in fact have pneumonia and the adoption center will NOT cover the cost because it’s to much? And that he will be put down.. ?!?! And since the dog is still Norfolk Animal Care Center property we can not take him home or take him somewhere else . Nor can we have any other options. But they did say they would pay to have him cremated.. okay thanks I guess. They were susposed to call us yesterday for us to come get him …. Havent heard anything . His name was ZEKE , he didn’t deserve this , nor did we ! I will never adopt from here nor recommend them to anyone .

Just wanted to take a moment to thank all the staff at the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center. I adopted my beautiful little shih tzu from here and I was so impressed with the cleanliness and efficiency of the center and the professionalism and loving care of the staff. I would highly recommend the center to anyone looking to foster or adopt a pet.

This is my favorite area shelter, they often have adoption specials that include all shots, heartworm testing, and neutering. They also have guinea pigs, rabbits and I've even seem rats and pigs for adoption.
