I had a disappointing experience returning my Avis car at the Norfolk airport because of an employee who didn’t give proper customer service when checking in my vehicle. Instead of directing me correctly she talked about me with her coworker making me feel unimportant. When I tried getting assistance from another staff member at the desk it also turned negative due to sarcastic responses leaving me feeling frustrated.

Avis has been my preferred rental car provider for 25 years! Reasonable prices, always have a good car.I was in a 2024 Nissan rogue, and the only tricky part was, it was not clear how to put the car in reverse. If you happen to get one, there’s a little button on the driver side of the gearshift that you have to click first to put it into reverse. Everything else was great! I checked the glove compartment to see if there was a user guide and there was not but luckily I googled it.

I had reserved a specific size car (Ford escape) to use on this travel based on one traveler and gas consumption. I arrived at the airport on time (listed in the rental notification) and they did not have my car as promised. They tried to give me a FOUR Door Dodge Ram pickup. The truck was not clean and a gas hog of a truck. I refused this car and they gave me a mini van still WAY outside what I needed. It was ALSO FILTHY inside the car. The person at the desk did not have ANYONE's car they reserved. I counted 6 other people waiting for their automobile while I was there. How can a rental company not keep the agreed upon vehicle for anyone? That is your actual job to do exactly that.

I reserved a car for pickup in Hampton, VA. At the time of my scheduled pickup I was advised they did not have any cars for me to rent. I was then told to take another UBER 25 minutes to an airport to get a car. By the time I got to the airport it was 2:10pm, my $77.69 ended up getting upcharged to $100.93. My drop off location was in Annapolis, MD. That office closed at 1pm and did not have a night Dropbox. (It shares a Avis/Budget location. Budget did have a Dropbox). I was then instructed to drop the car 21 miles away at BWI.AVIS Can’t get their act together!!! Never again will I rent from AVIS/Budget

Do not have the capacity to handle demand. If you want to wait 2 hours to get your car rent from this Avis.

We have rented multiple times from Avis with great service and experience. We had a problem car this time and had to repeat the problem to customer service after the call was dropped and no one called back. Then customer service had an attitude because I couldn’t leave a funeral to go back to the airport for a new car. And said, “I’m in the call center, I can’t come bring you a new car”. The customer service experience left a lot to be desired and were content with leaving the issue unresolved. If it wasn’t for past experiences I wouldn’t use Avis again.

I’ve rented with Avis Budget a few times and every time it is the same story. Long lines, like the 2-3 hour long line. Poor or no customer service. This particular day I tried to rent a car. I had a reservation and when I was next in line someone came in to tell everyone left in line that there were no more cars left. I don’t understand how there is still a business left.

I have Avis Preferred, which should give me the option of upgrading. However that was not available via the app. When I went to pick up my car, I asked if I can upgrade to a different SUV, the guy very rudely spitted out “what ya want?” I have no idea what’s on your lot, how am I supposed to know what is available? I asked again “do you have a different SUV?” Without even looking it up or checking, he said no and handed me my keys. I understand it was late at night but it was just rude customer service. The ladies that I dropped the car off with were awesome and very helpful though.
