I love Mount Vernon! The people who work here are very passionate about their work and very friendly. I'm a big history nerd, but even if you're not big into history, it's a wonderful time.

Amazing experience to visit the home of our nation's first president. The tour includes the home, surrounding quarters, the farm, gardens, fishing dock, and the museum exhibits. There is a nice gift shop, food court, and restaurant.

12/15/23 evening event was great. From the decorations, lighting, concessionaires, exhibits, demonstrations to the finale fireworks over The Potomac. Great atmosphere and crowd. A question/answer time with George and Martha was quaint, informative and fun!!! The reenactors were wonderful. I highly recommend to put on your calendar for next year. Tickets sell out quickly so that says it all!

This was a bit of a hike outside of DC - about 30 minutes, but the drive was beautiful and along the Potomac River. Note that there is Washington's Mount Vernon Estate, but there's also a town of Mount Vernon right beside it, so make sure you're putting the right location in your navigation tool. The Estate itself was good - the museum and shops looked fairly new and were full of information and fun souvenirs. We went on one of the shorter guided tours through the mansion and it ran about 20-25 minutes. Unfortunately there wasn't much information about the Washingtons themselves on the tour - it was mostly about what was in the rooms. We also kind of expected some actors/ employees to be dressed up in period pieces during the tour as we've seen this on other similar tours, but that wasn't the case here. Nevertheless, the tour was informative and the guides were kind and kept things on track. The rest of the estate can be viewed on your own, and the maps provided in the information centre are very detailed.I did feel really bad for the camel that lives on the estate. It looked miserable and cold.

A really nice place to visit, both the house and the grounds are nice to walk around. The house can be seen from the inside when booking a tour however, it is more a walkthrough than a proper guided tour, bet nevertheless still very nice to see. The garden and surrounding areas are beautiful and well kept and give some additional information about the history of the house, the people who lived there and how all was used in the time. The museum is very interesting and very nicely laid out and well worth the visit as well. There is plenty of parking when not visiting during the high season.

We went on a day when it was raining and still stayed for 8 hours. While the mansion tour was lovely, the grounds of Mount Vernon are really spectacular! We loved all the little buildings and history and stories behind them. We caught a music demonstration and a reenactment of one of Martha's slaves. The quotes by George and Martha on the grounds were also interesting. I bought a book in the gift shop (amazingly large with unique items) to get to know them better. The museum is fantastic. The 4D movie was my favorite. And we ate at the restaurant-- it was so delicious. I definitely want to visit again!

The admission fee is $26 per person, including the museums, the maison visit and a tour. The entire space is huge, including a farm, stables, and a great view over the Potomac. The mansion itself is well-maintained. We could see authentic arrangement of the Washington family. The tour guides are well trained, sharing interesting stories without being overwhelming. This is my go-to whenever I’m hosting friends around DC.

Really cool experience with the VIP private guided tour. Our tour guide has worked here for well over 20 years and her attention to detail and explanation was apparent. This was our 2nd time visiting Mount Vernon but this experience was worth every penny! We were able to experience so many new things on the tour that were not obvious on our first visit (self tour) It was also great to see places that were under construction to refurbish and make sturdy and safe again for visitors that we couldn't see a few years back. We finished up our tour with brunch in the restaurant with our large party of 9. Brunch was great and on this hot day in August the endless lemonade was very refreshing and appreciated!

We had an amazing time. The site is so large you can come back multiple times and not experience everything. Everything is well maintained with lots of signage to provide background details. The musician demonstrating all the instruments was outstanding.

First time coming here, and it was a lot. I was not prepared. You can buy tickets online or at the door. Lots of walking and a lot of history here. We easily spent 3 hours and I felt like we needed more time. I did appreciate all the benches throughout the grounds. There Alot of uneven pathways as well as stairs. So be mindful when looking at the map. I didn't get to go to the distillery or the other off-site places as I didn't have time.. here are some photos. I had a hard time uploading to Yelp, so i couldn't upload everything.

Absolutely fantastic! I visited here 33 years ago and this visit was far and above the better of the two. However, the reason it was so great is that my son and I sprang for the "National Treasure" tour. Our tour guide, who I believe was named Matthew, was absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable and friendly.I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

This place is amazing! Can't imagine what these walls have seen or heard. We bought upgraded tickets for a 1 hour $60 tour inside the mansion. It was worth it! It was a long way from our DC rental and we struggled getting a ride which made us miss the first half of the tour. I called on our way, explained the situation and the nice gentleman I spoke to on the phone gave me the option of joining a later tour, getting a full credit for later use or to join the tour when we arrived. We opted for the 3rd and when we arrived, the entire staff at every point saw to it that we didn't miss out! After the group finished, our guide took us back and showed us what we missed, explaining everything in great detail.Incredible customer service! The grounds are stunning! Inside the home you'll see exactly what it looked like 250+ years ago when Washington & his wife/family resided there. Original pieces and personal artifacts can be seen throughout the home & grounds. Both are buried onsite, near the garden that is still used for donations & meals next door at the Inn restaurant. The stories, beauty of each room and history of these grounds will impress you. It's a hike out there but one you shouldn't miss!

It was 30 years but so worth the wait… after a massive renovation- including A/C Mount Vernon is back to the way it was in 1799 - including the correct color apparently! Yeah! All the wood exterior panels were painted - then coated in SAND! Genius! It made all the beveled wood look like sandstone!Ohhhh… don’t forget the HUGE new space including theaters and interactive exhibits. Such a great learning experience for kids and adults. Don’t forget to hike down to the 16-sided barn/grain house and pioneer town. There’s even livestock on site.
