I stayed at West Maryland state park 11 days and it was just wonderful. The campground had a laundry which made my life infinitely easier. Wonderful bird watching. We're very friendly with my dogs the restaurant is more clean than that plumbing a hot water

I am very impressed with the cabins at this state park! It was clean and exceeded my expectations. There are numerous activities to enjoy, including kayaking, hiking, fishing, swimming, playgrounds, and fossil hunting! The park is conveniently located within 15-30 minutes of gas stations and several restaurants. The visitor center has very accommodating staff, making check-in and check-out easy. Overall, it was a great experience!

Went on a Friday so it was $7 entrance fee. It's a really nice park with plenty of picnic areas and nice beach areas. We went to fossil beach and let our kids dig and sift around for a few hours. It's a gorgeous location and nice little beach. It wasn't crowded when we were there but there isn't a whole lot of room if it gets too busy. Went to the visitor center afterwards and got ice creams to eat out at the picnic tables to cool off and relax.

So awesome! Clean and well maintained. We found a few shark teeth. It was not overly crowded for a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The trail to the beach was clear and wide and pretty easy going. We will definitely be back!

Great place to relax. Camping grounds are great and affordable. Even though the fossil beach was closed off and the regular beach access seemed to be also. I did have a good time. Was able to do some Geocaching in the park, there was a couple of them I had a hard time finding. Maybe it was the heat that was a factor, but one was because the road was closed. But one downside is the camping spots do not have sewer connections. They have a sewer dump in another area. So if you plan to stay there, for a week or so, bring a honeypot ( portable sewer tank).Playground: It has a playground for the kids to play.Restrooms: Usually stocked and clean. Showers are available alsoDog-friendliness: Great for the pups. Be sure to pick up after them.Picnic area: Plenty of picnic areas.

We love this park. Unfortunately, it seems the park is getting old. The pool was closed, and I'm not sure if it is for undefined time. The convenience store was totally empty. It's a great place for family, especially if you like to camp out

we had an awesome time staying in Cabin 2. It’s clean, cute, and built by the CCC in 36.pros:- fossil beach. we didn’t find any shark teeth but it was fun to look for them! i found a baby crab and some little fossils. i recommend bringing a colander and being prepared to get wet at the beach (we weren’t).- the “efficiency” cabin is still an awesome cabin! it’s advertised as cinderblock, but it’s an authentic log cabin. fully renovated kitchen and bathroom, both of which featuring copper fixtures to add to the vibe.- trails. all the trails were well maintained and had scenic views. despite only having about 15 miles in trails, it was still awesome and pet friendly.- wildlife. if you want to find some osprey or waterfowl, this is the park for that! deer hang out in the open fields in the park and can be seen during the day.- helpful signs. tree ID, butterfly info, trail maps, etc were all legible and easy to read- quiet and dark. the cabins are so so so quiet, quiet enough that our yappy dogs never barked at anything. all the curtains in the cabins are blackout and awesome if you’re trying to take a nap in the middle of the day.- interpreters. all the park interpreters (we only ever saw Ranger Luna) were very friendly and helpful. The programs were on the “fun” - less educational - side, but that’s okay!- cell service. it seemed to work everywhere.cons:- it seems like everything was closed! the pool is closed, the cliffside cabins are closed, the camp store would randomly be closed throughout the day. i think this park has seen better days, but still had a bunch of visitors everyday we were here.- we think our cabin had fleas. not a big deal, they’re hard to get rid of and i wouldn’t expect perfect conditions from a cabin in a park. i got eaten up by them every night sleeping on the couch since we had three people.- fishing in the freshwater pond is spotty. i had my fly rod and only caught bluegill, but i love catching those suckers so it’s alright. the pond had hundreds of red eared sliders, so if you like to nature watch or chill on picnic tables, the pond is perfect and a short walk. lots of frogs too!

Walking down the 3/4 mile trail through the woods to Fossil Beach at 530AM to catch the sunrise was incredible. The bad part is the walk at 530AM.Nothing like a remote beach except when you need to carry everything down the hill with you. Water isn't exactly the cleanest, but I've def seen worse. It might take a while but you can find some cool fossilized shark teeth, bone fragments and occasionally a vert.

Small state park not many trails to walk, some good views of the water. Fissile beach trail not easily accessible for people that have limited mobility.

If you're into finding shark's teeth and fossils, this is defentily a place to visit. Easy hike to Fossil beach from Big Meadow Trail. The trail is .6 miles. They have camping grounds as well. The visitor center is very nice and has two different snakes on display. They offer a junior ranger program as well.Restrooms: The restrooms were clean.Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcome here.

The beach was very crowded on this day. It is a family beach. There were several families or groups having picnics and cooking on the grills. The beach area is not very large, but was sufficient. If you like kids, this is the best pace for you.

Be prepared for a 10 or so min walk from the parking lot to Fossil Beach. It’s a popular place for families, has a cool tributary that you can pan for sharks teeth. It has a visitors center with gifts, snacks and local history. There’s cabins for rent and a campground.

Virginia State Park in Montross, Virginia. It overlooks the Potomac River and Maryland. It has numerous hiking trails, boat ramp area, fishing pond area, and a main beach swim area as well. Scenic cliff views, and a beach area designated for fossil hunting and marsh. I observed woodpeckers at work, high in the talll over growth trees. Peak starts April, year round entrance fee to park.Restrooms: The Visitor Center has public restrooms available during business hours.Picnic area: Picnic area has tables and shelter scattered along the main beach shoreline.
