Really enjoyed my stay at Salamander Resort & Spa. I will say I wasn't too pleased to see construction happening near the entrance of this beautiful resort, but all goods things must come to an end. I digress. The primary reason I am providing SR&S a 5-stars is not so much the amenities but the service of all the Resort's staff. Each were welcoming and did their very best to show supreme hospitality. The standout service, however, goes to Mabel (shop) and Virginia Huntley (concierge service) who went well out their way to ensure I was taken care of while at SR&S and they deserve the highest praise and respect. I'll be back to reward them and others.

My visit to Salamander was not a stay this time, but for a special reunion, and I have to say, this is a Sweet Escape! Nestled in Virginia’s own wine country, surrounded by lush green trees, fields, vineyards, and courtyards, the Five Star rating from Forbes is absolutely well justified! The service in the restaurant from host staff to bar tender, food and drinks were exquisite! I toured the grounds, the spa, and the special venues which were well kept and manicured, accompanied with a friendly, attentive staff. Salamander offers world class luxury in this hidden gem of Middleburg, near The Plains, and Marshall, right outside of Washington, D.C. I visited all three and each one is beautifully quaint, and inviting for all! Local, homemade, can’t find it anywhere else sort of things! This is a place where I shall have my wedding!

Attended a wedding there. The appetizers and dinner was mediocre. I was told the hotel made the cakes. There were 3 different cakes: white, yellow and red velvet. The red velvet was moist and the other 2 cakes were dry. The customer service was ok. The facility was nice.

Second time staying here. The first time we were upgraded to an estate room- thought that was so nice. This time we brought our dog and are staying in the terrace rooms- hello! These are not a downgrade, they are just as fabulous. I actually prefer the terrace, being able to walk right out onto these gorgeous grounds is fantastic. The terrace is so private. I love this entire resort. Everyone is so friendly. This place has great energy, I’m so happy here. Having our dog with us makes it feel like home, it’s so awesome that they allow pets. We only live ~ 30 minutes from here but it’s such a fun getaway that the whole family looks forward to.

We will see how the next two nights go, but first night here things like the pool and other services are closed. They have run out of food items on their various menus. There isn’t even a hair dryer in the room. Then there are beds. You might as well sleep on a concrete floor. For the price you pay here you would expect the service to be top notch, but not so.I’ve had better service and comfort at almost interstate highway hotels. Food is just ok. Not close to your favorite steakhouses or fine dining.

Pretty underwhelming experience. Some of the staff is friendly, others not so much.Note, when we stayed there was no power, food, pool, spa, hot water, etc. for 3+ days due to a storm. Regardless of that, there is constant noise considering the rooms are located in the middle of a construction site. Compensation was mediocre at best. The entire resort seemed wildly unprepared, and there was no formal policy in place for dealing with this type of natural disaster.Extremely overrated resort, nightly room rates should be nowhere near what they are. The suites are nothing special, they are simply standard hotel rooms, with a bunch of trendy snacks, listed for an obscene price.Would recommend staying at any of the historic inns throughout Middleburg instead of Salamander. Save money at a different hotel and then use your time to explore downtown.

I stayed there 3/18/22. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because there was hair on the shower wall that was there beforehand. I feel we are paying good money, it should have been clean. And the steam shower was still broken in the spa (not as big of a deal though). The restaurant (room service) and the spa totally made up for our unhappiness with the shower not being clean. The room service is phenomenal! Super fast service and accurate. Nice, hot, and delicious food! Yum! Everything is definitely farm fresh or at least it seems. The spa treats you like a queen. I was there for my birthday this time, and Christine T. gave me the seasonal awakening treatment (winter). She was so amazing and kind. She made sure to apply just the right amount of pressure. She listened to me and it was very relaxing. I really like how she made me feel comfortable as well (I have social anxiety). I've been to many spas and she is by far the best massage therapist I have ever encountered. I will be going back because of her and the great food!

The spa is an absolutely astounding experience. The facilities were spotlessly clean, the staff were kind and accommodating, and the treatments were worth every penny. Go for the couples massage but plan time to stay in the infinity pool and stream room. You won't be disappointed.

The room and facilities were great. But the billing service was terrible! My wife and I came into the resort with a $2500 gift card which we provided during date registration. We also purchased a breakfast package, expecting it to be deducted from our $2500 credit. Our cost was totally messed up at check out! Had a column for credits and debits. The one item in the credits column did not even have the $2500 amount. It was approximately $300 less. The prepaid breakfast package was not included. We figured for the amount of lodging days and activities booked, we would have a gap to cover lunch and dinner. Everything was charged to our room to make to "easy" for the total. Complete mistake. Don't think we will be returning any time soon. There is still a $54 charge pending on my card that no one at the resort can explain. Is has been three weeks. All I can say is watch your money!! The grounds and rooms were outstanding. Would have easily been a five star review.

We stayed here on my Birthday getaway and it was an awesome experience. Beautiful resort and we had an amazing dining experience. Staff have excellent customer service and food was excellent. Top notch Chefs. Wish the photo is so much better but I love my little personalized bday dessert too. What a touch. Thank you for the lovely memory.

We had a fabulous family trip. 4 nights and 5 days — it was perfect. Incredible suite, lovely room with plenty of space, fantastic food, great kids activities. The kids absolutely love the Salamander. They did a pony ride (huge hit), swam everyday, played in the game room daily. Lots of great walks and hikes. Lovely local vineyards. All around a 10/10 experience!

the facility is nice but what you get for the money is no better than a hilton or marriott. our rate was $1000+ a night and on either side of the reservation it was $640+. i use the "+" because they tack on 22%. restaurant was unavailable so be happy with bar food. we won't be returning.

We had lunch with friends on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in the bar. I love the setting and the casual elegance of the resort, but the bar food is just barely average. The food is so expensive that you would expect it to be extra special. Really, it is very disappointing. I will go back for a glass of wine and maybe an appetizer, but stay away from the overpriced, disappointing food.

We’ve stayed at the Salamander before and just cancelled our upcoming trip. The service is stunningly bad for such an expensive resort. They have an awful habit of allowing large groups to rent out significant portions of the resort on busy weekends. Last time we went, half of the lounge areas were reserved for some corporate retreat (on a busy holiday weekend). This time, they allowed a single group to rent out virtually the entire spa on a Saturday in the middle of the holiday season. (They offered us a massage at the well known preferred spa time of 7:30 pm.) At bottom, this place prices itself as if it’s a Ritz, Four Seasons, etc., but the service is consistently lousier than any of those counterparts. At no point during my previous stays or during the planning of this one did I feel like I was dealing with a “luxury” resort. Cancelled and rebooked elsewhere.

We did not have a great experience at the salamander gift shop. The hotel is beautiful but at the gift shop, we felt uncomfortable. The employee attempted to guilt trip us into buying a kids book that we were looking a three times. We told her multiple times that we were just browsing but she didn’t pay attention and suggested us to to either buy something or get out. It seemed to us that she thought we were shop lifting even though we told her that we were just looking around!! The store and items were great but the service was poor and ruined our experience. Would not recommend.
