I just had an AMAZING experience at Dorn's! Put a form in for a free estimate online, someone reached out and helped me schedule for the next day. The office was clean and the staff was professional. Cooper greeted me promptly and took a look at my car. He was friendly and professional. Took the time to evaluate the car and was knowledgeable about his work. My damage was minor and he was able to fix it on the spot! Thank you Cooper and his team for a great experience :)

This is my go-to place to bring my Teslas. I initially went here in 2021 to get my Tesla Model Y repaired after an auto accident. I worked closely with Clay in collision, body, and paint. Clay was very helpful; he answered my questions and kept me updated throughout the process. The repairs went great, and my car looked brand new. After my experience with collision, body, and paint, I began bringing my car and my husband's Tesla Model S to the mechanical side and working with Tony. Tony has helped me with flat tire repairs, providing emergency roadside assistance, and is my go-to place for car work outside of Tesla. My service is always excellent and completed promptly. This summer, I needed some body work completed on my Model X, and without hesitation, I reached out to Clay, and he and his crew took care of me. I can say I received the same consistent service in 2024 as I did in 2021. I highly recommend this place for body, paint or mechanical services they have a customer for life!

Their fees are ridiculously higher than what is normal or average for shops in that area… they don’t even entertain the idea of explaining why their prices are so high, they just are… they also like to play the game where they blame the insurance companies for working so slowly… seems like they’ve learn very well how the system works in order to charge more and get away with it.

Great experience from start to finish. Easy to communicate with, no wait time, great customer service from Miranda and they handled everything with the insurance company. Vehicle looked brand new when I got it back. 10/10, highly recommend!

Don't bring an insurance claim to this shop. Don't sign a work authorization for repair and don't give them your keys. Go anywhere else in Richmond. They will take apart your car and charge you a ridiculous amount of money either for the work itself, or to simply put your car back together so you can walk away. You are stuck, and completely at their mercy.
Shame on me for signing the work authorization form, but I did. It contains what looked to me like standard "CYA" legal language, but it definitely looked as though they could charge me and my insurance whatever they wanted once they had my car in and disassembled. Having these concerns, I brought in the form, and before handing it over, I asked to speak to someone. He [can't recall his name] came out from the back office, and I expressed that I was worried about cost overruns as my out-of-pocket deductable was only $500. He looked me in the eye, shook my hand, "If you have Geico you have absolutely nothing to worry about. We have no problems with them paying." He said it twice. I only agreed to move forward with Dorn's based on this brazen lie. I understand the concept of "Caveat Emptor" [let the buyer beware] but I was mislead, and trapped. Because it was a verbal exchange, it wasn't binding.
First the context of the lie - I spoke with no less than 5 Geico adjusters and supervisors over this period, all confirming that they have a long history of fighting over claims here, and one supervisor even told me that this shop charges the highest labor rates in a 150 MILE radius. They will only pay out the "area average" labor rate, and Dorn's rate is about $20 per hour higher than that. I was also told that they can't warn anyone to discourage using them due to VA insurance regulations, and that they have been fined previously for trying to do just that.
Two agonizing weeks with no car later, Dorn's tells me I now have to agree pay well over $2,000 out of pocket - ON TOP of what insurance will cover, to even start the work. Over several days of [admittedly] being a general pain in the butt I got that down a little bit, but the total invoice at the end was exactly 20% of what I paid for this car new, from the dealer... to fix a key job. 8 TIMES my original Geico estimate. I had about 9-10 scratch marks on 1 door, 1 panel, and the tailgate. Zero body damage, no dents, recessions, nothing. all superficial paint damage. If you're standing 20 feet away you couldn't even see it. I wish I never even tried to repair it.
Still unable to reasonably afford this, I begged to reduce the scope of work. Why do you need to paint other doors and panels that weren't affected? why do you need to repaint the inner door frames? I don't CARE if you can tell under a microscope. Paraphrasing the response to that - "We are a 'certified shop' yada yada, we only do work to OEM spec, yada yada, I can't lifetime warranty anything less, yada yada." In other words, They will only agree to do the most overkill scope of work possible, and if you want the car back instead, get ready for a huge "disassembly and reassembly" charge, that insurance won't cover, and leaves you at square one. I'M THE CUSTOMER. I WANT THE OPTION OF A LESSER SCOPE OF WORK. They refuse. Want to drive your car again? Fall in line. You're stuck.
Time for some fairness and objectivity - Their work is good. There's your extra star, Dorn's, congratulations. But I wish we never met. The insurance adjustment process, in my opinion, is predatory. The price gouging is outrageous. The way they will so confidently rationalize the predicament they place you in is insulting. Given the choice, I'd still be rocking those scratches and still have my money.

Absolute best experience I have ever had with any vehicle related enterprise. Clay Milburn and his TEAM were the most professional and dedicated folks I've ever worked with. Had a vehicle hit from behind in Va Beach. Was unaware the local Porsche dealer was not a certified shop. Dorn's was recommended by a friend and we had the car towed up there.
Numerous iterations transpired with my insurance company (who I'll be dropping as soon as this claim is settled) led to many fits and starts along the way to it being declared a total loss. Clay and his Team worked with us providing advice and a concrete time line for repairs etc until it was totaled.
We had left a few things behind in the car and he grabbed them and is mailing them down to us to save a trip up to the Richmond area.
I highly recommend using Dorn's if you unfortunately need to have a vehicle repaired. Thanks much Clay!

Highly recommend! They treated my vehicle as if it were their own and ensured that it was repaired properly, despite a lowball estimate from the insurance company. It was detailed and cleaned before it was returned in near-showroom condition. My car was brand new when this happened and I feel like they fought for what was right; I will never let another auto body repair shop touch my vehicle unless the name is Dorn's, the professionalism is unmatched! Thank you so very much, China White thanks you too! ;)
