Once again Safeway, thank you for your prompt and courteous service--sarcasm (Andrea not included)

Horrible experience. I've been shopping at this Safeway in McLean last 7 years and do most of my grocery buying here. The last two times I've been there in the last 3 weeks, I bought a cart full of items and there were zero cashier lines open. Only self checkout, which is not easy with a full cart. And very little space to put your bags after you scan so when you try to put a bag on the floor or back in the cart, the automated voice screams to "return items to the bagging area" and it freezes your screen and requires you to call over a roving clerk. And I ask them what I'm supposed to do when I have no room to place scanned bags to avoid the auto screamer, and they don't have an answer. First, you need to keep at least one human cashier line open for full carts. If not, then turn off your stupid theft protection electronic eye and trust the customers to do it correctly. You can always station a clerk there to watch customers. Otherwise, my message to shoppers is this: if you want to buy a cart full of groceries in McLean, don't go to Safeway. Go to Giant or Wegmans.

Safeway could be synonymous with higher prices. That seems to be fine with McLean residents, who seem happy to drop money at an alarming rate. I've been to this store several times, and in the parking lot, one could call it a high end car show. To this stores credit, it's a lot better than some of the "Soviet Safeway's" the chain is known for. It's clean, tidy, and very well organized. There are signs that label the aisles in a clear manner. Progress! Occasionally there are bargains, although it's mostly confined to unhealthy prepackaged foods. If you're looking to keep up your fitness routine, this is not the ideal store for that. With that being said, I like how the lines move very fast at checkout. That is not the usual Safeway experience. Also the employees are kind, and do a good job at keeping the shelves stocked. Definitely this is one of the best Safeway's in the area, and kudos to the men and women who work here. It's still too high in cost, especially when you look at the competitors pricing.

I usually wouldn't bother evaluating a chain grocery store but it's worth letting the community know this place in Mclean has some issues and I personally will not support this place with my money. It's poorly staffed and managed. Service - nonexistent. Products were not in stock all over the place. I just wouldn't trust the cleanliness of the meat and deli food. This company is not very good in general and this community would be better served if another business took it over.

I've only been to this Safeway once. Not impressed with the store itself or the staff. They seemed to be understaffed and the staff appear to not like their jobs. Products are typical Safeway. Rating due to the unwelcoming feeling given by the staff.

Slow. As. Molasses. One lane only open. Poor management. No self-check out lines. Painful.

Not one of the bigger locations, the Starbucks didn't have any seating. Nice wine selection!

Who actually shops here? I like the layout and selection but like why is the produce so bad and why does the shelf food smell musty when you open it... and then tastes all messed up? I like the cozy feel, reminds me of an upscale California food store, rather than a sterile warehouse like Giant. So I'd still go there for non-food items.

Seems to ALWAYS be missing something I want - today, no (as in...none) cottage cheese OR sour cream...huh??? They run out of milk consistently. Also the prepared food is bad. I had a chicken strip that was so hard and brittle it *literally* cut my lip. I kid you not. I've come here many many times like a person with Stockholm syndrome, since it's convenient. But this review memorializes my last visit. I'll be driving the extra mile to Giant. If you're wondering, the friendly service (aka, the only good thing about this Safeway) brought the rating up from -3 stars to 2.

Gross. Sells expired food and most expensive grocery store in the area.

This place is terrible. I use to be an employee and they treated me horribly. Was accused of doing something I didn't do and it took forever to figure out the next step. They say they won't use a paper against you and they did. This place doesn't pay well its a negative place to work. I never felt happy at this job. If you are working there your should make sure you check your check every week because hours have been taken off mine. Also was stressed poorly when it came to being terminated I was owed some back pay and since they terminated me I'm not entitled to that back pay, vacation pay, and or the suspension pay of 6 or 7 weeks. This place is a joke and no one should waste there time at this place. On top of all this they are fake and act like they are your friends and turn there backs on you. Please save yourselves and don't return to the place. They honestly should be shut down

Once upon a time, I shopped here weekly. The store was bustling. If you asked someone for help they actually walked you to the item you couldn't find. Florist was great. Checkout was a mess but it was an easier parking lot to maneuver than Giant. Then customer service fell apart. I got tired of waiting at the deli counter or florist or any other area of the store for someone to help me. I got tired of the sour attitudes of employees. BUT I knew if I needed something on Christmas Eve or Thanksgiving Eve I could go there because no one else will shop there. And so I did with my son on Thanksgiving Eve. We were the only ones in the store. No customer reps were anywhere. No florist/ The deli person actually refused to turn around to face out into the store to help us get some quality cheese. We gave up and got back in the car and drove to Giant. And three cheers to the nasty check out clerk who after we had clearly searched the store up and down for eggnog, and asked him where it might be, he grunted: "If we have it it's with the milk". Gee thanks. We've already been over there searching for it. Plenty of eggnog at Giant, though. And what an attitude when we checked out with just two items because we couldn't find what we needed. I'm sorry you hate your job but taking it out on customers isn't smart and you will lose your job when that store closes, which it eventually has to. I'm surprised it's still around. This is what unionization in America does.

Worst Safeway ever. I've lived in mclean my whole life and every time I've gone in here it's been awful. The workers have had an awful attitude the past two times I went this past month and today I was sent away because they were "closed " it was 820. Shocked this location is still open

This was the Safeway of my childhood; now I only go there every once in a while when I'm visiting my parents who still live nearby. The best thing about it is the pharmacy; the pharmacists are knowledgable and professional and kind, especially when it comes to my elderly parents (whom they know by name). The worst thing about it is the wine department - as in the manager is condescending and rude. I asked if they sold a specific wine, and instead of just pointing me towards it, he felt compelled to add his own commentary "I don't for the life of me know why you'd want to drink that stuff." I responded that we all have our own opinions, and when he asked me if I'd tried it and I said yes, he said, "I'm so sorry." Wow. What terrible customer service - insult the customer and denigrate their taste. Fortunately, I left with a good taste in my mouth, as I checked out with a clerk I remember from decades ago who still works there - his good humor and witty banter left me with a spring in my step, as opposed to that wine manager, who had me fuming.
