Last week I brought my cat to the McClean office in because he was licking a spot to the point of a sore. They focused on his weight so they wanted bloodwork but needed him sedated. Fine. They gave me gabapentin. I brought him back in stupor this morning with an appointment at 9am. I waited for an hour and half in their words "so he could calm down." Calm down? Coming off the gabapentin? How would that even work? It doesn't get stronger. They wanted me to leave go home at least a half hour away and pick him up later. Heck no. Let me digress and tell you why I wouldn't leave my cat there. Last time they kept my cat in a place where he had no place to go to the bathroom and this time I was able to see how they keep their cats in the back. They put him in a steel cage this time IN HIS CARRIER. I sure it was the same as last time and guess where he had to pee. He sat there soaked in urine for I don't know how long. I had a ruined carrier and a cat that needed several washings. The company said they had litter boxes. After three times asking the vet whether they did the answer, after skirting the question was "well we don't have much space." So as far as I know, they will leave your cat for an 8 hour period with no ability to go to the bathroom. Back to today. The tech, fed up with me complaining, they had me come to the back and hold him to no avail. Yes he was spunky. Gee, I wonder why. It's not like the medicine would wear off or anything. But this is a 15 pound cat that was mostly doped up and they could not control him with me holding him still on the top. "We can't do it". They didn't even try a towel, which I suggested. Nope. "We can't do it" seems to be the motto there. Any cat people out there not know to use a towel to hold your cat? They don't. Last time they said they could give him an extra shot so he would calm down. I asked for it. No. The answer was that the vet had 10 minutes per customer. Where were my 10 minutes? I saw no vet. So here I am with a cat that wasn't diagnosed for the original problem. The techs don't have the skill to hold a pet. The vet has no time for customers who have been there much longer than when their appointment was. If you go there, do not trust the techs. If you need to leave your animal, go in back and make sure they are not negligent, as they were to mine. They are cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

This is specifically about the call center agent I just spoke to— next time, make sure you actually put the person on hold before making rude remarks about them and their request. Just a thought!

I have brought my puppy to this location 3-4 times now for shots, and finally his neutering. Overall, our experience has been good, however, when I picked him up from being neutered he had poop crusted in his paws all in between his toes. He was freshly bathed when we dropped him off, so it was definitely from the few hours he was there. I understand he’s a dog and this is somewhere that other dogs are, so it’s not going to be the standard of cleanliness we would have for people. However, I found it worrisome that I dropped him off for a surgery and he was returned to me clearly having sat in poop for some time. I tried to call this location to speak with them directly about the issue, but nobody answered the phone.

I've been using Value vet for years and it's been amazing up until recently. Appointments are hard to come by and if you get an appt it's for weeks out, when you arrive for your appt wait times are ridiculously long to have you pet seen. We waited 45 mins to be seen when our appt was for 430 pm we weren't seen until 515 pm. Had to drop my dog off at 9am pick up was at 1pm got there at 12:45pm didn't walk out with my dog until after 140pm. Just today 6-24-24 called to make an appointment for my other dog mind you was just recently there June 12th for my female dogs drop off. Today when trying to make an appointment I was told I needed to give my credit card number to one of the very few appt open for July. When I asked why they needed my cc number to save my appt date hence they didn't ask my to do that a a couple weeks ago, I was put on hold and told because in 2019 (yes 5 years ago) I made appt for my male dog and never made the appt. I'm so confused because I don't recall ever not making it to an appt, but in 2019 I don't recall that many years ago and from my notes we were seen 2 times in 2019 that I can find in my emails. But my point is in 5 yrs he's been seen by them multiple times so I don't understand why my credit card number was needed all of a sudden to keep an appt.

I think this place only take $55 for careless check up and never want to make appointment for your pet. Please go to another Vet if you dont want to loose your money

While I liked the Vet who saw my senior dog, the female who seemed to be in charge of the reception desk was awful! She has no sense of customer service. The vet wanted a urinalysis and gave me something plastic to catch it in. I felt it would be hard for me to do and also to get back to that office as it wasn't a convenient location for me, so I asked them to get a sample while we were there that day. They said no. When I did bring a urine sample in, they charged me again for the urinalysis. I immediately questioned that but did pay again - $47 - because that lady, Lizzie was not going to send the sample if I did not pay! I stated that I still expected to straighten this issue out. I called and emailed with Lizzie who refused to refund me one the two charges for a urinalysis. She also refused to provide me anything that stated that I would've needed to return the urine sample within any particular timeframe or else be charged again. I believe this is because there isn't such a thing or at least they did not provide me with any such thing. That was not the only issue though. At the initial visit the vet said she believed my dog had arthritis and gave us some carprofen saying that if that seemed to help without any problems, we could continue giving it to her long term. When I returned with the urine sample, I asked for a refill of the carprofen, and once again, I was given one weeks worth - that's 14 pills as it is given one pill twice a day. Each time it cost $38.10 for 14 - 25mg pills. I discovered that it cost $33.60 for 120 25mg pills, so I contacted the Value Vet in McLean and was told by Lizzie that I had to come in and pick up the written prescription. She refused to either email it to me or mail it to me - then on top of that, when I went ahead and placed the order with Chewy and they called Value Vet, Value Vet told them that I had to come in in person to pick up the prescription!? They would not give approval to the Chewy Pharmacy to fill my order for CARPROFEN!? My car broke down a few weeks ago and I have no transportation to get to the Value Vet office in McLean. It is off the beaten path for me and it would probably cost about $30 one-way - for me to take an Uber there. Lizzie is the person I have dealt with through all of this. And as I started out saying she has no sense of customer service!? These days it is usually good customer service that distinguishes one place from another! I don't believe there is any good excuse for these things they have done, especially considering they refuse to even show me the policies that I have asked about!? I ask you why is this place called Value Vet??? But perhaps more importantly, is this any way to treat a customer?

Value vet is great!!! We have three dogs and two cats so we find ourselves at the vet quite often. Over the last couple years it seemed like I could never escape our local vet with spending $500, no matter what what going on. We moved over to Value Vet about a year ago, we have been very happy with both the McLean and Falls Church locations.

I was very happy with the services received. My puppy needed a spay as well as a hernia repair. She also had three baby teeth needing removal. The cost was very good. Staff were clearly caring and communicated well. I would definitely use them for services in the future.

We love Value Vet in McLean! They took great care of both our dogs, and were so kind to us one of them passed. Now our daughter takes her cats all the way from Alexandria to this location! I can’t recommend them enough. Professional, caring, and the best prices, as well.

The vet, Dr. Malone (I believe), was very good and I liked that I could get an appointment on short notice because my regular veterinary office did not have any appointments until the next day. The office visit fee is low but if your pet needs medication they are way overpriced (over double what my regular vet office would charge) and that's how they make up for the low office visit fee. It did not end up being any less expensive bringing my dog here but I was thankful that she could be seen quickly.
