We saw our vet at MAH about having some of our dog’s teeth extracted, but unfortunately we can’t afford to pay the full price quoted immediately given that it was quoted for several thousand dollars. We asked about potentially paying in installments or otherwise find some flexibility so that this procedure doesn’t have to wait and risk further health issues, but this practice and veterinarian were not willing to help us in any way. The vet suggested a potentially cheaper practice (in Manassas?!), but suggested that we check if they do extractions or just cleaning. Then told us that “if they only do cleaning, maybe some of them will just fall out” and we could handle it that way which was a shocking way to suggest we care for our pet. We’ve been using this vet since we got our dog as a puppy (over 7 years), but given the lack of sympathy and callousness we’ve received in our interactions about this issue I don’t think we can continue to see this vet. It’s unfortunate that practices and people like this care more about making money than about your pet’s wellbeing and good customer service.

The reason for the 3 stars is a bit weird... I absolutely love our doctor, Dr. Sullivan as well as some of the others. I also love most of the vet techs. BUT BECKY... who is PR (which is crazy because she is incredibly rude as well as untruthful) makes your experience miserable. My last few experiences at the vet have been miserable and it is SOLELY due to her. I have 5 dogs and I am truly considering moving all of them even thoughi love our vet solely as a result of the misery that Becky causes. I dont know why she is in the PR position because she is not friendly and as I mentioned earlier she is untruthful.

I pray no future clients ever get belittled and ridiculed the way their veterinary assistant Nicole Surtees feels is appropriate. I can’t afford a non emergent dental surgery that will run me 10s of thousands of dollars as a 24 year old and Nicole told me that I am the exact owner that everyone hates in veterinary medicine, and that I probably do have the money but don’t want to address my dog’s health because I am irresponsible and ignorant. I also saw her tell someone else to “have fun in the ER” when their dog has an emergency because they (the owner) is ignorant.
You should NOT feel comfortable leaving your animals with nasty, mean spirited staff who have no empathy.

Do not even think about bringing your cats here. The front desk was very unfriendly and even scheduled my appointment incorrectly with a different doctor, which caused a lot of misunderstandings. This place is extremely slow and made me wait for more than 40 minutes in the lobby before and after the appointment. My cat had to stay in the carrier the whole time during this unreasonable waiting period, with dogs barking constantly, which was unsafe and horrible.

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service at McLean Animal Hospital. I called to make an appointment for my dog, who was previously under my brother’s name. Sadly, my brother passed away in a car accident in March 2023. When I called, I was abruptly informed that his account was deactivated.
When I asked why, they told me it was because we missed a visit in March 2023, and they attempted to reach out without any response. I explained that my brother passed away on March 4 2023, which means they were likely trying to contact him during a time of tragedy. I also mentioned that I called in June to inform them that the dog would now be under my name instead of my brother’s, and at no point was I informed about any overdue bills or missed appointments for my brother.
Instead of offering any empathy or understanding, the agent on the phone was incredibly rude. She didn’t even say I’m sorry for your loss. Instead she began yelling on the phone. This level of insensitivity and lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I will never be coming back to McLean Animal Hospital and strongly advise others to look elsewhere for their pets’ care.

This morning at MAH, I was tearing up over the thought of losing access to this amazing hospital if and when we move. In 2006, we moved to McLean for the school district. In 2024, we are dragging our feet to move out of McLean because we love this hospital so much. It has been the rock for our 12 pets we have had over the last 18 years. Many of the staff have worked here for decades and they are literally family not just a business. They speak with one voice and act with one heart with the best interests of the pets and their human parents in mind. When in need, they have a vast network of specialized vets which they can tap into with ease in the most timely manner. The fabric of people there, their strong bond, is what makes it possible to enable consistently high quality of dedicated care. They have been with us through the most challenging of times, and every time, we are grateful we have been able to have our pets in the care of the best of the best. Yes, they may be pricey, but we have to understand the amount of training, the amount of education, the amount of experience day in and day out that goes behind the outstanding care they provide. To all MAH staff, past and current, we cannot thank you too much for being our primary go to clinic. You are the gem in McLean and in this industry which is rapidly consolidating into the hands of few major players but we hope you can stay independent for decades to come. Kudos to you all. Yuri K

Found a baby robin during my walk. No one would take the bird in. McLean Animal Hospital immediately accepted it, fed, and found a rehabber. These people are amazing and I will be taking my dog over to them moving forward.

I have been a client at Mclean Animal Hospital for 20 years. The vets and technicians are excellent and personable. The front desk staff who keep the practice running are friendly, efficient and caring. I highly recommend McLean Animal Hospital.
