Very happy with the custom built-in that Benton and the District Custom Woodworks created and would highly recommend. Communication was easy via phone, email, and through the customer design portal/dashboard. Benton created a design that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The install team did an incredible job installing the built-in and finished off the top, bottom, and sides of the built-in so seamlessly that it looks like our piece has always been a part of our home. So glad we chose to work with District Custom Woodworks and will keep them in mind for future projects around the house.

Quality of workmanship, quality of materials, cost and communication are the key to an excellent experience with any contractor. Benton excels at keeping in touch, answering questions and getting the work done. I am in Michigan and hired District Custom Woodworks to build a bookcase at my daughter's home in Maryland. The company is very professional and personable .. i highly recommend.

We had a great experience with District Custom Woodworks and we would highly recommend this business. Benton C. and his team were very professional in every aspect of the project. The custom design process was very comprehensive to help us envision what our needs would look like in the space. They also came up with creative solutions to challenges, such as sight lines and matching aesthetics. We appreciated the attention to detail and the quality of fabrication and materials. We are happy with our built-in piece and we would definitely go back to this local business in the future!

Benton and his team with District Custom Woodworks gave our family the kitchen of our dreams with our open concept renovation. He communicated well with our contractor during demolition to make sure timelines were being met and not to mention our expectations based on our kitchen design.

We hired District Custom Woodworks to build a bar area in a corner the living room of our new townhouse. I described my design ideas to Benton and not only did he understand what I wanted, he offered suggestions that improved the look. He also deftly navigated the back and forth with my husband, who wanted to do what could be done to keep the cost in line. We wholeheartedly recommend District Custom Woodworks!

So, check this out. I brought Benton a cabinet door that was cracked and in pretty bad shape (it was from a 1987 kitchen) and Benton did his best to explain the type of work he could do to repair it. After a couple of phone calls, I understood that the tooling and dies that his shop has is set up for newer cabinets and to repair my door would be very expensive. After he quoted me the cost, I declined the offer. He then had the cabinets dropped off at my office. I did not ask him to do that. Here is the point of this review-I was NOT a paying customer and District Woodworking took time out of their day so I wouldn't have to take time out of my day to pick up the doors at their office. I have no doubt about how they would service a PAYING customer. If I ever need new kitchen, closet, etc. cabinets, District will be my first call.

We had a great experience with District Custom Woodworks. Benton understood what we were looking for, and delivered. More than any contractor I've worked with, Benton takes time to listen to you, to understand how you'll use the furniture, what you're looking for, and to generally treat you with a kind and personal touch. I also appreciated the attention to detail at installation. The crew took the time to ensure everything would be level and even.

Save your time. They won't come out and set foot on your property without a $500 charge. So they require you spend hours of your own time up front before you even get a phone call with them. So after spending an hour and a half measuring the area we were thinking about building some built ins, drawing dimensioned diagrams per their request and sending them photos, they then spent 30 minutes on the phone asking me questions I couldn't answer (I'm not a carpenter, I don't know the best way to add the crown mounding). Half way through they were compiling a list of additional photos and dimensions they wanted me to send. So I stopped at that point. I've already wasted nearly 2 hours of my time doing your job, and you want me to do more because you are unwilling to send sales or estimators out to meet with clients and see the space? Fine, I will go elsewhere. DC carpenter community is pretty big.

Started out great. Had initial discussions with Benton to discuss what I wanted and he said he could do everything to help with my laundry space. Said anything is possible. Except... when it came down to actually designing what I originally intended, things fell apart.Paid $2250 up front before he would start, for a nonrefundable design retainer which would have gone towards the build and installation costs. I had something envisioned in my mind and by the end of it, I ended up compromising on so many things from what I originally intended for the space that it just didn't work out for us.We wanted some floating shelves in a niche but he couldn't cut custom fit shelves for the space, so there would have been large gaps on the sides so instead, he proposed putting in a custom built in instead with fillers on the sides instead. After everything was all said and done, the final cost to build and install was going to be $25,000-27,000 for this 90" wide x 40" deep custom cabinet space for the laundry and a custom built in for our little niche area.I'm sure he does great work. But for us, it just didn't work out. Worst part is, I'm out over two thousand dollars just for some 3D rendered drawings and the retainer isn't transferable to other projects. But maybe you'll have better luck. It just wasn't for us.Service: Custom cabinet design & installation

I cannot say enough about the work and professionalism of District Custom Woodworks! I had a very specific and bespoke project design for my small condo (a media unit and floating shelves), and Benton and the team nailed it. From initial design to the finished product, everything was perfection. Benton is very communicative and attuned to the smallest of details, and the installers were clean and respectful of my somewhat tiny space. I am a very picky design customer! I highly recommend DCW for your custom cabinetry needs!Services: Installation

District Custom Woodworks made my dreams come true with my kitchen cabinet upgrade. My cabinets are so modern, I’m pretty convinced I won’t have to upgrade for many years to come, so I’ll just wait for everyone else to catch up. They’re the absolute first thing everyone notices when they walk into my kitchen.Benton did a phenomenal job working with me on the design. He was very patient and worked tirelessly to complete my design, fabrication and installation in record time. Now, I swear when I go into other kitchens, the cabinets look dated. I’m probably a few years ahead of the “kitchen cabinet curve.”If you’re truly looking to take your kitchen to the next level, don’t hesitate to give him a call.
