I'm pleased to be writing my 100th review to share my experience at the Louisa Arts Center. For context, Louisa County is a predominantly rural county in central Virginia with a small, but growing, population of just under 40 thousand. The Louisa Arts Center is an unparalleled resource for bringing the arts to a community that otherwise would need to travel to Richmond, Charlottesville, or Fredericksburg for arts programming. The center offers a wide variety of arts programming. For instance, there are gallery exhibits, where you can browse or purchase artwork in the Purcell Art Gallery; partake in art classes for children and adults; or enjoy a show in the Cooke-Haley Theater. Our primary purpose in visiting yesterday was to attend a concert by the visiting Harry Chapin Band. For those unaware, Harry Chapin was a singer-songwriter best known for his folk-rock songs in the 1970s. Following his untimely passing in 1981, original band members have been "keeping the music alive." With about 200 seats, the theater in the Louisa Arts Center is an intimate venue and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are great. Musician Steve Chapin also commented at least twice during the show about the high quality of the grand piano that he was performing on. The seats and temperature control were also spot on for a comfortable evening. Intermission also allowed patrons to browse the art gallery or to grab a refreshment (wine, beer, water). (Note that only water is allowed in the theater). Parking is also plentiful and free. As for the concert, it was highly enjoyable. The four musicians (Steve Chapin on piano/vocals, Big John Wallace on bass guitar/vocals, Howie Fields (drums, acoustic guitar, vocals), and Clark Wallace on electric guitar) mixed a variety of the popular and familiar songs from the Harry Chapin era in the 1970s -- Taxi; Cat's in the Cradle; Mr. Tanner; ... with some less familiar but now new favorites. The concert ended with a band/audience sing-along of "Circle." "All my life's a circle; Sunrise and Sundown ...". If I counted correctly, they played 17 songs in about 2 hours. (7:30 pm-9:40, with ~15 minute intermission). My only disappointment was that they didn't play a personal favorite ...30 thousand pounds of bananas! The Louisa Arts Center has a full schedule of performances for the 2022-23 guest artist season. Next up are "Voices of Service" on Nov 19th and "The Karamazov Brothers" on Dec. 17th. See louisaarts.org or the full schedule.

It would have been good to know the field for music is NOT accessible nor is the parking. Your website shows that the arts center is accessible which led me to assume the field was too and that I would have accessible restrooms.

Great place,,,never disappointed... and then after multiple postponements of Suzy Bogguss due to Covid and weather (all understandable), you move the concert to an outdoor venue (fairgrounds) in August. Heat, weather, bring your own chairs,,,really? Very very disappointed.

I done every play here since i was 7. I'm 11 now. When I was 7, I saw a dinosaur play here. ever since I saw it I've loved acting.I now realize that without that play, i would've had a miserable life. The experiences here were some of the best experiences I've ever had. I've met 20+ great people. And the staff are so nice. I just LOVE the arts center so much!!
