My family and I had dinner on Thursday night before renting the entire place for a wedding for the weekend. The area is beautiful, but the service leaves nothing but a sour note. We were a table of 12. Jeanette, one of the waitresses, was an absolute horror and downright rude. In the beginning she made very subtle slights, but by the end it was completely nasty.
*Just as an aside, I'm only commenting on the service for one dinner (in the restaurant itself) and during the wedding dinner, which was the same staff plus other people helping.
First, on Thursday there was no welcome, please, or thank you in any of her discourse. This may seem petty, but read until the end. Next, we were given two large plastic containers of water that holds perhaps three liters. So needless to say very difficult to use. I just need to add that this was a fixed menu of $40 per person + 20% gratuity included automatically.
Next, no one came to take a drink order. After, the first course this woman literally put one of the dishes straight into the hands of my aunt who is about 70 years old and made her hold it even though she wasn't finished with her salad and didn't even move the salad plate to the side.
Before dessert, Jeanette came again and rudely asked how everyone was paying. My cousin, who rented the entire place for 3 full days said that she thought that she had paid for her party but forgot to include one person. To which, Jeanette rudely said, "No. No one has paid." In front of the whole restaurant with the undertone saying, "I hope you don't skip out on the bill."
Let me remind you that this it was not even 8pm. After dinner we paid the bill. My card was declined because I have a French card since I live in France. Again, Jeanette rudely said - you're card is declined. This is normal as no one asked to punch my pin in. Jeanette then stated that this happens with a lot of international clients (I doubt she has had a lot of experience).
They locked the doors before everyone left. When I asked if I could leave through the main door, all Jeanette said was, "No, it's over there." Pointing to an obscure door and didn't come to unlock it.
I notified the manager the next day, and this same women was working the bar on Saturday for my cousin's wedding and I had multiple complaints that the woman with the frizzy, unkept hair was rude.
During the wedding, the plates were practically thrown down in front of everyone. Now I know it's hard to serve 125 people, I worked in restaurants since I was 14 years old, but it was honestly so terrible.
I do hope that Jeanette finds a better position than working in hospitality. Or perhaps there was an undercurrent of racism? The management obviously did not speak with her after the complaint, which is a terrible oversight.
A really bitter aftertaste to a beautiful wedding.

We attended a wedding, this past St. Patrick's Day weekend and it was beautiful.
The venue, itself, is spectacular. Truly a hidden gem with views that are intriguing and astounding.
Service was straight up on point and the meal we had was really, really great! Steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. (Trust me.......it's easy to screw up something so simple) But it was perfectly served, plated and executed.
A great dance floor
The perfect place for such a glorious and beautiful setting for a special time.

House Mountain Inn is hands down the best, most relaxing retreat you will find. The staff is exceptional and always willing to go above and beyond to accommodate any request. The rooms are spacious and restful and the grounds are breathtaking.

The absolute best experience. House Mountain Inn offers peace and serenity with white glove experience service. The staff is all amazing. We had dinner with Lorrie who truly embodied the place with her spirit. This was the best getaway my husband and I have had in years. Highly recommend. Book the stay & add an extra night because you won’t want to leave.

We attended a wedding on October 28th at the House Mountain Inn and we stayed at The Cabin which is part of the House Mountain Inn. It is about a 10 minute ride from the House Mountain Inn. The Cabin was absolutely perfect for our needs. To some the most important thing is: THERE IS NO CELL PHONE SERVICE AT THE CABIN! Lol. That really bothered one of our guests, but for the rest of us, no worries! It was a much needed break. There is a TV that has plenty of channels for your viewing pleasure. The Cabin has a magnificent front and back porch. The front porch has rocking chairs and that is where we spent most of our time with family and friends. The kitchen and dining area are huge. You could easily seat 12 folks at the table. There is not a grill at The Cabin. We brought a small portable grill for doing burgers. The Cabin is not near to anything! To get into Lexington is about a 30 minute ride. Lexington is a beautiful city. Home of Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. We found a great running path in town by the river called The Chessie Trail. We are from flatland, so we were looking for something that didn't have constant hills! LolThe Cabin is pretty well stocked with everything you could need. There are more towels than you could use in a week and wash clothes. The kitchen has a drip coffee maker and they even have a water dispenser for making coffee and drinking water. We brought a griddle for making breakfasts and we brought a small grill for making dinners. But everything was in the kitchen to be able to make meals. There is a dishwasher and refrigerator and a heater in the kitchen area. The cabin has only one bathroom! That was not an issue for us, but for others it might be.It has two bedrooms, which are at one end of the house and connected. So you have to walk through one bedroom to get in and out of the other. Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed, and a set of bunk beds. The bottom bunk is a twin mattress and the top bunk is a single. Bedroom 2 has a queen bed and bunk beds also. The bottom bunk is a single and the top bunk is a single. There are plenty of sheets and the beds are super comfortable. The drive up to The Cabin is not your normal commute. The Cabin is on the side of a mountain and the drive up can be a little daunting the first time. It is kinda steep at one point and you might think you are going the wrong way, but just keep going. Heaven is at the top! Lol.There were deer every evening and morning in the front yard. We hiked up the mountain and the views are amazing. The hike isn't for the faint of heart. It was 600 feet vertical climb in less than 3/4 mile, and we weren't even at the top.

My biggest problem with HMI and Irvine Estates relates to the food served at a wedding. This is a wedding venue and food/drink is a big part of the celebration. To be brief, the appetizers were bland and not passed by servers as was contracted to be done. Appetizers were placed on a very small table, with limited access for a crowd and they were not refilled as they were depleted. Only half of our guests got appetizers (decreases HMI cost). Their charcuterie board was a joke...small, unimaginative and not well stocked (decreases HMI cost). The main course food was uninteresting. One of the dishes that my daughter picked was "Virginia Ham" carving station. I was expecting a whole Virginia ham. Not a piece of cellophane wrapped pressed meat, more closely related to lunch meat than a REAL Virginia ham. The turkey carving station again was slices of pressed turkey breast meat from a cellophane wrapper, not a turkey. There was no water service to the tables, not even an initial fill-up. The entire meal was lame. Unfortunately, HMI requires their wedding customers to utilize their catering service for all events. You can't bring in a different caterer or bring the food yourself. They should stick with what they do best....having a nice building in a great location.Requiring a wedding customer to rent all five hotel rooms to book your wedding at the place is ridiculous. Clearly the owner uses requirements like rooms and catering to pad their profit.Another issue that I had was with the cleanliness of the venue. There was a bunch of bird droppings on the spot where my daughter got married. They didn't bother to clean it before the wedding. My daughter's dress dragged across the poop and then, later in the evening she was carrying around the train in her hand or over her arm...then shaking hands with people and dancing. Nasty. One thing to mention is that the serving staff and wedding coordinator were fabulous.Food & drinks: The food is so bad at this place it should have a direct impact on your decision to use this as your wedding venue. I was embarrassed to have this food served to our wedding guests.

The NICEST people! The room was cozy and comfortable, the scenery was amazing, and the staff were so helpful and kind. One caveat: For anyone with mobility issues, the Inn is not very accessible. There’s no elevator, so if you can’t do stairs, make sure to request a room on the main floor. That said, the staff went out of their way to assist my mom so that she’d have a comfortable stay.

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Off the beaten path a bit, but not too far from Lexington downtown. Rooms are roomy, most with very private balcony and hot tub. Considering the room rate includes a great breakfast, wine and cheese happy hour , and 3 course dinner it is a great deal. Staff could not be friendlier. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.Walkability: Definitely not ADA friendly. Expect a lot of stairs. No elevator to second floor, multiple steps down to a lovely pond.Food & drinks: Great breakfast. Wine and cheese happy hour is great, not stingy with either the wine of the cheese. Dinner is a 3 course meal, although the menu doesn't change night to night.

My wife and I had our wedding at House Mountain Inn last weekend. As anyone who visits the property will see, it was the beauty of the location that convinced us that it was the place for us. Of course, many other considerations go into that decision as well though. Pricing wise, House Mountain was eminently reasonable in every way, which was even more amazing when considering the quality of the food and service they provide. So many of our guests raved about the food served to them all weekend. Also, including a day-of planner who knows the property and has handled hundreds of weddings there is extremely helpful. We saw all of the work and effort that went into making our wedding weekend (we had our rehearsal dinner there as well) perfect. Carrie was our primary planner, but Jamie was able to help out as needed as well. We cannot say enough good things about the property, location and staff at House Mountain. We want to send a huge thank you especially to Carrie for all of her hard work, but really to all of the House Mountain staff!

My daughter was married at the collocated Irvine Estates. This is a fantastic place for a wedding and the staff was awesome. Had the wedding cocktail hour and reception all on site and couldn’t be much happier with how everything turned out. We blocked all five rooms and stayed onsite as well with breakfast provide.

We did not stay here but made a reservation at the restaurant. Beautiful view from the dining room- that’s the big draw. There was no one else there when we went on a Saturday night, which we initially thought was strange but we enjoyed it. It was literally just us and the waiter, who was also the chef. To our understanding he was the only staff member there and we were the only guests. The menu is all three course, so it’s a fancier experience but for a pretty reasonable price. It’s a long ride down curvy roads and the road leading to the Inn is very steep. No phone service in the area. We enjoyed our meal, but know that it may just be you and your server/cook. Reservations needed.
