I contacted A&M for a routine inspection on a Subaru a while ago. I'm a handy guy and do most of my own repairs but inspections are required in Virginia.
Shortly after dropping my vehicle off they called me saying that they were multiple things that needed fixing, including trying to claim that I had the wrong brake hardware installed for the vehicle (read my vehicle was modified and upgraded with bigger brakes that had plenty of pads on them), that my intake boot was damaged, my front struts were damaged and got my brake lights were out.
I had my girlfriend drive me back up to A&M and review those problems with my own eyes and I can see that they ripped the intake boot trying to get it off and when I explained to them that it was just fine before I brought it in they called me a liar. I then contested their finding with the break and read the inspection code back to them which says that it has nothing to do with whether or not the hardware or standard but rather if the vehicle can stop correctly and if everything was installed correctly.
I let them throw rejected sticker on and took it down the road to another shop who immediately passed me and scratched their heads. I sent A&M the bill for my intake boot and they have not paid it, despite me only asking $35 reimbursement.
Basically the shop is out to get people who don't know any better and they assume that because I'm a foreigner I am stupid and don't know my vehicles or am going to take them seriously. And for God's sake don't let your girlfriend or wife go there for repairs because they will probably exploit her too.
Go elsewhere.
