We love the Tides Inn. The service here is excellent, the amenities are refined, and the food at the restaurants is delicious. Definitely make sure you can stay for a full day to take advantage of all of the resort’s offerings.
Nearby activities: There are a few restaurants in town that a shuttle will take you to. There are some wineries nearby too. But you can easily spend your whole time at the Inn not leaving the campus.
Walkability: Make sure to walk along the boardwalk trail. You can get to every spot in the resort without driving. The elevators are a bit slow.
Food and drinks: There are two restaurants — Salt and Meadow and Fish Hawk Oyster Bar. Salt and Meadow is more upscale, while Fish Hawk is laid back - burgers and fries and the like.
Noteworthy details: Each room comes with a luxurious robe, snacks, magazines, and toiletries. There is a gift shop on site, a gym, and a spa.

We celebrated an anniversary here in the off-season and it was clean, quiet and safe. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. If you come from the south, beware of the uncomfortably high Rt. 3 bridge with low guard rails.
Rooms: We stayed in the Lancaster House with a balcony overlooking the Shoreline Trail and Carter's Creek. Luxury shower with immediately hot water.
Nearby activities: Objects has beautiful and unique artwork by local artists. Stop by Chesapeake Doughnuts in White Stone for some treats to take home. Dredge has great fried oyster tacos.
Walkability: Shopping and dining are a mile walk from campus. The Shoreline Trail is a nice boardwalk with signs telling of local wildlife.
Food and drinks: Fish Hawk has a quality burger and delicious crabcake sandwich with bacon and avocado. Get the chocolate stout cake at Salt & Meadow.
Noteworthy details: Take the Cove Cruise to learn about the oysters, boats, history and local life. Great way to see the area and photograph birds. Nice gym with quiet equipment.

Away from everything, just what we wanted for a surprise birthday celebration. My husband vacationed here as a teenager and remembered much including the then alll-you could eat buffet-perfect for him and his brother. 60+ years later, we loved the upgraded rooms and common areas as well as the outstanding food- very innovative, including the purple grits with cream for breakfast. a special thanks to Kendall Walker for arranging special Oyster tour with superb and passionate ecologist Will. We will be back in less than 60 years!
Noteworthy details: Very small town that has several very outstanding local fare

We recently visited the Tides Inn using a day pass that you can purchase from the front desk. The day pass allowed us access to the pool, restaurants, and amenities. The pool is not large, but having access to the beach area allowed the kids ample room to roam. The best part of the trip was the oyster and crab learning experience. Our group of 6 got a boat and captain for half of a day. The Captain was fantastic with the children, and taught them everything about oysters and crabs but also kept it very fun for them. They then got a private lunch on a dock, and cooked the crabs and oysters that were farmed earlier. The kids had such a good time. The hotel and staff are amazing!
Nearby activities: The oyster and crab experience is amazing.
Food and drinks: There is poolside service available, and they are very attentive.

We worked with Alisha (might have spelled it wrong, sorry!) to book and cancel our reservation (unfortunately, my wife got COVID) - she was such a pleasure to work with and made everything so easy.
Based on this experience, I am sure the Tide's Inn is an amazing place to stay and we look forward to rebooking sometime soon!

We LOVED our stay at the Tides Inn! A boutique resort with friendly, attentive service in a cute, unassuming town on the tranquil Carter Creek. Food and cocktails were top notch. Complimentary use of stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes. Riverside beach complete with loungers and umbrellas and food/drink service. Pool surrounded by loungers and cabanas and food/drink service and a poolside oyster bar. Lawn games like bocce and croquet on a hill overlooking the Rappahannock. You’ll feel like you’re at a $1k per night resort on Martha’s Vineyard or in the Hamptons.
Rooms: The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful water view. But was a little dated and could use a refresh.
Nearby activities: Use a complimentary bike to explore the cute town of Irvington which has some local shops, restaurants and a gas ration with a surprising array of gourmet snacks.
Food and drinks: Whether you want fried oyster tacos or a prime steak, local beer or craft cocktails, there’s something for everyone.
Noteworthy details: Legitimately the friendliest most attentive service we’ve ever received at any resort we’ve been to.
