I had Mr Mercer cut and polish a large piece of petrified wood and I was delighted how well it turned out, also the price and turn around time were exceptional! Also Mr Mercer has a wonderful selection of rocks and minerals from Va and quite a few that he’s turned into Jewelry, oh and he sell Alpaca wool scarfs and hats from his own farm that are remarkable in both quality and price. So if you in or near Harrisonburg Elk Run Mining is well worth the visit.

Very cool local jeweler. Outside of a small display, Everything in the shop is from gemstones found in Virginia. There are classic stones you’ve heard of, and ones you haven’t, and all are magnificently cut. The owner is very knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about his work. He has developed relationships with land owners across the state, so he has access to exclusive mines and properties. This is a hidden gem in Harrisonburg, and well worth The expedition. Prices are fair, the work is beautiful, and if you have the time, stick around and ask about local geology. This is a must visit!

My son and I went to visit the Elk Run Mining Company today to ask about my blue quartz specimen I found recently. My son could have looked around the small shop all day if I let him. Mr. Mercer was friendly and talked to my kid about geology; my son wants to be a geologist. Great shop with a beautiful specimen and gem and jewelry collection.
