Online payment system ensures you will pay late fees. There is no way to simply make a payment on a loan. Sometimes it will take it and other times it requires you to find another menu and approve the transaction you already made and received a confirmation for. You only find out when collections calls you for a late payment. This bank is a predator and will.take your money and ruin your credit due to an online system that is designed to make you late.

Terrible online service. Online payments must be made during regular business hours if not they dont post until the following business day. This is a problem when payment is due on a Sunday, go to make payment on Saturday and it does not post until Monday. Online platform is not intuitive and often find it difficult to make an online payment. Most recent update moved the "make payment" button. Initial payment was a true pain because i wanted to use outside bank account to pay car loan, system and process is not friendly to outside bank use. Lastly my information was compromise in a recent security breach they had.

Please think twice before wasting your time with Old Point for any loan services. They falsely advertise a Professional Loan Program on their website. When we connected with the lender, she confirmed that the professional program was valid and gave us a pre-approval letter based on the existence of that program. Note: The pre-approval letter requires that we provide significant financial documentation in advance, so they did their due diligence to confirm our qualifications.

The pre-approval was for $1.3M (Yes, you read that right. We were very serious, credit-worthy, multi-millionaire, professional buyers and we were trusting Old Point with the closing of our primary home). The pre-approval letter explicitly referenced the professional program and its terms and conditions. AFTER we had a home under contract, paid for a home inspection, and were ready to finalize the appraisal and closing timelines, Old Point finally informed us that the program was no longer available and they had no intent of honoring the terms under which they had extended the pre-approval. The lender had these files pass by her desk at every step, yet failed to update of this change in the program. We met all conditions under their terms, they just decided to no longer honor their commitment as stated in the pre-approval. Thankfully, we ended up using another (more trustworthy) bank and had a seamless experience thereafter with purchasing our home. Not only did we not use Old Point for that purchase, but we also decided against using them for a commercial loan deal that they had pre-approved us for. We couldn't see ourselves going into a long-term business relationship with a company that so easily dismissed their missteps as acceptable business practice and made no attempt to acknowledge their mistakes. The commercial purchase ended up making the front page of the Daily Press and their handling of our portfolio represented at least a $2.5M (plus interest) loss for them because of inconsistent application of their own policies. It's possible that that amount of money doesn't mean a lot to Old Point, but I think this review will mean something to other professionals who might think twice before trusting and wasting their time on loan approvals with a bank that has questionable lending and advertising practices.

I recommend Old Point National Bank for personal and commercial use based on my experience of using Old Point for both. I could list several staff members that have been helpful over many years, Rita Thomas stands out. In well over 20+ years she has assisted and advised me the on decisions regarding car loans , equity lines and much more. She has addressed issues that others couldn’t and were becoming frustrating. Rita Thomas is a true asset of Old Point Bank and represents the bank very well in demonstrating true top tier customer service.

Old Point bank is a cluster ! I have bought and sold several homes over the last 40 years and I have never had so much trouble with a lender. Problems included : Missed rate lock. Was told bank program then switched to open market then back to bank. Paperwork requests extreme and numerous. Loan agent did not return phone calls or emails timely. Loan closing took almost 4 months. Closing paperwork done incorrectly. Did not put house in name of trust. Closing paperwork done incorrectly. Did not properly set up impound account for insurance and taxes. Had to ask for copies of final closing paperwork. Get your home mortgage somewhere else !

Old Point as a whole is a very disappointing organization. I am an online banker... but the system is always down. Your chargers don’t show up or post to your account for weeks. It’s impossible to get real answers to questions... I call and then I’m just passed from one person to the next. I was out of town... I used my card in my hometown in NC. This is somewhere I’m at a lot. But, this time while there for Thanksgiving they froze my card and it took forever trying to get someone. I just wish things were a little more up to date. I choose this bank when I moved to VA because the company I work for banks with Old Point...but it hasn’t impressed me.

Went there earlier this morning ,very disappointed at their service and attitude, the employee working there acted like they are so high up there, and you are just a piece of XXXX,the way they talk to you is like they couldn't wait to get rid of you .Lol,why on the earth I will choose this bank ,simply no way.P.S. How surprise it is, for a big bank like that, treat their potential customer like that.

You can’t trust the teller when you put cash in the night deposit. I’m the one that put the wrong total so it was easy enough to get the $100 that I deposited. I didn’t change my deposit slip by mistake. My husband asked me was I sure I should put cash in the night deposit. I told him it would be fine. It was fine for the guy that got my $100. He must need the money more than I do. So watch out for the Carrollton branch if you’re depositing cash in the night deposit. I’m changing banks. I know my one account isn’t going to hurt their business. But I know they got all the money they’re going to get out of me. The best part is when I called yesterday afternoon I said “I did a night deposit yesterday and I made a mistake”. He said “I did your deposit”. How did he even know what deposit I was talking about? Just don’t trust them!
