They are very genuine and truly care about each and everyone one of these animals. While working with a rescue organization, they stepped in to help a very sweet rescue dog in an emergency situation that needed help when it had nowhere else to go and I will be forever grateful to them. ?They want the animals to find people that will care about them and keep them safe in a loving home. They don't just give them to anyone. If you are looking to provide a safe loving forever home this is a great place to go find your pet. A big thank you to this wonderful organization and the very special people that staff it! ?

The AAS in Hampton, VA is a wonderful gem of a no-kill shelter. The volunteer caregivers are the kindest, most empathetic folks I have ever met. They take loving care of their rescued pups, their facilities are top-notch and very humane. The love they show each pup is a joy to behold. As we walked thru their process of adopting "Buddy", their thoroughness was impressive. References, pictures of your home and property, In-person greet sessions. It was all geared towards finding the best match for their pups. As it should be... Too many selfish and short-sighted pet owners nowadays. It was an honor to meet and work with AAS. Highly recommended.

Amazing volunteers. We adopt our Billy from there, he had a rough beginning, he's so contented now.

Such an amazing place! They really care about their dogs. They dont adopt out by first come first serve, they adopt out by best match and I think that upsets some people but it's the right thing to do!We got our boy from animal aid and they have helped us so much. We have never once had an issue with them! Strongly, strongly recommend.I want to add because I saw this in other reviews that gave one star: THEY WILL NOT ADOPT TO YOU IF YOURE LOOKING FOR AN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL!!! These dogs need more support than you'd be willing to give them, and they make that very clear even on the adoption application. It's not easy taking in a broken dog, but it's so worth it to change their life. If you're looking for a dog to help you, animal aid isn't the place to go

Loved seeing the dog and lady that brought him to meet us was super nice. But i feel like this place REALLY invades your personal space and nitpick everything on why you cannot adopt a pet. Seemed fine at first and that we had no issues on why we couldnt adopt a dog, but was declined because they seen on my personal info that i am very early on in pregnany. Made it feel like they really invade your personal life and not sure why they decline people with children or that are expecting. I get that the dog could maybe nip at a child or that they are worried the dog wouldnt be the main focus. But they wont even adopt out to single people working a 9-5 job ive seen. Since you wouldnt be home almost 24/7 caring for your pet. So just reminding others before they adopt from here that it doesnt make you a bad pet owner for living your life and having a family of your own, or working your everyday job and having to leave your pet at home sometimes. People do have lives and dont need to be 100% perfect to own a pet. 10/10 will never try and adopt from here again :)

Was looking to adopt. But I was told that because I returned a dog to a shelter that bit my infant and my 6 year old on multiple occasions. They stated that as a negative and marked me unfit for adoption. They may take care of their dogs but they are too judgmental on people.Meanwhile the other shelter had this to say. We are not at all upset with his adopters. They did the right thing bringing him back because he is a lot of work, and he did bite at them,"Not every dog is right for every family. We know there's a lot of judgment going on about the family that returned him. But, you know what, they didn't let him go in the street, they didn't let anything happen to him, they acknowledged he wasn't the right dog for them, and they brought him back."We now have two beautiful big dogs that are right for us from that shelter because they understand a dog does not get priority over your kids. EVER!!!

We recently saw Animal Aid Society on social media and started looking at dogs. We already have a 12 year old Boxer/Beagle and a 3 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback on top of a two year old son.We saw Sadie (redcoon hound) on the website and decided to take a visit to Animal Aid Society. We brought our two dogs for a meet and greet; the trainer was great and there was concern how Sadie would do with a child, but she loved being around kids though was unsure about our RR. They even invited us to come up with professional trainers were around to measure the dogs temperament. We did two more visits with our dogs and submitted an application. The reviews of them following up with references and vets is true so make sure if you have good references and Vets inline. They allowed us to adopt Sadie to join our pack though concerning at first that our RR and Sadie were not sure about each other, but 12 hours later they were chasing each other and wrestling in the house and the yard. Not sure why others were denied, but just know the process was robust but relatively seamless. Sadie is still learning the is not a lap dog and that food is not hard to come by here. She enjoys her weekly beach walks.

Believe the negative reviews. These people are heartless towards the previous owners who gave up their animals. How do you think they treat the animals they receive? Also, they didn’t have resources to take care of my dog breed but never turned me away saying this. They took my dog only to transfer him to another rescue shelter and after 1 and half years still will not give me at least the region or name. This is the biggest regret of my life. For the lady to laugh on the phone is insane. For them to take in a breed they can’t care for is even criminal.UPDATEI followed up. I made the wrong choice giving him over to these people . I wish I could go into details with you guys but if you care about animals do not bring them there please!

I was treated very poorly. And honestly don't think this agency likes to adopt fairly to everyone. I received several very rude emails from them. And treated as if if I were a bad person.Overall, it was a traumatizing experience. Especially since I wanted to adopt after losing a doga fter 14 years, and they kn ew that but still treated me very coldly.

I stopped in here while I was in town and I was blown away by this place! It's 100% volunteer run (which is incredible) and everyone at the shelter cares so much about the animals there. They make it super easy to volunteer in any way you can! Whether you want to be a greeter/grounds keeper/or dog walker, they have something for you to do! I didn't have time to do the orientation, but stopped in from 9-12pm to walk the dogs! The volunteers help to get the dogs in their harness/leash and then all you have to do is show up and give the dogs love! I made lots of furry friends while I was there and will definitely be coming back!

What an amazing place. We just adopted our little girl from them. Everyone you talk to there loves the dogs and wants the best for them. They are very thorough on the adoption process to make sure they go to a good home. Which I am thankful for.We need more amazing people like them in life. Thank you for taking such great care of our little girl until she found her forever home.

This place is absolutely ridiculous. we fell in love with a dog and they made the process very complicated. one of the volunteers even told us that the workers adopt most of the dogs. the lady was very rude on the phone and was not trying to work with us at all. They had us going on a wild goose chase just to deny our application. I honestly believe they push the dogs they do not want or the older dogs and adopt all the younger ones for themselves. Please do not surrender your dogs here, they are not fair in their process and very selfish. Please send to another shelter so people are able to adopt.
