(Everything that has happened was in the course of a week) We started an adoption process to bring a new dog into my house hold. We started the process with Abigale (i believe thats her name) and her assistant (do not know her exact position, nor her name), and everything was going so well. Then one day we get a call explaining that the original owner was wanting to get the dog back but wasnt sure just yet (which is all fine, but still bummed me out.). Abigale said we could still do the meet and greet with my current dog, and still go as planned, but couldnt set a pick up date till the original owner made a decision on wanting the dog or not. So we proceeded on it. On the day of the meet and greet, a third lady who was not part of the staff I had been working with, had stepped in and completely took over. The entire time she kept criticizing my current dog. Saying that it was “wrong for me to have my dog un-neutered because it could very well lead to him having cancer in the future” (which speaking with my vet, is a very very slim chance) then proceeded to say my dog was terrified of the other animal, and the potential dog was trying to attack my dog. Which was the complete opposite of what i was observing. She asked what my intentions were for the potential animal. My response was “I planned to have the dog service dog certified to have her as a companion dog” Her words in response were, “We do not release animals to be service animals.” She then asked the lady who was handling the new dog what she thought of the interaction. This person said “She just seems very playful with the other. I dont see any harm” She told us she wanted to do a second meet and greet with another staff member to have a second opinion. Once scheduled, i came back the next day to reschedule the meet and greet due to conflicting work schedule. She proceeded to talk about my application and question how i was so young and owned my own place. Once i explained that the house is mine and i live on my families property, she proceeded to say “well we need to check the tax registry to see who owns it to ask for their permission..” Through this entire process with the 3rd lady, I have felt like SHE did not want me to adopt this dog, and it upset me very very much. It also upset my girlfriend because she was looking forward to the new dog as well. This facility needs to work on who they hire because this was NOT professional. And resulted in them loosing a potential adoption.

I went there to give them many extra blankets & sheets. The lady at the desk rolled out a large bin to my car. It was much easier than for me to carry them inside by myself.

My boyfriend and I tried for several weeks to adopt a cat named prism , came in a handful of times to check on the progress of the cat’s availability (which we were told to do by a staff member who made it very clear she did not agree with the new adoption process). We were told he would be posted to the website the following week after he went to the spay and neuter clinic and that the website was the only way to fill out an application. We checked every day to see if he had been posted yet and he had not been. We also called several times ( as instructed) to be met with poor customer service and receptionist who had very little of any information to give us. One didn’t even know what cat we were referring to and refused to check. We followed up the following week and were told the cat was no longer up for adoption because it was going to rescue. We came on the exact day she told us to to. Seems there is no communication or organization going on around this facility pertaining to the new adoption process. Extremely disappointing seeing as to how prism was very clearly up for adoption considering a photo of his adoption was just posted on the gmhs Facebook.

I went to be a volunteer but unfortunately I didn't have all the right requirements for that. The staff are kind and the cats are really adorable, I didn't see one aggressive cat. But on the other hand the dogs hated me ?. I used to be a volunteer when I was younger and read to the cats and dogs. But I got kicked out cause I wouldn't stop playing with them lol.

This is the best run shelter I have ever known! They are so good at finding homes for dogs and cats that they are able to take and save dogs and cats from high kill shelters and disaster struck areas
