Petco itself needs to have a better stock of options for saltwater fish. It gets old seeing the same thing over and over again of just seeing clowns. Good employees and helpful but they are restricted by the company lack of diverse options.

We come to Petco all the time and come to this one specifically, even though it is further away from where we live, because of the staff. They are helpful, knowledgeable, fun and professional. We adore Haydon. He’s the best!!!! Keep on doing what you are doing. It works.

Wish I could say someone asked to help me but of the 2-3 employees I passed-not a word. Cashier asked for my phone #, nope that didn’t work. Gave her another, no. Not a big deal for a small purchase but I dug around and found my Petco customer card! “Too late now” was her response. I said I was just curious why she couldn’t find me and all I got was a shrug!! Luckily PetSmart is nearby and will be getting my business now.

Charlie & I love Nicole at PetCo in Short Pump. She truly is the only groomer that actually gets my Charlie, and she's been doing so for the last six years! He gets so excited when he sees where we're going... Both he & I know that he will be well taken care of and looking great when I pick him up!!! My Charlie even loves seeing Rebecca because she's great with him, too!!! I drive from NOVA for their services because my dog gets anxious with anyone else. We have nothing but love for this dynamic duo at Petco Short Pump!!!

Made an appointment for 9am this morning. On the way my 4 month old puppy got sick in the car. I had to stop and make sure she was ok. Causing me to arrive at 9:20, the groomer did not greet me asked me how could she help me after looking at the clock and showing visible annoyance by me being there. I said I had a 9am she told me I was late and could not service my dog. Did not say good morning, walk over to speak to me. And turned away. I asked for the manager. 10 mins later David came in. David said they would not be taking my dog. I walked out and then went back in to see if I could rebook. At this time David nor the groomer were visible but I could hear them talking. David was explaining to his employee that I would be reaching out to corporate and he did not care. The groomer belly laughed and said do not be late!!
David came out from where he was and saw me. Kind of wide eyed because he knew what I had heard.
No wonder the staff treated me as such when I walked in with a manager like David running the show.
I should have read the reviews and realized all the others that have had poor customer service experiences at this location. Take your pup to a place where people actually care and love what they do. And stay away from this location.

Helpful staff, they don't have to be friendly or rude, purchased terrarium for Spencer 🐸, but food prices are steep, not saying anything negative , but some pets can be picky , otherwise they are a well stocked pet shop.

Extremely Disappointed with Petco Grooming Experience
I’ve now brought my puppy to Petco’s grooming section three times, and each visit has been more frustrating than the last. As a first-time dog owner, I expected guidance—not constant confusion and poor customer service.
Visit 1: I was told I couldn’t proceed without vaccine paperwork—something I was never informed of ahead of time.
Visit 2: We were rescheduled to 12:30 PM on 4/23/25 without issue.
Visit 3: I arrived at 12:15 PM, only to be told I was late because my appointment was allegedly at 12:00 PM—a time I was never given. After inspecting my puppy, the groomer said she didn’t feel comfortable trimming the hair behind his ears and told me I had to go back to the vet.
The groomer’s attitude was consistently dismissive and unprofessional. What shocked me the most, though, was the manager’s response. Instead of de-escalating or trying to help, he sided with the groomer and said, “Yeah, it’s your first time visiting us,” as if that excused the poor service.
This has been a very disappointing experience, and I would not recommend this Petco location to anyone looking for professional, organized, or respectful grooming services.
I will be reaching out to corporate to report this experience.

I took my son's dog to the grooming dept where Natalie received with a really friendly attitude. She was very nice and did a wonderful job. She explained me everything she did when I pick up the dog. They even called me to pick the dog earlier than expected.

This is a great Petco! Has a great selection for your feathery, scaly and furry friends extremely friendly and helpful staff. I'll go out of my way to visit this store vs others A+ 😸🦎🐹🐟🐦🐶
