As a resident of Fort Belvoir, my family and I primarily shop at the local commissary. However, my experience there on April 12, 2024, was highly disappointing. We purchased two bags of cookies, and upon opening one at home, we discovered the cookies were stale. When we attempted to return the opened bag for a refund or exchange, the on-duty manager, Marissa Aye, informed us of the store's policy against accepting open items, receipt notwithstanding.I was taken aback as this policy was never previously disclosed to us, and it is unlike any I've encountered at other grocery stores. I explained to Marissa that we had purchased this product before and that it did not meet the usual standards. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when she implied we had consumed more than just a couple of cookies, which felt like a direct attack on my integrity. As a military member dedicated to serving our country, it is disheartening to undergo such an experience over a matter as trivial as a $5 refund, which is not about the monetary loss but rather the principle and the manner in which we were treated. Due to this incident, I am compelled to reconsider using the commissary as my primary grocery source, only resorting to it when absolutely necessary.I advise caution when dealing with customer service at this location, particularly with Manager Marissa Aye. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend their services based on this experience.

I love the variety of foods from different cultures. The prices have increased but not nearly as much as off-base grocers. Thank you for the services you provide to the military community

Must be the premium in the military not your ordinary commissary for sure

I'm surprised that this commissary is getting an average rating of 4.6. When I was there on Wednesday of last week it looked the way it did right after covid shut everything down. Shelves were completely bare. Once again, I had to finish my shopping at Walmart. I haven't figured out what day of the week they restock shelves but other stores I use restock constantly so even though they charge more, I don't have to drive around trying to find things on my list. Since I don't live on post the mileage adds up.

Nicest commissary I’ve ever been to. I was in awe! So clean, well stocked, and so much fresh produce!

Well stocked... prices could be better. Some items are more expensive than out in town.

My first time here. Amazing place. All the brand name items along with their generic items. Excellent bakery, deli, seaford section. I went with my brother who is retired military. You have to be on active duty or retired military to shop at the commissary and the Exchange.
