WORSE company to do business with I have ever experienced! They hit my fence and took 2 years to replace and $8,000 worth of damage. They get oil on my driveway on every visit after repeated attempts of asking to do something so this does not happen. NEGATIVE 100 Stars! I am trying to get their tank removed and a new company to take over!!!!

It's annoying how the delivery idiots can't do anything. The delivery man MATTHEW G of the vehicle l10185 told me. You have to move the car. If not, I won't leave and you'll run out of gas. HOW stupid? And if I wasn't at my house, wouldn't I deliver it? With what excuse? They don't like to work easily anymore.

This is the only place I stop for gas. I haven’t had any issues with my equipment breaking down for no good reason after switching to Southern States 4 years ago

Customer service sucks, if you want something done right away better call some one else . It takes SS too long to get back after I call for service. Some one come looks around ok it will be so much ok do it oh we can’t do it your tank has out lived it’s estimated life it must be replaced ok replace it, nobody contacted me about replacing the tank, then I ran out of fuel instead of replacing the tank they filled the same out dated tank.

This is primarily a fuel depot for large trucks. However they also sell off road diesel, regular gas as well as 50 Cetane rated over the road diesel. They also are generally the least expensive in the area consistently. They take most all types of payments at the pump except cash. The two larger diesel pumps are fast fill pumps which will fill you up pretty quickly. When I am close this is my go to fuel station.Nothing fancy, just good fuel.

I recently saw a sign in front of this location that said gas pumps were open to the public. I’ve never gotten gas here because from the road it looks like some type of private commercial fueling facility. I decided to try it out. Gas pumps are behind the office in the rear parking lot area. There is a fuel island with regular gas pumps and another island with diesel pumps. I got regular unleaded fuel. At the time of my visit, it was three cents less then the big box convenience store down the street.

For 13 years, I have run a 5 star company in the frederickbsurg area. This is my story with Southern States - Fredericksburg VA. In November, I met with Marty and Melissa in Melissa's office, turned in my lease agreement and credit card authorization form for auto delivery. I asked when I would have propane, I explained I was at 30%. Marty said by end of week. Almost a month later, I run out of propane. I call the office, they tell me I'm going to be charged fees for running out, fees for an emergency fill and if I get on the schedule for a regular request, it would be a week before I get propane. I explained i should be under auto delivery, that i filled out the authorization form. The lady told me I didn't, I told her I'm positive I did. She then found the credit card authorization form I filled out and gave to her, but said I am not set up on auto delivery. She said no, your paperwork says will call. I said, well then why did I fill out the form, why did marty say I'd be filled by end of week. It was tooth and nail, constant debate and pushback from them. They didn't fill by end of week. They said I never filled out the authorization form then end up finding it. To their credit, they sent someone to add 20 lbs immediately and filled up my tank the following day. When spoke with Marty on the phone, he agreed it would be unfair to charge me fees. Fast forward, now 2/2/23. I ran out of propane. I call in letting them know I have run out of propane. Jamie said i am set up as will call. I explained the history, that I've already been through this before and it was resolved that I'm auto delivery. Jamie said, nothing she can do, I would be charged 400 for emergency fill because i'm set up as will call. I said this is unjust and I've run out and you're going to charge me for that too, how much is that? She said that is $140, but that is included in the $400. She puts me on hold. Melissa, their bookkeeper and assistant manager gets on the phone, providing the same level if customer disservice. Asked me who I spoke with back in December, but because I couldn't give her names, she said she could not determine where the contradiction was. I said, so you don't believe me because you can't validate if there is a contradiction? She tell me the best she can do is charge $400 for emergency delivery and an additional $140 for the empty tank check fee. I said that isn't included in the $400, she said no, I said well you are contradicting Jamie. She puts me on hold, gets back and admits that the way she charges is different from the way Jamie charges. For me, this is about principale. I couldn't imagine disregarding a customer, especially after many mistakes and contradictions and fees waved as a result of them which is all evidence as I deal with this again. Worst customer experience I've ever had endured in the greater fredericksburg area. I strongly suggest finding other propane service . If you work with them, as Melissa their bookkeeper/assist.mngr told me on the phone as a response to me not knowing the names of who I spoke with in December, "I'm a business person, you're a business person, anyone who's a business person documents things." So document, record your phone calls if you are going to have business dealings with southern states.

We had been with a one of the bigger companies who’s customer service and prices were horrible. I own my own 500 gallon underground tank that only runs our Generac. After the big storm a few weeks ago that left power out in our area for 7 days, I burned through a majority of my tank down to 23%.
I started calling companies to leave the one I did use every 3-4 years on a call when needed basis. They were all .50 cents plus higher than Southern States. I know the few reviews here complained about communication issues etc. I did run into some communication problems, had to call multiple times to clarify information that different people failed to note on the account. However, I had grace for the shortcomings as we are getting out of a massive storm and still in a pandemic. We worked through the small issues and they set up a tank test as a new customer.
James came out for the tank test and was very friendly and kind. They set up the delivery the following week and today I had my tank filled. For those of you who do not understand how vapor works a full tank is only 80% full not a 100% due to thermal expansion and contraction.
You should never let your tank run so low that you end up I trouble. Once you hit the 25% mark call and get it filled. Other than the mentioned issues it was a pleasant experience. I am not stuck with contracts I don’t need getting filled every 3-4 years. The amount of money I saved literally over 300 gallons put in and everyone else was over .50 cents a gallon higher; do the math. The money I saved far outweighed any negativity.

Apathetic and unacceptable response. As a will call customer we called the office on 7th of January to schedule a refill of our tank which was at 30% fill at that time. After providing our information we were informed that we would be put on the schedule for refill. Last night the 23rd of January our tank hit empty. We woke up to 55 degrees in the house and unable to use the stove for cooking. I called and explained the situation and they needed to call us back. Mind you this was two minutes after they opened this morning. Four hours later we called them back only to be told that they had no record of our phone call on the seventh of January and that we would not be serviced for refill until tomorrow the 25th of January. With a temperature high of 36 degrees today we will incur another night without heat and tonight will be just above freezing in our home. However, they're office did promptly charge our credit card within two hours of our call this morning. It was implied that since they had no record of our call on the seventh we must have been lying - never was it voiced that it could have been an error on their part. For anyone that has the time and flexibility to shop for an alternative petroleum company I highly recommend you do so. The lack of care given the details I shared about our call to then and the need for heat with my a family member being released from the hospital with the office staff were only met with a quick response to charge our account and make us spend a second night without heat in our home nor be able to cook. This office does not demonstrate the values this company states as being committed to high moral standards and respect for their patrons. Again, I recommend to anyone shopping for a petroleum company in the Fredericksburg VA area to call another company. Seek out one that lives by the values they say they work and live by vice one that just lists them and doesn't action on them.

I would’ve given five stars but who sells generators, Services them but doesn’t have one for themselves so when a bad snowstorm hits they don’t lose power for days. But those decisions come from the top not from the backbone of the company. The backbone workers are excellent, they are dedicated to helping the customer. Without those backbone workers there would be no top.

I was in a pinch, and this team came through like champions! My acct was established in 1 day and I had heating oil the next. Amazing service, don't waste time calling anyone else!
