BEWARE YOU DO NOT AND NEVER WILL OWN THE ANIMALS YOU ADOPT FROM ODHS.I adopted a puppy from ODHS in February 2022, at the time of inquiry and adoption ODHS could/would not confirm the breed of the dog just stated she was a mix. So I didn't initially take note of her being a bit on the skinny side. After getting her home I informed ODHS of her new name and provided pictures per their request. At her first vet appointment my vet said she might be some sort of greyhound or whippet mix and that they are high energy dogs and need lots of exercise which was fine as I have multiple acres of cleared land and had two older dogs she could play with. Initially she would eat her food fast and wouldn't really let you get her bowls down before she would try and start eating. Within a few days she calmed down and got acclimated with the other dogs, my kids, and her schedule. About a month (March) after adopting the puppy she had a freak accident where while playing with the younger of my other dogs and ended up breaking her hind leg. After getting her to the vet and her situated I informed ODHS of the injury, treatment plan, and that she wouldn't be able to complete their required training requirement within the timeframe provided. ODHS stated not to worry about it and to keep them updated on her progress. I ended up spending close to $6k to repair her leg and in aftercare expenses to include having a sitter come to the house while I was at work. She was cleared to return to ease into full activity with no restrictions towards the end of May beginning of June 2022. In mid July ODHS sends me a random almost generic sounding email addressing the puppy by the name she had prior to her adoption requesting a copy of her training certificate. First off I already informed them of the name change and had numerous correspondence with them regarding her progress & care so getting the email really did catch me off guard. I made an inquiry providing pictures of the puppy and explained how well she was doing and that after all the money I had already spent I didn't see rhe need to spend additional money on a training class to teach her things she already knows. ODHS was adamant that the training was a requirement per the contract. Keep in mind the puppy has been in my home for five almost six months at this point problem free so what benefit could training provide at this point? I reviewed the contract with my attorney who identified that ODHS retains perpetual ownership of all the animals they adopt while not being legally or financially responsible for anything (i.e. vet bills, property damage, etc.). So I made the decision to return the puppy to ODHS based on principle that I wasn't going to spend any more money or waste my time on a dog that I truly don't own. When I sent the email informing ODHS of my intent to return the puppy and my reasoning the ODHs reply email was just clueless. The individual acted as if they were unaware of her surgery, recovery, expenses associated with those activities, & was referring to her by her preadoption name which infuriated me and continued to be adamant about her completing training or being in violation of the contract. So when I decided to move forward with returning her I was met with well ODHS is full right now do you mind holding on to her for a bit? Which again shocked me because had they waived the training requirement she would still be at my house. I held on to her until the end of August. Fast forward to February 2023, ODHS sends me another training email for a dog that I returned to ODHS five months earlier. So i do a quick search through their Facebook page and found that the puppy I had returned was adopted to another individual in October 2022, under her preadoption name. I notified ODHS of this discrepancy & informed them to never contact me again. October 2023, ODHS sends me another email. January 2024, ODHS emails me again with information on their monthly newsletter as well as jargon regarding donations. I would NEVER adopt or donate to ODHS ever ag

This rescue is so thorough and as soon as you enter the building you can tell their animals are well cared for. We adopted our pup right before Christmas so they were obviously very busy but they took the time to help me make the right decision and choose the right pup for our family. If I’m ever looking for another member our family or to foster I will definitely be checking them out first!

We adopted Suzie Q (Zinc)on December 9th. She is very shy and very timid, but we are loving her and giving her time and patience. She is part of the family, and we are so very happy that ODHS worked to help match us with Suzie Q(Zinc).

We contacted this organization about adopting a dog. We were told that we were pre-approved for adopting one. We scheduled a visit to meet the dog and while we liked it we wished to take more time to decide whether to adopt it. We therefore scheduled a second visit with the organization to visit the dog. We informed them we would be traveling a substantial distance for the meeting and that we were prepared to adopt the dog if the meeting went well. When we arrived for the meeting they refused to let us see the dog we were interested in saying that they decided thar the dog wasn't right for us. They completely failed to communicate that we were not even going to be able to see the dog until we arrived and even told us they were holding the dog for us. The people there seemed completely surprised by us arriving there to see the dog. The communication and organization of this group was not good. And making people travel to see a dog they are not able to see displayed an almost unbelievable amount of lack of courtesy. We wasted several hours and gas to go see a dog they had already decided that they would not let us adopt or even see. That's no way to treat people

ODHS blessed me with two of my little pups Kane and London!! The whole process was through, informative and helpful with finding my fur babies. Still to this day if I have any questions, I am able to ask on the ODHS alumni page and be greeted with helpful responses.

I volunteer at ODHS and I love it. Once you get volunteer training, you are free to come and help with anything/any time. I now help with the puppies cleaning and feeding and I love it. Who doesn’t want to love on puppies or any dog for that matter. This organization is 100% volunteer run. I encourage anyone who is looking for a dog to volunteer first, spend time with the dogs. Every dog has a story, come spend time with them and love on them!

The one star is only for the fact that they are still helping (not very well though) rescue dogs find homes. I appreciate that. However, I’ve adopted 3 dogs throughout my life (all from different rescues) and this was by far the most difficult rescue I have ever worked with. The communication was so odd, despite asking several times, they were never willing to speak to me on the phone. They would ask for things, I would send them, and somehow there were still issues. They said my application was approved and looked great/like a good fit and then cancelled the meet and greet last minute despite me providing everything they had asked for they simply “changed their mind”. It was a disaster. They were rude, which many of these reviews echo. Thankfully, I got connected to another fabulous rescue who was thorough, kind, and answered all of my questions willingly. They didn’t apply pressure to make the meet and greet work (even though it did and now we have a new happy, healthy girl at home with us!), and they were so kind and communicative. We stay in touch and I even know our pups brothers and sisters and their families. Great experience, and nothing like ODHS. I guess everything happens for a reason.

Absolutely amazing place, helped me find the dog of my dreams! With it being 100% volunteer run I was amazed with how many people stepped up to help me! I now started fostering here cause once you adopt you are approved to foster aswell and it is amazing. So excited to see how this place grows in the future :)

All stars are for the fact that I ended up with my best fur friend, Poncho. I would like to warn people that Poncho (formerly Pistachio’s) petfinder post did lie that he was “good with other dogs” which is completely the opposite of the truth. He has had aggressive reactivity towards all dogs since day 1 that I’ve had him. Also, he was skin and bones when I adopted him which I assumed was due to nervousness of being in the shelter and not eating. NOPE, he had two different intestinal parasites which he was never stool tested for while at ODHS. With him being on the brink of death looking, he should’ve received a stool test before being put up for adoption. In the end, he is living a great life and I’m forever grateful that I get to be his human.

Workers were extremely rude. If you have a kid under 12 don’t expect to adopt a dog no matter how well behaved your kid is, they discriminate against mothers with children. I guess they think dogs are more important than kids and don’t want you to have any after you adopt a small dog

Great place to adopt from. The staff and hostess are very helpful. My precious Rizzo was well taken care of by her foster.
