Listen.... this chutney... its not like other chutneys. It's SO GOOD. I go out of my way to look for this stuff. Hot peach has been a favorite for years but I just found spicy plum the other day and.... its already gone. A clear winner.

To err is human, but to apologize is truly rare. Not at Virginia Chutney. They not only produce one amazing collection of chutneys, they are also really nice! I had my first jar of Fig from a Whole Foods in Virginia and fell in love. I needed it for a recipe but had never been much of a fan of chutney in general. After getting hooked on it, I crawled up to the highest shelves and on my hands and knees looking for that last jar of the season. I paid crazy prices on that big online seller site, but the jars were often broken. This year, I was planning a trip through Virginia and the site popped up on Google maps. I had an idea! I'd go see them and buy a case! But...their hours weren't in line with my travel plans, so I ordered one of everything to be shipped. When they arrived, they were all packed safely and the right flavors, but a few were the wrong size. Within minutes of my email, they responded with profuse apologies and made it right. Now I have a few "extra" jars of the smaller size which I have pledged to give away to introduce others to this amazing product. The one problem is that I already ate one of them... In person, online, or in a store, you cannot go wrong with this chutney.

Both the peach and the plum chutneys are amazing. I just tried the peach in a grilled cheese sandwich, and it was SO good! I order from them online, and they pack their product very well. Great customer service!

I have not been to VA Chutney Co personally (yet), but do love their Spicy Plum Chutney and highly recommend it. Back in 1990 I lived in Castleton, VA which is in near Flint Hill and consider that area to be one of the prettiest parts of VA (am a Native born in Northern VA now living in the outskirts of Charlottesville, in Central Va). I recommend that area of our Country and suggest when you visit there (Sperryville, Little Washington, Skyline Drive), you make a point of checking out Va Chutney Co. and when you do pick up a Jar of their Spicy Plum Chutney and try some of their other Chutneys as well (plan to do so myself someday). If you enjoy Chutneys am sure you will not be disappointed and if you like the Mt's and the Countryside it is worth the visit and taking a chance of their food. Plus... this is a Family made Product and that to me is a added bonus...

You'll find them on Aileen Rd in Flint Hill. We live around the bend in the road from them. We moved into our place about a month ago and Clare from Virginia Chutney pulled over and introduced herself while I was out getting the mail yesterday. She welcomed me to the neighborhood and told me to stop by at the cannery anytime. We went by this afternoon, and while the place looked closed, I found Neville back in his office and told him about my encounter with Clare. He warmly welcomed us and showed us the cooking and canning operation and insisted that we take some jars of their delicious Chutney as a housewarming gift. It's wonderful to have such gracious and charming neighbors and what a tasty treat to bring back home.

Disclaimer--I have not been here, but dearly want to visit and bring a fat wallet. I did, however, try two of their chutneys and MUST spread the love of this company and their products. While visiting Vintage Ridge Vineyards, I had the pleasure of trying the spicy plum and hot peach chutneys. Their web sites have the following descriptions: Spicy Plum--Our Best Seller... a sweet, traditional southern chutney made with caramelized onions and ginger. Delicious with roast pork, Brie or cheddar. Note: I had this with Manchego cheese and thought it was a nice pairing. Hot Peach--We use Habanero peppers that give this chutney flavor and heat. Provides a kick to appetizers and is delicious with ham, chicken, shrimp and fish. Note: I had this with goat cheese and enjoyed the two together. Each 10oz jar will run you 6.95, but if you pick some jars up at Vintage Ridge (shameless plug, I know, and I don't work there!), they will run you a mere 7.50 a jar. This is a family run business (the kind I like to support) and I hope to pay them a visit so I can pick up a few jars, including the mango chutney. YUM.
