I came to this emergency room a couple weeks ago due to a bad wound on the bottom of my foot that was hurting badly and I was concerned it was infected. As I got placed in the waiting room, I saw 3 different people in handcuffs standing right at the desk I was placed next to. I was inches away from one guy who was with a police officer and he made me feel super uncomfortable. He kept staring at me in a really strange way and walking around and the police officer did nothing. Anyway, I ended up waiting 3 hours for a room despite being admitted for sepsis just two weeks before. When someone finally came to get me, I got put in a hall bed where it was really loud and there was no privacy at all. The emergency room doctor came to see me and had the worst bedside manner. I was crying in pain and he asked me in a rude way "why are you crying?". I told him I was hurting and could barely walk on my foot. He said I could have one dose of morphine but that's it and then it would just be tylenol and nothing else after that. As if I was drug seeking. I ended up needing an x-ray of my foot and when transport came to get me, they left me in the x-ray room for a good 20mins just laying there while people behind the glass were laughing and chatting. No one introduced themselves to me. I was laying right next to a screen that popped up with someone else's name, date of birth and medical record number. When the x-ray tech finally came out from behind the glass, she saw the name on the screen and told me transport brought her the wrong person. Like what? So I ended up being admitted and given intravenous antibiotics, fluids & nausea meds. I wasn't allowed anything other than tylenol for my pain throughout my stay. I would ask for something stronger and they refused. Once I was discharged, I was looking on mychart at my hospital notes and the attending doctor had written "patient has had drug seeking behavior throughout her stay". This genuinely shocked me and made me cry. I have very complex medical conditions and I clearly had every reason to be in legitimate pain. How dare they accuse me of being a drug addict. I feel like ever since this opiod crisis, they label anyone who requires anything stronger than tylenol as a drug addict and it isn't right. People have genuine pain and don't deserve to be judged or suffer due to shitty doctors who obviously have no empathy for their patients and should not be in healthcare. This is not the first time this has happened to me at this emergency room. This is the very last time I come here even if I'm dying. Thanks for nothing Inova.

I was born there, my son was born there, and I have been there for 4 surgeries. The nurses and CNA’s in the Women’s and Children’s centers are incredible. They are caring and so professional. I can’t say enough good things about this hospital.

My son was operated on at this hospital. I was personally impressed with the attention that all the staff had with my family in general. I have no complaints. Rather, I want to thank all the staff who work there. They are a great team. I remember that there was a nurse named Amanda who helped me. It helped a lot, she is a sweetheart…The adult hospital is no exception. My father was hospitalized for a few days and they treated him extremely well. That made him feel that he is a very special being again. Thank you all and thank God for putting the will to help others in all the staff. thank you

Went to the ER here (huge mistake) and ended up getting two separate bills for an X-ray and ~15 minutes of facetime with a doctor. Bill was egregious to say the least and left with no real answers of what was wrong. Called in to get answers and received none. Obviously if you need to seek immediate medical attention go but personally wouldn’t go back unless I feared I was terminally ill. Shame on you Inova.

Me and my mother arrived around 3pm to the emergency room because my mother had excruciating abdominal pain and she got taken into a room and the nurse and doctor were very rude to my mother when she was asking for pain meds to calm down her agonizing pain. We asked the nurse if she could please get us a different doctor and she didn’t do anything. She left us with the same doctor who was very rude. They gave my mother 2 doses of medication which none helped her and she asked to delay the CT scan because she was in severe pain and the doctor yelled at her saying she needs to go NOW. My mother was in excruciating pain and the doctor and nurse didn’t want to give her any medication to calm down the pain until they gave her one more dose and said to not even bother pressing the call button to ask for more. They gave her some meds which sort of helped but then the pain came back and came back worse and the nurses and doctors proceeded to ignore us and the fact we were pressing the call button many times in the span of an hour and not to one of those calls did a nurse or doctor come and help my mother. After about an hour of waiting I went to go ask a lady who wasn’t even our nurse to please call our nurse and doctor to come help my mother and all the doctor did when he came was offer tylenol. After that we ended up leaving while my mother was still in excruciating pain. This hospital has the worst patient care i’ve ever seen and heard of. We will never be returning again.

As a child of an elderly disabled person my mother's 2 weeks stay here has been hell. She was literally left sitting in her feces on the side of the bed for 8 hours. The doctors have been uncooperative and unsupportive. I was lied to by nursing staff at least twice. And now because she's been discharged to a nursing facility she's being threatened with additional cost because I want just place her anywhere for the sake of discharge. Keep in mind my mother has insurance. Like it doesn't matter at all that a person would need to view and review the facility that they're placing their parent into for care. And I'm actually concerned that leaving this review may result in some sort of patient retaliation. I don't care if I'm dying I would never use this facility again for any of my family's needs.

Wow, I’m so surprised and not in a good way at how rude and dismissive so many working at this hospital are. The medical records department, the ER staff.. it’s mind blowing. I really think it’s our culture of overworking and under compensating people. It’s sad really because this is place of employment where having a little compassion goes a long way. Do better guys. Please.

I came to Inova for an ankle injury in September. The x-ray tech took my first round of x-rays with my icepack wrap still on my ankle, so the MDs couldn't give me a diagnosis and I needed to have the x-rays taken again. After, I was told I had no injury and was sent home with an ace bandage. When I got home, the results of the second x-rays came back showing I actually had a fracture. I was diagnosed from the first set of x-rays not the second. So I had to go back the next day to receive a splint. The hospital charged me for the second set of x-rays and the subsequent visit and my health insurance wouldn't cover it because it was repeat procedures. So then I filed for financial assistance with the hospital but was denied because I couldn't prove my residency, but I was unhoused and had no way of proving my residency. I appealed it and even though I am unemployed and working odd jobs making only a few hundred dollars a month, my "self-declared income" in their system was somehow listed as $9000/month, so I was denied again. So I had to pay for a notary to witness me signing a self-declaration of income. I contacted the finance department SEVERAL times only to receive responses saying "Please contact us through the patient portal" (which I was doing) and then they'd prevent me from being able to reply. I finally sent messages to every single department I was allowed to contact in the patient portal and then finally got a response from someone saying I'd be contacted by patient services. I was never contacted by patient services to this day. Then I recently checked my account and my balance was cleared. No notification. No call. No email. The nurses and medical staff were all very accommodating and nice, but the negligence and lack of communication and professionalism on their part is egregious.
