I am very saddened by the interactions I have had with Dr. Saksena’s office over the past several months, especially having been a patient of Dr. Saksena for over 4 years now.
For the past 5 months I have been attempting to resolve a billing issue with what feels like disinterested correspondences and often without response at all from Dr. Saksena’s office. Through several calls with my insurance company I have come to figure out that the root cause of the issue was that Dr. Saksena’s office input the incorrect insurance company after I showed them my new insurance card.
Because of this, I was incorrectly charged a $50 copay for my visit, which I paid the day-of. I did not find out the wrong insurance had been used until I was charged $58 for my Pap smear because Dr. Saksena’s office had sent it to an out-of-network lab. At this point there was nothing I could do except pay the fee the lab company was requesting.
After calling Dr. Saksena’s office to make sure they updated my insurance to the correct information, I later received a bill for my appointment with Dr. Saksena for $58.55 - even though I had already incorrectly paid them $50.
I know that mistakes happen so I have been attempting to work with Dr. Saksena’s office to have this corrected; however I was told over 5 separate phone calls that the office has no control over billing. Instead they would reach out to their billing department to call me. I asked 5 times to have billing call me and never received a phone call to discuss the incorrect bill.
I have also sent 3 messages through the portal (with a copy of the receipt for the $50 I had already paid their office the day-of) asking to have the bill changed from $58.55 to $8.55. I also asked to have someone call me to acknowledge they had seen my message but I never received a response from the front desk. Instead I continue to receive billing statements for the full $58.55.
It has been 5 months and I am too tired to continue trying to resolve this without response so I have decided to pay just so this will all stop. At this point between the out-of-network lab and incorrect charge from Dr. Saksena’s office I have paid $166 out of pocket for an appointment that should have cost me only $58.55.
I have no hope of this being resolved at this point and am instead leaving this review as a cautionary tale for prospective patients. I am so saddened by the disinterest that Dr. Saksena’s office has shown this billing issue that has caused me so much stress over the past 5 months.

I am not one to write reviews but in the hopes that it will help someone avoid the experience I had today it is worth it.
I have always had bad experiences with doctors and for that reason have avoided my whole life. I have never had a physical before but everyone told me it was nothing to worry so I was hopeful it would go smoothly as it was covered by my insurance.
I was shocked to find out as I was leaving that I owed my copay. As someone who keeps a very tight budget this was very upsetting. They explained it was because the doctor had asked about my asthma and had written me a prescription for a refill.
Maybe I am partially to blame because I have never had a primary doctor and had no idea this discussion was not included with my visit. However, I don’t understand how medical field can just get away with charging you for something they did not explain. The doctor appeared to just trying to be helpful but I told her no twice that I didn’t need a new prescription. She kept asking so I felt pressured to say yes. Now I realize they were just trying to get my copay out of me.
Lesson learned. No one cares about you or is genuinely trying to help you. What seems like a casual conversation is them actually trying to find a way to get money out of you. If they would have explained to me that it was an extra cost to write a refill or talk about my asthma I would have stayed firm in my no. This is exactly why I distrust doctors and avoid going at all cost.
Moral of the story: if you think they’re being nice ask what it is going to cost you before you agree to anything.

Dr. Saksena is the best! The perfect combination of professional and friendly. Hard to find a great PCP in Northern VA...look no further!

Dr Saxena was extremely disrespectful and rude. I’ve seen her as a teenager and always appreciated that she seemed to speak with confidence and consideration of a deep understanding of medicine, and while she was times brisk and abrupt in her appointments, I never had any conditions/questions/treatments to consider. Today was the first visit back to speak regarding my hormonal imbalance diagnosis (first time discussing an actual issue). I came 15 minutes early, prepared with questions, notes, and a hopeful attitude as I was keen on receiving attention for the same doctor. Within the first 15 minutes, she cut me off and spoke about how there is no catch all solution and disputed and said to “never get vitamin based blood tests” and then immediately moved to prescription medication. It’s tough when a doctor jumps in with prescriptions before you have even explained your situation but I went along with her template of “personal medical attention”. I told her I felt uncomfortable taking strong medication as I already struggled with imbalances and didn’t want to risk any further internal issues. She talked through a new medication (which I hadn’t done any research on, unlike all the other ones which I had notes on as to optimize her time seeing me). The breaking point was when I asked a simple follow up - “how do you track negative side effects? And will this all be a measure of hydration as you mentioned liver and kidney health?”. She immediately stood up and went off on a rant beginning with “you are overthinking this”, I can’t waste more time with you there are other patients and we can’t spend hours talking through unlikely cases, I’m not a pharmacist and I don’t know the side effects. There was a lot more but I honestly am too shaken up by how she felt comfortable talking like this to a patient and don’t want to be integrity of this message to be questioned if I try and draw from emotionally charged moments. At this point, I was very upset and crying as she continued (because she did). I stressed to her experiencing this symptoms and coming to her, I am already displaced from my health and body and these questions were so meticulously asked and noted with her time in mind.
I write this review not because Shubra Saxena was a bad doctor (she prescribed me 2 pills within 15 minutes and promptly told me my time was up after a 17-minute conversation, and that’s a great doctor to stick to their time tables and prescribe!) , but because she is an abominable healthcare professional. Making personal comments and rebukes as I shared vulnerable experiences that brought me to her clinic as a patient, and an absolute disregard to caring for my health. If you are a person that asks why after your doctor rattles off chemical names and if you are a patient who has more than 2 years left to live so will therefore deal with side effects etc., I would avoid Dr Saxena. If you are in a rush for your health and want someone to check off boxes for your physical, maybe she is best. My mom and aunts see her for diagnosis and have always said she is very polite and to the point and maybe because I look younger and am 22 she felt comfortable acting that way. Regardless, as a paying adult with my own healthcare insurance and someone who takes their health very seriously, I would really recommend another doctor. No one should be in a position of vulnerability that is taken advantage of by a healthcare professional, and I truly felt that way leaving her office.

Had a negative experience with the doctor, who would not take over an existing prescription backed by a prior authorization for the insurance company.

If you want an office that lies to you then this is the place! Got labs in April. Called to get an explanation of the results since they look concerning. The nurse didn't know what she was talking about with my results so she said she'll have the doctor call me. Come three weeks later in May, I call back because I haven't received a call yet. They said that the doctor is still reviewing my results? She said the doctor will call me. Fast forward over a month later, now June. I callback and ask what is going on? They say I have to schedule an appointment to have my lab results explained to me. Unbelievable! First of all, why didn't they mention that back in May when I called the first time? Also, why didn't they call me and tell me that some time in between? And yes, I would have to pay a copay of-course! So yeah, If you want a doctor and an office that sees your blood levels in red but don't bother following up, please by all means have at it!

Was originally with Dr. Peyton until she left last year. Wasn't informed at all until I called to make an apppointment and was told to find a new PCP. Dr. Saksena then said she would keep me as a patient. Fast forward a few months later when I called to ask why my prescription still hasn't been filled even though I had called it in a week before. Note: this was the second time it has happened with Dr. Saksena. I was then told I have to get a new PCP even though I was told directly by Dr. Saksena she would keep me as a patient when I last saw her. I am beyond frustrated. Why didn't they tell me that last week when I called to get my prescription refilled? I am now out of meds and scrambling to find a new PCP. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague.

I started out visiting Dr. Peyton, who was great, but once she left I decided to stay with this practice and gave Dr Saksena a chance. I’m glad I did because she is so nice, knowledgeable, and seems to really care for her patients. During my visits she takes the time to explain things to me and takes all my history into consideration before prescribing anything. She’s great!

Dr. Shubra Saxena is our family doctor for over 10 years and she is great as far as her treatment and visits are concerned. But her office Staff are HORRIBLE, I have reported this to the Doctor at least 3 times, but no use. Their office manager called me one day and asked me to FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. With such office staff, unfortunately Dr. Saxena is loosing patients. I gave several opportunities before writing this review, but there was no response from office staff at all. Looks like they don't care. Very unfortunate for the doctor.

I have been going to this ridiculous place for several years, never had any issues up until couple of years. Dr. Peyton & Saksena were diligent with there work but the front desk staff is the incompetent, useless and lazy. I needed to submit athletic form for my daughter, the front desk staff (Christine Kearney) told it will take couple days to get it done, sent her form via email, no respond, I had to go physically to drop of the form, still No respond, called her twice she gave excuses, told her it's important and due very soon, now it has been almost three weeks and NO response. They have become very lazy, incompetent and unprofessional by far. I'm very disappointed, this used to be great facility. Its time for this place to be shutdown.

Unprofessional staff and uncomfortable visits. HIPAA rights were violated upon stepping into my patient room. i could hear all the other patient's appointments loud and clear through the vents. my urine was handled in front of me without the proper protection, it was splashing onto the desk. i felt very uncomfortable around the male nurse who made comments about my body as I laid naked in front of him, which by the way I had no idea what my exam entailed until I got there. I was not told to fast, or that any urine samples would be needed. I was not given an option for a female nurse when laying nude on the table. an overall uncomfortable experience with the office staff. Dr. Saksena was okay, she seemed like she was in a rush or on something. she spoke too quick and not in layman's terms. Just overall an unpleasant experience.

We have been patients of Dr. Saksena for many years. She is a great doctor, proactive on all shots and tests, and a great diagnostican. She saved my husband's life twice. She is also a wonderful and warm human being, and clearly cares about her patients.

Dr. Saksena is my family's primary care physician, and we could not be happier. She is knowledgeable, empathetic, kind, and down-to-earth. Her explanations are clear and thorough, and she is patient and responsive to our questions. Highly recommended.

I was a patient of Dr. Peyton's for years. This office is the one office I can get into on my own since I'm disabled and have limited ability to walk. When Dr. Peyton left the practice everything changed. The staff became very rude and unsupportive essentially demandsing that I find another Dr. despite my telling them that I can't get into any other Dr.'s office without assistance. They would not help me get back into the patient portal to see my test results and I have not received the results of my last blood work which is over 40 days past.On my last, and (now) apparently final, visit Dr. Saksena looked quickly into my records at what Dr. Peyton had last perscribed and ordered a similar medication for my Diabetes. No discussion whatsoever of the potential side effects vs. the benefits. When I recieved the medication and reviewed the information provide by the Pharmacy I noted that, combined with my other medications and conditions, that I'm at an extremely high risk for serious complications. When I called the office to ask if I could speak with the Dr. I was once again, very rudely informed that I need to find another Dr. and that the Dr. did not have the time to discuss anything with me.If there is any way that I could give this practice an negative review it would be -10 for sure. In 66 years I have never encountered such an absolutely horrendous display of rudness and lack of caring or understanding from ANY physician or physician's staff.

Rude and unresponsive front desk. Dr. Saksena is fine and has treated me well. It took 2+ months to receive the results of a blood test, with many emails, calls, and messages in the portal left with no response from the staff. Once I notified the office that I was disappointed in their lack of professionalism and would no longer be returning as a patient, they finally posted my results, but did not call or email me to apologize for their mistake. It’s a shame that the lack of professionalism and basic admin skills has caused them to lose a patient!
