Great experience in adopting a dog. All the dogs housed at the farm looked well cared for. I got the opportunity to meet Lisa, Hiedi, and Dave the day I came out to the farm to meet the dog I applied for. They were very helpful and took the time to answer all my questions. I had a great experience with the adoption process at the Humane Society of Fairfax County I would recommend them to anyone looking for a pet. They take care of all the animals there as if they were their own pets. I did not meet Noris in person but spoke with her on the phone and via email and she was also very helpful she was the first person I spoke with at HSFC. Update-I adopted another dog friend from HSFC in Oct/2022. I worked Michael and once again the experience was great!!

Unfortunate application experience
Three stars for their concern for animal welfare, minus two for fundamental misunderstanding on application.
I submitted a cat/kitten application about a week ago and got a response today. Though I appreciate their response and thorough vetting of potential adoptors for the pets' safety, there should be a QA process for application decisions or at least a basic understanding of common pet infrastructure. The reason my application was denied was stated as they will only adopt out cats who will be indoor-only, which I support. On the application, I mentioned multiple times (if I remember correctly) that I will only have indoor cats, and that my current cat is and will always be indoor-only. I fully support cats as indoor-only, both for their safety as well as their often detrimental environmental impact. I stated that I would allow them out onto a catio if I have one in the future, but not just free outdoors. A catio is an enclosed, escape-proof area for cats (often a fenced/screened in patio) to see/smell/be in the outside without them ever actually having to opportunity to escape/roam/etc. My application was denied because they didn't want a cat to have patio/porch access for it's safety (completely valid), but I don't understand what the issue with a catio would be. It's not much different than a window bar/screen, just on a much larger scale. It still confines them to the house but allows fresh air and bird watching. If their issue is with the increased potential for mosquito-borne illness or possible disease transfer from community cats, that's understandable, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

We put in an application for an available dog a month ago and still haven’t heard anything from anyone here. I’ve called several times to follow up, and can’t get a word from anyone. Sad that these animals aren’t given a chance to have a new home! If you’re thinking about adopting, save yourself the trouble and go to a real professional program like Homeward Trails.

We filled out an application in hopes of meeting and adopting Vader. We’ve tried emailing, messaging and calling and no one will reach out to us. Since you can’t call the farm, the other location just tells us that the farm gets the applications and they can’t help.
We adopted a dog here 15 years ago (straight out of college, with no fence) who passed away from old age. I have no idea why we wouldn’t be able to adopt another or why they won’t at least reach out and tell us why we can’t adopt? Unbelievable we have to try this hard to rescue a dog in need.

Couldn’t get dog food because our 15 year old dog isn’t neutered and our puppy isn’t yet either! He’s 12 months and a great Dane / mastiff. You’d think they’d overlook the neutering part especially since we just got our mastiff through liver failure and they’d give us some dog food but no…. No go. Not even a consideration. You’d think the humane society would appreciate us feeding the dogs. I will let everyone know what was said when we called for help

We wanted to adopt a kitten, but the lady never called to make the adoption, she was very rude and told everyone that no, in our application even that everything was fine. We just think that this is a form of racism, she looked at us and received us in a horrible way, she didn't even want to listen to us when we arrived, I don't know how they can have these types of older people working there, with zero empathy, not even because she talks to childrenThus the kittens will never be adopted, and they are denied a family that truly loves them. We're still waiting for the call and obviously she won't do it,Our house is big, there is no problem, we even gave all our information, and even so, when she finished, she just looked at us with a displeased face and said, I'll call him and throw away our application, I hope someone does something about it.

The HSFC Centreville farm is a wonderful place to volunteer! The staff are friendly and encouraging, and the facilities are clean and held to a high standard of care and maintenance. I highly recommend HSFC!

They are super kind and helpful. We adopted our sweet pup there and are so so happy we did. They gave us a lot of information and materials beyond What I had expected. Would definitely recommend and return if we are ever to get another dog!

My experience with the Centerville location that houses dogs and horses for adoption was perfect! If you are interested in adoption definitely go here. Michael was very nice and informative. I will be picking up my two guys on Saturday! Now can someone go adopt their mom her name is Chiquita.
