On September 7, 2024 I was able to take a few hours to drive through a portion of the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. It was a beautiful day! I checked out the Mobile Visitor Center that was parked in the parking lot of the Loft Mountain Wayside. The folks who were manning the Mobile visitor centers were great! I would definitely recommend stopping and saying hello. If you have young ones with you, ask for the “Junior Ranger” Activity Book!

I dropped by Loft Mountain Wayside for a quick lunch and noticed the menu prices were a bit steep, but I needed a bite to eat. I decided on the Wayside Dog with fries, and I have to say, it was the best hot dog I’ve ever had. The toasted and buttered bun was a perfect touch. The restaurant was clean and had a welcoming atmosphere.

I am really disappointed in the buyer and the staff here. There is very little in terms of actual camping supplies, beyond a few $100 small blankets that have apparently not sold since last season. The buyers really should be able to find a single moderately price warm option to keep in stock.
We had an extremely cold night, and one of the staff decided to buy the last warm $50 blanket to take home, instead of leaving it for someone sleeping outside.
What a total disregard of stewardship. I would be ashamed to behave so selfishly.

Smash burger was excellent. Couldn't have a blackberry shake because the shake machine was down. Employees were working hard but still getting organized and the wait times were long.

They have clean restrooms, food made to order, and snacks and soda when you're in a rush. I'll happily stop by again when I'm on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Enjoyed the wayside in 2017 and in returning, the latest visit in 2023. Think of it as rustic fast food with pleasant service.
