I had a terrible experience at Sleep Inn & Suites Chesapeake - Portsmouth. The hotel was infested with bedbugs; I noticed dead insects behind the bed, and I ended up with bites all over my arms. The towels and mattress were in poor condition, and the AC, TV, and refrigerator were all malfunctioning.
The front desk receptionist, Satya K, was extremely rude and unhelpful. When I requested a refund, he refused and even called the police on me when I wouldn’t leave without it. While in the lobby, other guest came down stating they are getting bit by bedbugs. The officer who responded was kind and tried to assist but mentioned that this hotel has frequent issues.
The overall cleanliness of the hotel was appalling, and it felt more like a shelter than a place for travelers. I travel often, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. I strongly advise against staying here. I made a complaint with the health department! This place needs to be shutdown
Rooms: DO NOT BOOK AT THIS HOTEL! THEY HAVE BEDBUGS! The AC, TV, and Refrigerator doesn’t work.
Noteworthy details: **Review for Sleep Inn & Suites Chesapeake - Portsmouth**

I booked this room, specifically because of the pool and hot tub. While visiting the Virginia Beach area..and looking at other hotels at 3 times the price..I decided it was worth the drive here..and was pleasantly surprised for the cost
I asked for a first floor room closer to the pool..and was given the perfect location. Room was clean and had a well working refrigerator and microwave. Bed was extremely comfortable..and climate control worked well so I could find the perfect temperature to suit me.
The only cons would be the lackluster breakfast offerings..only hot waffles or oatmeal. And the orange juice was extremely watered down. Not an issue as I had bought food for the room.
Room only had a shower..no tub. And water pressure was a little low.
I looked forward to a swim before checking out..and was disappointed I had to wait until 9 am for the pool to open..but it worked out...it just meant I got a later start to my day than expected. Pool temperature was nice and warm..as was the room it was housed in. There was a basic patio located off the pool area for sunbathing. Pool water was a bit cloudy..but nothing that worried me. Probably just from a busy weekend and soap from bathing suits. It didn't irritate my skin or eyes at all.
Front desk attendant was kind and pleasant..but as a choice hotel diamond member...i wasn't offered any free drinks or reminded of the prime parking reserved for such. Not a big deal for me..but if recognition is necessary for you...you may be disappointed.
Would I stay again? Absolutely! It was an overall pleasant experience..and exceeded my expectations for a one night stay in a tourist area of the country. Well worth the 20 minute drive from Virginia Beach to save $200 a night on a weekend .
Nearby activities: Close enough to Virginia Beach to be practical. Lots of available shopping close by.
Food & drinks: Nothing onsite..but plenty close by. Hotel free breakfast was very minimal. I'd skip it and just have coffee in the room next time.

I was having work done on my car and had to find a room for the night, Sleep Inn and Suites provide a amazingly comfortable bed, a clean and functional kitchen space. The bathroom was every clean and very modern, the over all experience was wonderful and was priced so low that I was surprised to see so much time and effort that was put into creating warm and inviting stay. I would highly recommend staying at Sleep Inn and Suites to anyone looking for a safe and comfortable stay, the staff was warm and inviting to me from the moment I walked in, until the moment I checked out. I don't know of anything else they could have done to make my stay a comfortable experience.
Rooms: The room was breath taking from the moment I walked through the door.

Our experience at the Sleep Inn was beyond wonderful. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and I asked for a little bit of milk and they were happy to oblige me. I jokingly/half seriously asked where I could purchase pillows like those in our room. He told me they were only for Choice hotels… I was so sad. This was the best sleep I’ve had in probably 6-8 months.
Rooms: Our room was absolutely perfect. I asked for ground floor, near the door and they were happy to oblige my request.

Receptionist was nice and helpful. Hotel overall is old and slightly smelly. Elevator stunk, carpet was spotty. Backdoor entrance had no lock. Room was ok. No water pressure. Definitely won't Sleep Inn that hotel again. Especially for the price.

Clerk not at the counter when I got there at 6pm. Just got done riding 1 1/2 hours in the rain, had to stand in the lobby soaking wet waiting to get my room, could not even use the restroom there since you need a key to get in it. Asked if I could leave my bike under the shelter to keep it out of the rain(it was out of the way) was told I had to move it into the rain. Pretty crappy attitude from the clerk right from the beginning. Later I come down looking for the driers so I could dry my clothes, ask where the laundry is, she points instead of explaining, I have to get clarification. I ask if there is a change machine down there, she says yes. I walk all the way down there, no change machine, have to walk back to get change. Dirty public areas. Shampoo in the shower totally empty. Not impressed. Will not be back.

Clean room.
Terrific glass stall shower, modern with amenities on wall, no fear of slipping, as with tub, clean.
Breakfast had all the usual foods and beverages. Area kept clean and neat.
Staff was pleasant.
Will visit again when traveling.
Recommend.
