Brandi and Jared are wonderful. Great communicators and quick service. I don’t ever get the sense they are “over-selling”. Could not ask for better service or place for my car

As a recent resident of Charlottesville, it took me a while to find a reliable auto service outfit, which I have used exclusively for about three years. I have full confidence in Jared (sorry, but I don't know his full name!). I trust him completely for honest analysis and appropriate service at an acceptable cost. I was underwhelmed by my experience at the corporate service, both the one in existence when I moved here and its new owner.

Jared at the Cherry Avenue location went out of his way to ensure the proper care of my car and even gave up his own personal jumper cables when my car battery died. The communication is fantastic and I wholeheartedly trust that he is doing what is best for me and my vehicle when I bring my car to him!

Great service and quickly helped us fix an emergency situation we had right before they closed for the weekend. Highly recommend!

If you are looking at reviews before coming here - note how many issues people have with their state inspections being performed at this location. I certainly wish I had. Failed my car due to "rotors not making contact with pads". Quoted me $2115 for the repair. Took my car to a trusted mechanic and was told everything looked in order and if the rotors was not making contact with the pads - like they indicated my car would have thrown a code and alerted me. This place is a scam and tries to play on peoples ignorance with car knowledge. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

We picked up a major bolt in our tire. Found University on Cherry street as closest tire shop. Took it there, and while we were havin’ lunch, at a place they directed us to, got right on it. Fixed the tire at a reasonable price. I feel they could have, since we were our of towners, said” Can’t be fixed, need a new tire, maybe two, so they match,” but gave us good honest service. Thanks folks, and your recommendation for lunch was great, too.

I received great service from the team, and shared was especially helpful! My battery was dead and my 2013 CRV had to be towed to this shop. They replaced it within a few hours. When I asked about the services performed and for details on my battery warranty, they gave an explanation of both.
This was the first time I had to have service on my car and as a young woman I was a bit nervous to be overcharged. They gave me a fair price and were super friendly. I’d definitely recommend this shop!

Tried to tell me my lug nuts wouldn’t tighten with the air gun and they didn’t have a 4way at a tire shop.. stated “they are stripped and you need to have them redrilled they sheared off” left my 4way at home and the lug tool or I would have done it myself , needless to say my lug nuts are tight now , not sure if he was incompetent on how to use a air gun but I mean really guys? Also the front desk lady acted like it was a issue that I asked if someone could look at my tire if they had the time .. at a tire shop ??♂️ def won’t be returning at all for anything!
Update on your review.. no he didn’t try but one “air” gun.. how could he see if there was damage if the air gun didn’t take it off or put it on? But clearly was able to put them on myself. As I stated they were lose needed tightening.. Make it make sense. Also I stated your “supervisor” acted like she had an issue not that she didn’t get someone. Comprehending plays a big part here when you respond.

While in Charlottesville for medical reasons our alternator died on the car. The only good thing I can say is they were able to work us in almost immediately. They refused to use outside parts (we had to use ones supplied by them) which ended up costing us approximately $150 more for a REMANUFACTURED alternator than what a brand new one would have cost at Autozone. They also charged us almost $26 for a single battery terminal saying it was needed (not a cable) which could be bought in a 2 pk at autozone for $11 and was not notified previous to them doing this. Granted it was corroded but nothing a bit of cleaning wouldn't have fixed. Labor was $130 an hour and was told I probably ought to consider replacing the battery which is only about a year old and perfectly fine. To be honest, I feel like we was a bit taken advantage of because of the situation we were in and they were within walking distance of UVA hospital. Like I said, they WERE able to get us in with very short notice so that does count for something.

I took my Tesla there for a tire puncture repair. They told me that since Telsa tires have a foam lining, they couldn't do anything to fix it, and told me I need 4 new tires (!) instead. I said it was 2wd car, so then they said 2 new tires ($500+). I did a quick internet search and discovered that yes, some tires have a foam lining, but it is not obstacle to repair and "any" tire shop can fix them. I took the car to Settle and they patched & balanced it for $35; they told me they patched foam lined tires all the time. Either University Tire is incompetent (doesn't know how to fix a tire) or deceptive (lied about their competence to sell me new tires).[edit] I see a reply from the business, maybe now they will fix these tires (which are used on many cars other than Teslas). However, I won't soon forget how the employee rolled his eyes and smirked when I said I was taking the car somewhere that could repair the tire. I suggest also educating this employee on how to treat people with respect. I have brought many cars to University Tire over the years, but I won't be going back.

Students be Warned these guys are crooks, plain and simple. Guy tried to lie to me when I did a state inspection, told me the "suggested" column was required and that he absolutely HAD to do $1800 of work on my van to pass inspection. Took it to API and was driving it that day with only a bulb replacement. I guess they figured I didn't know any better. Ask a local, they do NOT come here!!! I've heard similar stories from many people.
